Chris Pine is in a lot of movies these days and it's still not enough.
This looks trippy af. I'm in.
I think Pine is making a good transition from flavor of the month young male actor to someone who when he's 70 would still have a career. I've notice more and more of his roles don't try to play up his looks. They really do appreciate his comedic skills as well.
I'm sure he's done other films but this is the first time I've seen him play a father of teens.
Except for the trailer song (can we please stop with the trend of sad pop covers for movie previews?), it looks pretty intriguing. That creepy neighborhood scene caught my eye, in particular.
I need to reread this book
"The only thing faster than light..."
DON'T SAY "LOVE", DON'T YOU FUCKING SAY IT
"Is the Darkness..."
Oh thank god... Looks neat! I got a Tomorrowland vibe from it.
I'm a sucker for movies where Chris Pine plays a sexy science man, so count me in.
And thusly, a great Dr. Jones. I'm starting rumors here.
Just realized through this trailer that Chris Pine would make an AMAZING college professor
This was one of my all-time favorite books as kid - it's a quick, easy read (I read this book in one day during a school day - on the way to school on the bus, the bus trip home, and at school).
This looks visually breathtaking, and the cast looks great. Ava Duvernay did an excellent job with both Selma and the documentary 13th, so I'm incredibly excited to see this.
Thanks for single-handledly destroying my hype for this movie in one sentence
I rolled my eyes when the 'sad cover of pop song' started, but they actually followed through when the beat hit. Ended up being an appropriate pick, IMO.
You get a teaser trailer! AND YOU get a teaser trailer! AND YOU GET A TEASER TRAILER!
EVERYONE GETS A TEASER TRAILER!!
Nah he was in Into The Woods and The Finest Hours
Holy shit that scene in the suburbs at the end. This night better be dark and stormy as fuck.
I don't really see how it's a 'sad cover' Sweet Dreams always seemed like an eerie song to me.
They definitely got the spirit of the books
Bellamy Young looks amazing playing a creepy housewife.
I just reread it a couple months ago for the first time since I was in the 5th grade. (I'm 32 now.) it's just as weird as I remember it, with more religious undertones than I recalled, and was easy enough to read in a night. But I still enjoyed it.
AGOOONYYYYY MUCH MORE PAINFUL THAN YOURS
I think his kid (kids?) in Hell or High Water were teens or close to it. Which if you haven't seen that movie go watch it tonight. It's my favorite film from last year.
I'm sold. They got the mood down.
I'm a sucker for movies where Chris Pine plays anything
It's exactly like the book. The kids are all bouncing their balls at the exact same time, and everyone does everything at the same time, at the same beat/cadence.
In fact, it's exactly like I pictured it in my mind. I'm amazed how similar it is.
Came here to say this. Is this his first Disney film since Princess Diaries 2?
He stole a lot of scenes in Wonder Woman. Especially the scene where he runs to catch the plane - that one moment with the head turn and he sold exactly everything about the character's head space.
DARKNESS FOR EVERYONE!! EVERYONE GOT FREE DARKNESS!!! YEAAAAHH!
Oh my god Ava. You did not have to go that HARD sis.
She actually came out at D23 and said YOU GET A POSTER , YOU GET A POSTER !
He's fantastic but I often feel like he's elevating films from "OK" to "pretty good, actually."
Oprah and Zach Galafanakis. Never thought I'd see them in the same movie.
This is exciting because this is the first time Ava DuVernay tackle a big budget movie. The Cast are terrific and look better than the EW photos.
I read the book in 5th grade (I'm 25 now) and remember almost nothing about it. That scene though was like a flash back to my childhood. I vaguely remember a floating head with red eyes too, is that right?
"Faster than the speed of love" by Brian Griffin
but Disney better not pull a Starship Troopers and mess this up.
You mean have the director of Robocop, an amazing dystopian satire about greed and excess, make a fantastic satire about war and enthusiastic fascism?
Id be happy if Disney just pulled "starship troopers" from now on.
I forgot how cool it was as a kid to read this book. "Your father has discovered something..." Should be a great movie for everyone, but definitely will blow away kids.
I really think that he might now be my favorite of the Chrises (out of Hensworth, Evans, Pratt, and Pine). He's just so goddamn charismatic and charming.
Wrinkle in Time predates The Neverending Story by 16 years.
This looks horrible.
"Some of them want to use you Some of them want to get used by you Some of them want to abuse you Some of them want to be abused."
Yea it isn't exactly subtle.
The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement
I've literally never seen a movie capture a book scene so closely to how I picture it. Beautifully designed and shot. I'm very excited to see it!
Would you say he was a typical example of his sex?
Yeah you can't make a sad cover of a sad song. It's just a cover of the song.
why do the ladies not look like hobos? That's how they are described in the book.
Is there any part Chris Pine can't pull off? Incredible
Oprah will pull me out of suspension of disbelief probably
OOH the "Aunt Beast" creatures. Not what I saw in my head but I like it.
I like how Meg and Calvin LOOK, now let me see them ACT a little!
The man with the red eyes!
Charles Wallace does not look five to me
That bouncing ball scene: YESSSS!
Isn't Zach Galifinakous the Happy Medium? Expected a quick ending shot with him...
Overall I feel they brightened up the look while trying to keep the uneasy feeling. It looks great. But I've read this book every other year since I was 10, and I'm nearly 50 now. I hope little changes don't irk me too much and I can enjoy the film. Of course, this is a minute and a half trailer so why worry at this point? I have high hopes!
WHEN YOU KNOW SHE WOULD GO WITH YOU... IF THERE ONLY WERE DOOOOOOORS
If they ever recast, he definitely has the charisma for the role.
