Nice! I'm sure he'll find the Nokia a huge upgrade! 👌👍😁

What’s wrong with having a pink phone as a man?

Finally upgraded from my 7. Collection complete for now :)

Finally upgraded from my 7. Collection complete for now :)

finally, as if it was a 4s or something :P the 7 is still an awesome device, not that old too

Why did u buy that shit now new stuff is being announced on the 5th of September

"Finally"? I just replaced the battery in my iPhone 6S for €29. My phone is now more than 1000 days old according to Coconutbattery and it is still BLAZING fast. I intend to keep it as long as it's realistically usable. Say NO to overconsumption!

Asking the real question

Old iPhones framed

Old iPhones framed

So I‘ve had some old iPhones and baught some other ones from ebay. I opened them, cleaned them and framed them. There‘s an iPhone classic on the bottom left. Right next to it, is an iPhone 3GS. In the upper left corner, there is an iPhone 4 and right next to it the case of the phone. Allways thought, that was a big milestone for Apple - a glass design and that nice aluminium finish. And on the right there is an iPhone 5. what do you think? Looks cool?!? I would like to add an Apple Watch, but even broken ones are quite expensive on ebay.

Did you ever stop to wonder why?

I had the clear back for my 4s. So it always looked like the one you have framed. Man was it cool looking, I wish it was still an easy mod.

I love it! I had to eBay the classic iPhone back in 2007 as you couldn’t get it in Canada. Still have it, although it’s been beaten and bruised after I gave it to my brother for a few months.

Here's the story of how Steve Jobs brilliantly "faked" the first iPhone presentation at Macworld 2007 — using multiple phones and a custom portable cell tower from AT&T!

Here's the story of how Steve Jobs brilliantly "faked" the first iPhone presentation at Macworld ...

As a developer I can say that mocking and faking application behavior is a very common practice, as long as you do not fake impossible tasks you’ll be all right.

Well, if you look closely, until today they have always at least 5 phones ready to display new features

Jobs was the valleys greatest showman ever

Exactly. We called these "Prototypes". Sometimes they used existing features in new ways, in which case the prototypes were usually mini-working versions, but more often you were describing a feature that doesn't exist, yet, so you generate code that "pretends" it did just to demonstrate how the real product would work, should it get the proper funding.

I can see how this can immediately pivot to "fraud", but it's one of those things that isn't until it is. That is, it's all about intent - if you knew a feature couldn't/wouldn't be developed but you continued to advertise it - you're a fraud! But if you advertise a feature that will work by the time you sell it, but might not work now - I see that as prototyping.

Edit: I felt the need to elaborate a bit. We don't have an Internet connection to Mars, yet. If we did, there would be times when it takes more than an hour for our signal to reach them, then the same time for them to respond to us. Right now, we can only "demo" this feature - using software to build in the long delays we will expect to face when we actually put "Internet" on Mars. Until then, we can fake it ("prototype" it) via software.

Apple’s many shades of Space Gray

50 shades of gray?

I like the dark space grey

Are you this fun at parties?

I did not like the first generation, light color, Space Gray. I like the new Space Gray though. It is more of a charcoal.

Notch

Notch

I don't understand why phone manufacturers want to put a notch on their phones.

It made sense for the iPhone X because the there was no bottom bezel, but other OEMs have just slapped a chin on the bottom. Personally I don’t mind the notch but when there’s a big chin with it it looks ugly. OnePlus did a decent job, but take something like the Pixel 3 XL.. it just looks horrendous.

Thank goodness Samsung didn't copy the ugly notch!

The cartoon just shows that Samsung just doesn't blindly copy stupid and ugly designs. Still making great phones with no notch and keeping the convenient headphone jack!

But props to Samsung for atleast trying an original approach

Obscura 2 - A Gift from Apple

Obscura 2 - A Gift from Apple

Hi /sub/iphone, I make a camera app called Obscura. I'm currently running a promotion with Apple, and the app is free for a limited time.

It's aimed at pros and photography enthusiasts, so I'm sure it's relevant to anyone posting here. It has a intuitive interface and a bunch of great features, such as: raw capture, focus peaking, live filters and a metadata viewer.

If you're interested, check it out in the Apple retail app (*not* the App Store), and scroll to the bottom of the Discover tab.

(download it here: https://itunes.apple.com/ie/app/apple-store/id375380948?mt=8)

The promo isn't available in all regions, but it is in all the major ones.

