Trump’s Osprey escort over NYC is bad ass! I need a high res of this

There used to be a time, not that long ago, when an Osprey would fly over a Marine base Marines would jokingly run and hide inside because of the accidents that happened during the testing of the aircraft. It’s good to see them get past all that. Those things are pretty spectacular compared to a helicopter for insertions and extractions. It’s twice as fast as a Sea Knight.

The front fell off.

To flex on non-president ni🅱️🅱️as.

They fixed the problems with it. It's an amazing machine.

They look BADASS. Thats what hes going for :)

Reference to a 30 year old Aussie comedy sketch... in a thread about POTUS and Ospreys... man I love this place

Aussie pede

MAKE AMERICA AESTHETIC AGAIN

Sorry, I'm lazy: What were the issues they were having?

I wonder why they are using Ospreys. It’s not like it can use its speed or range advantages all that well escorting a traditional helicopter.

I’m fine with this.

😎

There’s nothing that makes the Osprey inherently better at inserting or exracting troops than a helicopter, and it’s actually far more vulnerable and dangerous in that role than a helicopter in many respects. The advantages of the Osprey only comes when those insertions or exractions need to happen particularly fast or far away.

They aren't actually escorting him in a security sense. They carry staff members and, often, press pool around with the president.

Source : I was a presidential/vice presidential communications lead until a couple months ago, when I retired.

These flew right over my house that day when he left. My wife and I waved to them from the street. We both felt blessed.

There are people who havent rubbed one out to an A-10?

That’s honestly the only plausible explanation that I currently have. Image is important.

They look futuristic and extremelly 🅱️ADASS

lmao, context please.

oh i had forgotten about these guys hilarious

Helicopter designed by a Russian American? Sounds like collusion to me.

Thats so beautiful.

In short.... Crashing. I believe one of the larger issues was bearing wear. I got out before the transfer to the ospreys, but my best friend stayed in and moved over to them. I will ask him tonight.

There’s no other helicopter that’s in it’s class in speed, payload and range. Like most new military technology it’s always a bumpy start. I’d much rather be in a osprey then a chinook if an RPG was fired at me. You can’t really compare an osprey to a small conventional Helicopter because it’s not one. That’s why there developing the V-280 valor a scaled down version.

We do what we can; part of the night shift in particular.

There's a solid base of woke Aussies who know what's up and love Trump, support 2A, and despise the MSM lies. I tell people: if the US falls to tyranny, the West is over. We share a destiny... plus, as our mates, we want the best for you guys anyway (regardless of any benefit to us).

Yeah that’s what makes them great. They can cruise at 100mph faster than a Sea Knights top speed. And they can go from vertical to top speed faster than a Cobra can. That acceleration drastically cuts the amount of time a helicopter is in a dangerous zone loading and unloading.

Having run, repelled, and fast roped out of multiple helicopters I can tell you the Osprey gets the job done much quicker. And it can get people, ammo and supplies, and most importantly injured not only in and out faster, but to and from twice as fast.

They could show up earlier than the President and lay down fire on the reporters.

accidents that happened during the testing of the aircraft.

Reading about some of the mishaps during testing makes me think some of the engineers were legitimately retarded. At one point, both engine nacelles had the same plug and were located very close to each other, so in a rush it was possible to plug the engines in backwards and flip the thing over. Definitely not a Marine proof design.

Made so many widow's they became known as "The Widow Maker"

I'm a BRRRRRRRAPPER!

They towed it beyond the environment.

Low energy fappers.

Marine One is the Helicopter

They hover like a brick.

There’s a joke about POGs who are all moto and constantly are trying to act tough and be “Killers” - you ain’t killing anybody bud, unless you work on Ospreys... then it’s fair game.

Cute? What, do you write for Buzzfeed? Lay off the edamame, fam.

That's factually incorrect. Osprey's have the best safety record in the corps. Yet Marines hate them while 53s have the worst and Marines love them. Go figure.

Tech was moving too fast for the hardware available to build them, basically. I was almost graduated from high school (late 90's) when these fuckin things were dropping like flies. I remember two distinct training crashes relatively close together timewise that killed a SHITLOAD of US Marines. And this as I was preparing to join the Marine Corps. Lot of dudes were oblivious to the things' history but every time I rode one in Iraq (which was actually only a couple times) I was shittin-barbed-wire nervous. Give me a helo any day. Nice breeze and good for nap time. I could close my eyes on a bird and be out in 15 seconds.

I used to do Avionics on the Osprey. It is FAR from a turd.