He's also one of the few leading men who aims for a "normal person in fairly good shape" physique, rather than the more popular "pile of muscles with a face on top" look.
This movie looks like Tomorrowland and The Giver, plus a little of Alice Through the Looking Glass.
Ugh, I wa hoping that the movie would follow the low key matter of fact nature of the book but it seems Disney really blockbustered the shit out of A Wrinkle In Time.
Also unfortunately it looks like Mrs. Which won't be in her shimmering light...
Chris Pine looks great.
Imagine being so stupid you let something like skin color keep you from a good movie. Yeesh.
This looks like a meaningless blockbuster that everyone is gonna hype about and then be disappointed with.
Remember Smoking Aces? He was grimy as fuck in that movie. Same for Z for Zachariah and a few others. I mean, sure, he still is Chris Pine but he's downplayed his looks a few times.
Seconding this. Hell or High Water was easily in my top three from last year.
I also remember liking A Swiftly Tilting Planet.
It would be sooooo awesome if they made this a series and included the unicorn messing up the genetic timeline of the south american dictator, and the evil spirits who possess the mitochondria, and the one where they go back in time to the great flood and just kind of dick around helping build the ark.
Hollywood, stop doing that thing with the slow pop songs. Thanks.
The visual style really isn't doing it for me. The book's descriptions of things were often very simple, muted, and unpretentious - with moments of awe interspersed. The very ornate visual style here seems directly at odds with the mood of the book.
I'm a big Mellie fan, so I'm glad Bellamy Young popped up as the featured Stepford wife (even though the role is likely miniscule).
She really did. I don't think you can make this movie without going hard. I don't know if it will work out, but this is not one you make with conservative choices.
Excellent books Hope they don't stray too far. I'm curious about the Oprah effect on this movie.
You could say that of all the Chrises. I am also including my neighbor Chris who is a goddamn delight.
I was so surprised to see her! I love her in Scandal & have thought she should break out for a while now.
Really impressed with the casting on Meg. Thought they would just pick a conventionally attractive 18 year old and just throw glasses on her. Nice to see they went with someone age appropriate and not a straight up model
Time to start sharing. That's how rumors work. I'll be right back
I thought I was the only one...
Looks like garbage
MADELEINE L'ENGLE CINEMATIC UNIVERSE
I'd better be getting Arm of the Starfish by 2025
People forget that Oprah did an Oscar nominated role in The Color Purple, before she became Oprah the talk-show host.
She's an amazing actor.
Oh it's not just skin colour. It's gender too!
"I traveled the world and the seven seas
I AM WATCHING YOU THROUGH A CAMERA!"
I love the feel and some of the imagery here, but I find Oprah too distracting. Hopefully in the movie it wears off fast.
Yea... I definitely imagined a bit of a darker color palate reading the books. Parts of this look fucking Speed Racer levels of color saturation.
Dude weed lmao!
Gugu mbatha-raw is one of the most physically perfect human beings I've ever seen
There was a 50/50 that link coulda been of reddit or youtube. This shithole is just as bad
"The only thing faster than the light is the darkness."
Bitch, you took that from The Neverending Story 2, didn't you?
Oh I'm not denying the similarities, it's just not a combination I want to imagine...especially with Through the Looking Glass being one of the worst films I've seen
The only slight difference is it's a cul de sac instead of a straight road, but that just makes it even creepier. Also it might have been a cul de sac in the book and I just visualized it wrong
Oprah is my god.
Ava DuVernay has a perfect record so far and it's cool to see her jump into another genre.
I understand why you'd think that, but Madeleine L'Engle was strongly Christian.
There is a very noticeable Christian tone to all of those books, and the best comparison would be The Chronicles of Narnia. Narnia also has witches and pagan creatures, and also brings up Jesus and talks about God being the creator of the various worlds.
Pretty sure it's a disembodied brain
Oh boy. This looks great. I'm totally here for this.
I thought they were gonna say time.
I feel like there are a lot of chris's that pull that off. Evans, Hemsworth, and Pratt all seem to be able to make shitty movies watchable
Gonna get high as fuck then go see this movie
Also setting it in what seems like LA instead of rural Connecticut is baffling
ITT: people's frustration with slow pop music in trailers.
But the trailer looked sick AF!
He rocked the fuck out of his role in Angie Tribeca.
He's "above average".
"Anyone that doesn't share my personal opinion is obviously a shill."
Dude, she's an angel that is the reincarnated soul of a dead sun posing as a hobo witch. Damn right she's gonna look bizarre.
I appreciate that he's not taking the obvious choices and seems eager to play with leading man expectations. Into the Woods cast him as Prince Asshole, and his role in Wonderland Woman was subversive for the fact he played the romantic appendage to the female lead with not a single hint of irony. Most casually feminist male role I've ever seen in an action film, or pretty much anywhere. As he ages he should start getting more weird and wonderful parts. Looking forward to see where he takes his career.
This looks so good, but i really wish they juxtaposed the trailer with ambient music rather than a pop song cover.
She's so distinct she pulls me out of the fantasy, I don't see the character, I see Oprah Winfrey in a costume. But overall this looks great.
A Wrinkle In Time is really not that Christian. It's way more Pagan. Mrs Who, Mrs Whatsit, and Mrs Which are very much an allusion to Triple Goddess figures, and Jesus is mentioned as being on the same level as Gandhi.
This looks fucking incredible. Can't wait.
'A Wrinkle in Time' has more heart than Transformers so it's not really a "meaningless" blockbuster.
Are we looking at the same movie? The shot composition looks infinitely more inspired than anything from Transformers lol.
Reminds me of Spy Kids tbh