(apologies for this, it's totally outside my control, and I would love if the promo was available worldwide)

And if you enjoy using Obscura, please consider purchasing filters, leaving a review, or sharing photos with #ObscuraCamera to help support us!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

May I ask if you still earn money through the promotion from Apple?

Not directly, only if people buy in-app-purchases. It's really just Apple giving away promo codes, with my permission

Mr. Pessimistic here, even though I love the app, especially the manual focus part, I’ve noticed that it crashes quite a bit with the format set to RAW. I don’t know what’s up with that… just thought I’d let you know.

Big update on the Apollo fundraiser for the kitties and dogs: Apollo made over $5,000 yesterday and as promised it all went to those beautiful kitties and puppies and you bet I got pics inside you guys

Big update on the Apollo fundraiser for the kitties and dogs: Apollo made over $5,000 yesterday and as promised it all went to those beautiful kitties and puppies and you bet I got pics inside you guysYeah that was one hell of a way to wake up.

Long story short yesterday I made a post here saying I'll donate all the proceeds from my Apollo Reddit client for the day to our local SPCA animal shelter (an awesome Canadian non-profit, no-kill shelter) because they said they were really low on supplies and well cats and dogs are awesome and need our help. I wanted to make a donation but I figured the awesome Apple/Reddit community might want to get in on that and give them something for it in the process so I made a post about it and sweet mayonnaise did you guys ever.

$5,087.23 is the total amount raised. Yeah seriously I'm not joking, I wanted to raise like a few hundred bucks but 5 freaking grand is just absurdly beyond what I thought. All the amounts below are in Canadian dollars at today's exchange rate because most things came in in US dollars and it's a Canadian charity.

Breakdown

$4,038.55 in proceeds from Apollo sales.
$500 ($653.16 CAD) approximately from a ton of direct donations, hard to keep track but going off of a general tally from the comments and PMs I received I can honestly say I think that's undershooting the amount donated directly if anything
$50 worth of bitcoin donated ($65.31 CAD)
$25 from a kind friend
Someone awesomely gave me Reddit gold so I'll donate that too ($5.21 CAD)

That brings the total to approximately $4,787.23 but I really wanted that over $5,000 (plus there's some still some people commenting here and there about donating through Apollo even though the day's over and I want their money to count) I'll throw in another $300 of my own for a clean total of $5,087.23.

Proof

As I stated around $500 ($653.16 CAD) of that total was donated directly to the charity (not through Apollo) from some amazing people so they already have those funds awesomely, so the amount remaining is $5,087.23 - $653.16 which is $4,434.07.

I wanted to try to figure out the best way to donate that, so I posted asking and then called their fundraising line to make sure and they said it would be best to donate it directly, which makes a lot of sense.

Of course it would have been cool to throw open the doors of the shelter with $5,000 worth of pet food and music playing but the goal is the animals (and not to be flashy) and fact is they can do a lot more with that money directly than through one of us buying stuff (bulk supply discounts, they can put it exactly where needed, etc.) so I donated it directly per their advice and now they can do the best possible things with it to help out the kitties and puppies and turtles and rabbits and whatnot of Nova Scotia. :)

A bunch of people were curious to see pics of the animals in need so we stopped over on my girlfriend's lunch break and took some pics for y'all. It's the same shelter we got both of our cute fuzzballs from too.

Here's an album of a bunch of the pics (it was really hot out so I couldn't take any of the dogs out for a walk to take some pics they're really cute and I took a pic of the adoption board):

Thank You

Seriously everyone thank you so much. It honestly blew me away, I was hoping for a small something but I really think this is going to make a massive difference to a lot of needy animals, y'all are the best. And if anyone missed the chance yesterday and still want to you can donate directly to them here: https://46189.thankyou4caring.org/sslpage.aspx?pid=298 Or even just to your local shelter, they surely need the help as well! My two little furballs thank you too.

Definitely won't be the last time I do this with Apollo, I'll try to do something like this again someday since it went so well. :D Anyway, back to work (and obligatory if you wanna check out a cool Reddit app check out Apollo!)

If you have any questions or anything too I'm happy to answer.

Congrats and thank you for doing that! Thankfully my GF didn’t see this or else we would probably have no money in the bank account. Haha

I dunno sometimes they make cute little noises like "mewwww" so they have a voice just not a very intelligible one. :P

Thank you for being the voice for the voiceless!

Hahaha, right? There's something about animals that just really gets ya.

Girlfriend completely surprised me with an iPhone X for our anniversary! I thought she got me new backpack :)

That's a heck of a girlfriend.

I love the backpack too

Time to marry her

No because she knew to get him an iphone instead of a bloated Android device.
