Judge orders New Miami, Ohio city to pay back $3 million in traffic camera tickets

Judge orders New Miami, Ohio city to pay back $3 million in traffic camera tickets

In NJ if you don't pay they suspend your registration and may or may not tell you. Also if you fight the ticket in court you get points imposed on your license which affects your insurance premiums. I believe the legal term for this is extortion.

Extortion it is. The ticket i get in the mail says in bold letters: Failure to pay fine will not effect your driver's license, insuramce, or credit. The camera company also owns the collection agency that calls/writes to collect. TN deemed it unenforceable without a real officer stopping you and writing a ticket. People still pay them. I guess its mostly older people and out of town/state people.

I love that. We just throw our tickets in the trash(TN). I dont know why they even have the cameras up any more.

Failing to come to a complete stop is running the red light.

I do it occasionally, but I wouldn't bitch about being caught breaking the law.

General Motors workers to get $11,750 profit-sharing checks

General Motors workers to get $11,750 profit-sharing checks

The company's UAW-represented workers will get profit-sharing checks of $11,750 on Feb. 23

this is because their workers are still unionized. good for them. profit sharing agreements used to be pretty normal before we killed labor unions.

But they did pay it back, with interest, well ahead of schedule. I grew up in a Ford family and even I knew that.

the industry as a whole only paid back 88.8%, but it you read the timeline, GM repaid the full amount it borrowed.

So this is nothing new then. Just the usual yearly profit-sharing checks but it's clearly be spammed to suggest this is somehow tied to something the Trump administration has done IE: "Tax cuts"

"General Motors made $12.8 billion in pretax profits in 2017 while reporting a net income loss for the year. The company's UAW-represented workers will get profit-sharing checks of $11,750 on Feb. 23.

The figure equaled what the Detroit automaker earned in 2016 and came as the automaker changed its global footprint by completing the sales of its Opel and Vauxhall brands and leaving south and east Africa and India."

Down 500 within minutes of opening. Geez

Yeah but you gotta start out a billionaire for that to happen.

Shortly after 10am EST and all major indexes are green. How much longer is Reddit going to panic for?

While panic is uncalled for, I think we should withhold judgement until the closing bell.

A "gently used" SpaceX rocket is for sale on Craigslist.

How cool would it be to have that thing.

Gently used orbital rocket in good condition. Fully loaded with onboard flight computer, launch and landing hardware. Take off and land anywhere! 9X Merlin engines each capable of producing 200k lb.ft of thrust. Just fuel it up and it's ready to go. Says Falcon 9 on the body, slight burnt paint can be buffed out.

Must bring own tug boat, no shipping. Asking $9,900,000 or best offer. Do not lowball, this is an orbital capable autonomous rocket. You will not find another one like it.

Serious buyers only.

Before I make an offer on this let me call a buddy of mine that knows about used SpaceX rockets

"take off and land anywhere" is the only part I believe. Oh you will take off, and land...anywhere.

North Korea: "Wait, I know what we can use this for...."

U.S.: "Well shit."

Kern County judge rules against same-sex couple suing Tastries Bakery

Kern County judge rules against same-sex couple suing Tastries Bakery

The court document also stated that Miller provided the couple with an alternative means to obtain a cake by going to another establishment. The document shows Miller had entered into an agreement with a competitor to refer same-sex couples to them instead.

This is a pretty big deal, actually.

If they are giving the couple an alternative which grants them the same product through a competitor, they can't argue they are being denied service because service is being rendered through an alternate establishment.

The denial of service is what is unconstitutional, not the transferring of service. That's a legal act.

How many therapists and medical professionals refer a patient due to a conflict of interest? This is basically that but under a religious context.

which grants them the same product through a competitor

It certainly hurts the argument that bakers are artists and forcing them to bake cakes for gay weddings infringes on their artistic freedoms. If tre cake is a work of art then you can'tget the same product from a competitor.

if the baker is an artist, shouldn't they be allowed to sell their art to whomever they want?

For example, if Jay Z refuses to do a concert for the KKK, is that legal?

Not really, in law you make either-or arguments all the time. For example:

"Baking is art, we offer XYZ evidence to support this, and therefore my client cannot be compelled to create art. However, if you agree with our opponents that baking is not art, then we would like you to notice that our client referred them to another baker, which means that no harm was done since they could get a product that is legally the same (given that you are holding that baking is not art).

Edit: And I belatedly (4 hours) realize that I replied one down from where I meant to be, reposting above.

From oil to solar: Saudi Arabia plots a shift to renewables.

I mean, you have a country that's basically one big desert... why wouldn't you turn it into a solar powerhouse?

Because the sand is grainy and it gets everywhere.

My grandfather rode a camel, my father rode a camel, I drive a Mercedes, my son drives a Land Rover, his son will drive a Land Rover, but his son will ride a rechargeable camel'.

Of coarse.

To zero?! To zero?! Awesome.

Virginia has a chronic heroin problem and states with legalized pot have seen reductions in heroin use. I wonder if that information has had some influence on this unanimous decision.

In the south even. So exciting.

I don't even smoke pot, I just appreciate the degree to which this'll fuck up Jeffy Sessions week.

Medical marijuana?

I don't blame her, I would try my damnedest to stay anonymous if I won a half a billion dollars

Reminds me of this lengthy post about what happens when you win the lottery.

asinine law. no one has any business knowing how much money you have, except maybe the IRS and state tax collectors.

Pretty sure most of Reddit has that comment saved for if/when they win.

He wouldn’t have come back to the United States if there weren’t jobs for him. I cannot wait for the day we finally deal with the real issue; shit head business owners who hire illegal immigrants. I know business owners are practically a protected class, but they are the ones causing these problems. Illegal immigrants should have no chance to make a living in the United States. No wall needed, cut off the demand and the supply will dwindle.

My favorite example of that was Mark Zuckerberg criticizing the wall while...

http://www.newsweek.com/facebook-mark-zuckerberg-wall-hawaii-protest-549068

He was walling in his 600 acre estate in Hawaii.

"There are 14 parcels of land within Zuckerberg’s estate that he does not own and the wall cuts off access to one of them. Locals complain the wall also blocks views of the ocean.

Zuckerberg filed a series of lawsuits over land ownership on Kauai in an attempt to take control of the parcels, but he is currently “reconsidering” the decision.:

They have no shame, and they will tell you what to do while they do the exact opposite.

I hope he runs for President, just to expose him.

A wall won’t work..... said by the people living in houses surrounded be 10 foot high walls

Well that's just awful

China: Cheap American grain is hurting our farmers - Feb. 5, 2018

Really China? You wrote the book on currency manipulation and flooding markets with below cost goods to drive out competition.

Nah. China just doesn't have that much safe/"usable" farmland due to numerous environmental problems that they need to resolve. They are just now understanding the importance of a strong EPA and BLM and put in a ton of new controls but it will take time before the land is usable again.

The nation of 1.3 billion accounts for almost a fifth of the world’s population, yet boasts just 7% of arable land. Moderate to severe soil degradation affects more than 40% of the country, exacerbated by overuse of fertilizer, intensive grazing and the reliance on biomass for rural energy. While China’s belching factories hog the headlines, experts say agriculture rather than industry exerts the biggest toll on the environment. http://time.com/4455462/china-agriculture-food-security/

Their entire market is an illusion. They are an absolute debt bomb. When the next recession happens I fully expect it to come out of China's completely illusory and manipulated market.

At least it's not poisoning your babies and pets like Chinese products.
