edit 1: Imo it was a bad PR move to announce a team's roster and then replacing 2/5 players within 5 days. Also this hurts Aphromoo and Pobelter since they both wanted to play on Curse and now have less than a day to find a team if they want to potentially play in the LCS. Not to mention this directly effects GGLA in which they have to find a new Top Laner 1 day before roster locks for amateur teams.

edit 2: Pobelter's thought on the situation. (not too pleased)

Going to answer some questions regarding the new roster for Team Curse. As many of you know we made a necessary announcement regarding our roster heading into the NACL Tournament (http://lol.gamepedia.com/Articles:North_American_Challenger_League_announces_35K_Challenger_Season). Curse is still in the process of trying out candidates for the finalized roster for Season 4. Our team has to not only be able to qualify but be a serious contender throughout the season. I've used the time since our initial roster decisions to carefully monitor the players individual behavior, teamwork, mechanics and synergy to find the very best fit before signing contracts with either of these players. I personally watched all tournament matches, listened into scrims and participated in all analyst training with the team and concluded that there were better alternatives to both Aphromoo and Pobelter continuing to play for the main roster. I of course appreciate both of them for trying out and expressing interest for playing for Curse.

Edit 4: Someone asked whether or not curse approached Quas with GGLA's permission.

Nyjacky did not leak anything during this whole ordeal. This is the biggest surprise.

I don't think either Pobelter or Aphro were ever informed that their spot would be on a trial basis. They seem to be led to believe they were on the team.

It doesn't make sense to put them on the official roster on the website if you are just "trying" them out.

Wadafa?

It would be really funny if Curse doesnt qualify after all this shadiness. Pobelter deserved to know about this way earlier. Funnily enough he was told after they decided to go wth quas. No respect given by them and ive lost complete respect for Curse.

Instead of apologizing, Liquid gave a fake ass apology claiming they were tryouts. You dont update your website and tweet it if they were tryouts.

I have never wanted a team to lose and not qualify until now. Go Coast/Quantic/Complexity and whoever else they face. I really hope they dont qualify.

Also doing something like this 1 day before roster closing deadline?

This was really dick-move by curse.

oooooooooo oooooooooo ooooooooooo

And then the announcement that all of Curse Academy is kicked to be replaced by Voy, Quas, IWD, Zekent and Cop.

mide mis

Pobelter sounds so sad. Can anyone confirm if it's actually his birthday today? Aphro wished him happy birthday on twitter, but I don't know if it was legit.

Good work compiling all of this into a single thread.

I think Curse looks weak now. Voy looks shaken, Cop was demoralised by being briefly demoted, Quas has limited pro experience and a weird pool and a new team to adjust to, and IWD has never impressed with mentality - he nearly retired after Crs A lost a tourney, and his skill is hardly comparable to any tried pro jungler after his bans.

concluded that there were better alternatives to both Aphromoo and Pobelter continuing to play for the main roster.

This is what I really don't get, why would Liquid even pick them up and wait until the last day before roster lock to be like "Oh, well we have better players" WHEN THEY HAD COP THE ENTIRE TIME.

Because Liquid is not qualified to make nor good at making these decisions.

I can already see it: Curse doesn't make it, LolPro doesn't make it - Curse Academy qualifies.

I'm not going to lie, I wouldn't be sad at all if all 3 Curse teams failed to qualify for anything.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

"Has Edward moved in yet?"

"f*ck you jackie"

"whoops"

And using magic outside of Hogwarts

This bot's the best

So much this. If Liquid didn't want him on the team he should have kicked him at least a week ago so Pobelter could find another team. He intentionlly kept him on the team so that he couldn't find another team because he probably saw him as a huge threat.

Fuck Curse

That sounded like a pretty douche-bag move by Curse :/

https://twitter.com/imPobelter/status/388361087625601024

I think so ;-;

I love imagining voy, pobelter and aphromoo forming their own team and just wrecking curse.

the roster changes are too confusing for him to understand

It's "esports" which wants to be like real-sports. Unless you've signed a contract for more than that with a "no buyout clause" or a "no trade clause" or a "no drop clause", everything for every team is a trial basis.

Rosters change. Frequently. LoL has no roster-lock / trade-deadline / free-agency rules. Welcome to being "a real sport", where players get treated like commodities and owners get to do what they want.

So, they move Cop out, then kick Aphromo saying "there were better alternatives"? Makes sense.

Having said this, RHUX FOREVER SUB

I agree with you. Curse is just a good old fashioned disorganized shitshow. They aren't malicious they just have shitty management.

fkn nyjacky

fkn curse

Yeah they're gonna crush Cruse!

I want Curse Academy so Only Jaximus and Fabby get in

EDIT: I DIDN'T KNOW JAXIMUS WAS TOXIC I TAKE IT BACK

Fabby though pls

Go team Esurc!

I skipped straight to 3:22:30.

I've never seen Voyboy like this. He looks so... distraught I guess is the proper word here. His cheeks/eyes are slightly red, he's twitching and moving around a lot, almost looks like he's on the verge of tears. When he says "Steve is talking" the way he looks over is sort of like a "wtf do you want?" look.