Well I have my new desktop background link

Well I have my new desktop background

Trump is batman

shame.

Where the hell do you aussie-pedes come from? It's like you guys are playing your part in the overall struggle against retarded leftism.

Marine proof design.

LOOOL AT "MARINE PROOF DESIGN." TOP KEK, DEVIL DOG!!

HOLY SHIT! REAL LIFE VERTIBIRDS!

I personally hate the Osprey’s but damn that’s an awesome photo.

Drumpf is surely finished, this time.

what a time to retire! Didnt want to ride out the Trump wave?

The Harrier had that moniker as well. The F-100 had the label LT. Killer.

i did notice that after i posted my comment, but I'm too stubborn to delete it

So extended range, higher speed, larger payload and the added safety of multiple engines AREN'T inherently better?

They can carry a lot more soldiers than a normal helicopter, right? I’d think in the event that Marine 1 went down they might want the extra manpower to secure the site, especially in a city.

Problem with the Osprey is when one engine fails you’re pretty much screwed

Aussieland is the US' true greatest ally. Always our brothers in wars, support us on the international stage, etc. No other country in the entire world supports the United States in the way Australia does.

There's nothing that makes it better, except all the things that make it better.

The Osprey cannot auto rotate or fly on one engine/wing. You definitely do not want to be in an Osprey if it got hit with an rpg.

If you look close, there are two Ospreys and two helicopters.

As I recall, instances of auto rotation saving a crew in actual combat is pretty small, especially in recent years. Modern weapons result in too much damage for a helicopter to deal with. Instead, avoiding damage is preferable, and the speed of an osprey contributes to that.

Helicopters are certainly better in some situations, like dense urban environments, but people need to get over the false media stories about the osprey and realize there's a reason the military is adopting them so readily.

true, but they have auto-rotation and can land safely - albeit somewhat hard - but safely.

with the Osprey's track record, if they put the POTUS in one I would consider it an assassination attempt.

I know. They had that problem fixed when I was in too. But the stigma stayed. If I’m not mistaken it actually had the least amount of accidents in development than any other current aircraft. It’s just that on 4 of those occasions they had a bunch of Marines in them and 30 people died.

They got a power transfer arrangement if I remember correctly. It does but it can't hover on one engine forcing it to land like a plane.

I did multiple missions where we used ospreys for insertion. They are bad ass. I'll never forget when a lcpl on my team threw up in his helmet during the ride in ( for some reason he took it off to use as a puke bucket ) and had to do the whole mission with puke on his head.

That still begs the question as to why they are using this aircraft which isn’t as cost effective as other options for routine staff transportation.

To be fair, if Chinooks AREN'T dripping hydraulic fluid on you, you're about to have a problem.

Cute? Okay.... you need to stop comparing completely different helicopters with different roles. Each one is designed for different uses. Marine one is the presidents transport they’re not going to any battlefields so obviously they opt out for reliability and safety over performance. No need to get angry we’re just talking about helicopters and this is just reddit.

He’s likely in one of the Sikorskies in the front.

They can lift the same or slighly more then the UH-60 and can carry more troops. 20 vs. 8 to 10.

Nope. They actually can’t lift that much weight or carry that many troops. The real takeaway from the Osprey looking like a success is that Marines are awesome. You can give them something that has limitations and they will find a way to make it work for them and still get stuff done.

That does sound like Marines lol

Look up the FVL program. Army may be getting a mini Osprey soon.

Super funny

I thought this was a cut scene from one of the Avenger movies before I read the title.

Glad they got it right now.

Username checks out.

You just described every experimental aircraft ever.

As lo g as they dont put POTUS in one. They cant autorotate if an engine messes up.

Once the Air Force took over, crash rate went way down lol

More or less this. There's a complicated transmission between the two nacelles but loss of engine power is a much greater danger than normal aircraft or helicopters.

The brotherhood of steel must be working on the wall

It was not always so. :(

It’s in the void

Yeah I don't know, I go weeks without posting because I'm just here for the memes.

Sarah Sanders does a great job at this. It must feel bad getting ass raped by a woman every day. Wait these are cucked liberals they enjoy it. No wonder why they keep going after her.

FLEXXINNN

IIRC, it had some stability problems early on, but its been a while back, so I don't recall exactly.

That is too fucking cool!

Is that you, Lando?

I died.

Then I tealized that "solo: a star wars story" promotes toxiv masculinity and rape culture by encouraging the development of sex bots, which have no free will and can't give consent.

When was this? I saw and heard a pair of Ospreys fly over my home in North Jersey a few days ago.