Curse is not looking like they're in a good spot right now, at least emotionally. League is a mental game, if you're head isn't completely in it and focused you're not going to perform. I don't think it's looking good for them for s4 if stuff like this keeps up. Steve is doing more harm than good.

After watching their matches with pobelter/aphro, I find that hard to believe. The team synergy, and their win rate, was pretty amazing.

I can understand being concerned about pobelter going to school, but fucking Aphro like that is low. I'm done with curse.

There are potential reasons for not keeping a good player if the threat theory is true

If he is disliked

Doesn't seem to mesh with the team

Demands are not met such as salaries

I heard voyboy was pissed about this. Is there a video or thread about this? I'm curious

I was so sad when I heard this news, so I drew a picture instead.

I think CRS was panicking from their performances in the MCL and scrims/ranked 5s. They weren't synergized immidiately and with the roster lock approaching they pulled the trigger quickly to try to improve the team.

I am a huge fan of Pobelter and aphromoo, but I feel like their new roster is actually stronger.

Voy's top lane pool is really bad right now, and honestly his playstyle is much more suited for mid now a days. He will play much better than he has recently and will be a slight step down from Pobelter.

Quas has shown really strong mechanics and a very new top playstyle since joining ggLA. I love ggLA and thought they had a good chance to make it into the LCS if their jungler improved, and a lot of that stemmed from Quas's carrying of the team. Quas is a bit of a wild card right now but I believe his ceiling is much higher than Voyboy's for top.

Cop has always been a steady player and improved a ton during Summer split. I think he is a much stronger player than Aphro overall even though Aphro has the "potential" to be better. When you take risks and hope two other players break out you need that steady performer on the team to always rely on.

Honestly though, it seems there were HUGE problems with communication between the players and management here. The players seem to feel like they were blindsided and are lashing out against CRS. I also think CRS did make a bad decision changing the roster just because of how negatively it's going to affect their image. The previous roster wasn't weak by any means, and even if they improved it, they could have done it in a much better way than they have.

We do need to wait for some things to be cleared up. Hopefully we'll get an official statement for the reasons of the change, right now Liquid is just running damage control for the negative fallout but once things quiet down we might see the truth come out.

TL;DR Crs roster actually improved, but at what cost? Lets wait for official announcements before jumping to conclusions though.

The problem isn't the changes it's how the went about doing them, they made official roster changes and then went back on it some days later, one day before the roster lock for amateur teams trying to get into LCS, I like curse but it's hard to look past how they're handling this situation.

So, Nyjacky, Edward, Aphromoo, pobelter, ggLA and the rest of the lolpro roster all seem to come out losing of this, it could have all been avoided. (I know everyone wasn't necessarily harmed by curses decisions but that's how it looks like)

Anyway, quas is a beast, looking forward to seeing how well the new curse plays.

And to add insult to injury, a day before Pobelter's birthday. Happy birthday.

I just woke up but so far anything related to Curse has fairly negative comments on it. Curse utterly fucked their PR last night.

What are you talking about, Aphro was actually the nicest to PL as far as i remember. And im not completely sure but i remember PL calling Aphro a good guy when he was talking about the whole v8 thing

fkn life

They kicked him because he didnt want to give up on his education.

Liquid knew that beforehand and he still took him into curse, then at the last moment he left him with the choice of either choosing between curse or school, trying to force him because liquid knew that it's almost impossible to find a team at the last second.

A heroic move of Pobelter to continue school though! Huge Respect for him!

I guess it really was...Curse or Die

Fuck curse

Curse organisation is so terrible I hope they don't qualify for lcs.

Nothing in any published LCS rules have any limitations on the players on a team. Unless there are "super sekrit" rules that only players and managers get to see, teams have full authority to remove as many players as they want and to replace them with as many other players. A decent example of this is how big a roster change NiP went through during the Summer Split.

Not really disorganized, more like shitty morals with no respect for players while treating them like chess pieces. The fact that they sniped one of the strongest players on one of the strongest teams that could knock out them out of the LCS the day before roster locks is a pretty huge move.

I don't really see this as a "Pobelter is a threat" but more of, "GGLA is a definite LCS material team that could pretty realistically place in the top 4 of NA LCS if they continued playing like they have been, let's throw a monkey wrench into that well-oiled machine".

I would be extremely surprised if this wasn't purely intentional and not just an afterthought. Their biggest mistake was announcing their roster changes prior to this shitshow. The fact that Steve is trying to pass that off as "tryouts" is when the shit hit the fan is PR 101. Their argument regarding Pobelter's school making it difficult is pretty shady considering the fact that he's been with the Curse organization for a long time so it isn't like it is a recent concern. They knew what they were buying.

After all this CRS sh*t, honestly who would wanna join them? I mean CRS aren't really looking to impressing atm with all these roster swaps..

LCS Fabby pls

fkn league

To put it lightly

Any respect i had left for Crs is gone now, i understand the need for change and Saint´s choose to step down. But what i don´t understand is why announce any names before you sure, they are the ones who you are looking for and they fill the terms you want.

As i see it some one in Crs made a to haste dissection about the new team, if it was my team i would have wait till the last monument say something about it. Not go out make a big announcement about it , and then with in days make two people leave. More so just before a big important tournament

If curse made the lcs Pobelter would have done what daydreamin did, and just get off of school and practice from 1-10 which is regular lcs schedules for scrims. The thing is curse is shady and just wanted quas. Also Pobelter lives in the fullerton area, which is about an hour or less to lcs studio. There was no problem with pobelter and school and lcs. He was still going to scrim and replay all the hours in the spring split, and liquid even agreed to it with him. Basically liquid is a dbag and even voy was pissed when he found out about the drops, since when he was asked he said he wanted the team to stay.

so your logic is

curse had a really solid player, a "huge threat" but instead of just ...keeping him... since they HAD HIM IN THEIR ROSTER. they remove him just so no one else can have him?

why not.. just keep him?

because it has NOTHING to do with trying to fuck the other teams over. Its been about a week. Liquid has had time to see how the team meshes and how the players are performing, and he decided pob isn't the best choice. I think this was a STUPID decision but I don't think it relates to trying to fuck over pob or any other amateur teams.

on a different note.... clg pobelt? IMAGINE THE POTENTIAL

fkn NA

The way liquid handled this PR disaster with some scripted BS is really making curse seem like a horrible organization.

Pobelter, himself, admitted on stream that he was unwilling to move into the curse house. He thought it was "stupid" and gambit gaming season 2 didn't move in, so he shouldn't have to. That right there is a perfectly valid reason for curse wanting to drop him from roster.

Instead they don't say anything, pick up Quas. And now there's all sorts of speculation, none of it good for curse.

This should be higher. If it's true that the decision was made a long time ago, it would have been the right move to let the players know (ALL the players, not just Aprho/Pobelter) so that the affected players can find a new team and other affected teams (GGLA) can respond without having to scramble.

What did it say? o.O

I strongly doubt Liquid did that all intentionally because he was "afraid" of Pobelter's power..smh

Sad as fuck that he gets kicked literally one day before his birthday.

"Better players", according to his explanation in the original post, can also mean better preparation, better attitude, better synergy etc. Not necessarily better strictly skill wise.

lol Yea I'd looooooooove to see the community here finally attack Curse on something besides Saint's Smites. If their Academy team qualifies then they need to disband their whole team and just bring in a Korean Team

You know why? They snapped up the best potential then a day before transfer window closes they release them giving them fuck all time to find a team.

Dirty tactics.

Game Cribs is missing a huge opportunity with all this drama.

Be interesting to see them introduce rules like football where you cannot talk to another teams players without permission of the organisation they are contracted too so we could avoid situations like the Quas one.

What. Doublelift and CLG said they loved Aphromoo on the team and when transferring Chauster to support, offered him top lane because they still wanted him on the team.

how much rp is that?

they'll probably just buy out a team that qualifies in that case

AND, the kicker - the better alternative is Cop, the guy he replaced in the first place.

LOL.

Voyboy

gatekeeper to worlds

I feel so bad for Pobelter. He was on the original roster back in summer of 2011, got shit because he wouldn't move with them because he was so young then, but still supported the team and probably was fighting to start throughout his time with them. And then he gets picked back up again by his first team that HE (and the other 6) founded, essentially, hand-picked by a guy HE FOUNDED THE TEAM WITH (Liquid), and dropped quickly and swiftly BY THE SAME GUY.

Like. What. The. Fuck.

The problem is that i highly doubt we will ever see that day that there is a system in place like the NFLPA.

Without the NFLPA, players would have no choice but to accept terrible contracts that benefit the team. The association is what fights for their rights and is the reason players even earn guaranteed money at all.

If i were in a similar position where i was offered a spot on a team, i would ask for a contract to sign. But if they tell me 'sorry but right now we dont have 1' or whatever, and i saw other popular players already on the team, with only 1 week left to join a team, and a recognizable name like 'Curse', i would probably end up joining anyway. Cuz there is really nothing else i could do.

Feel bad for Aphro and Pob, but they're really just victims of the system. Curse as an organization will always look out for its best interests, which is understandable.

edit: just wanna add that yeah i think it was a douchey thing to do, but its a business. People get fired a few years before they can earn their pension all the time. Just cuz thats what big businesses do. Sucks.

Voyboy looks bummed and acknowledges whats going on, sad beatles song playing.

Cop walks by stream and Voy looks annoyed that all this is going on the room while he's still str...

Music kinda lined up... weird situation he was stuck in.

Fabby in LCS...one can dream

Esruc*

This. PL said that Aphro was the only person that wasn't a dick to him, Aphro just kind of had to go along with it since he was so young at that time and didn't really have anything to say.

Now say "Curse Quas" ten times fast.

NIP isn't any better in this regard....

Fuckin Cruse is full of scumbags, hope they get what's comin to 'em.
