Hi all! Your earthquake perspective here.
What you need to know:
Magnitude: Originally an 8.0, the USGS has updated their magnitude to an 8.1. Their Mexican counterparts place this quake as an 8.4.
Location: 96km SW of Pijijiapan, Mexico. This is offshore and means there is a risk of Tsunami.
Depth: The Depth has been updated from 33km to 69.7km, making this pretty deep.
Intensity of Shaking: The Shakemap has been updated to show that Violent (XI) shaking is expected to have been felt on the West Coast of Mexico and Guatemala. The Did You Feel It Reports show that people all the way in Guatemala felt this event. Mexican reports closer to the epicentre reflect the same Severe (XI) shaking, however the number of reports right now are limited. If you felt this quake, please Fill this Report out!
Expected Fatalities:Expected Fatalities Probability (%) 11-100 10 101-1000 28 1,001-10,000 35 10,001-100,000 20 100,001+ 7
Expected Costs:Expected Costs (USD) Probability (%) $100m-$1b 4 $1b-$10b 16 $10b-$100b 33 $100b-$1T 31 $1T+ 16
Tsunami: Currently a Tsunami threat for the west coast of Central America. Not a warning as of writing this report. If, however, you are on the west coast of Central America, please follow all emergency guidance.
Aftershocks: This is a very large quake, which brings with it a risk of larger aftershocks around the 7.0 level, and even more 6.0's etc. Due to the location however, you may not feel all of them.
I'll be around for questions.
Mexican here, 5 seconds before, my cat ran to the door like she just won the lottery.
Holy shit. What else does the planet have in store for us this week?
That's an effect of the P-Waves.
the owners also own the worlds tallest cat. https://imgur.com/gallery/roQL6
edit: instagram handle is starcats_detroit
Thank you for that link, I thoroughly enjoyed it
Also that cat is unbelievably tall o.o
Ciggy, Ciggy, Ciggy...Can't you see? Sometimes your tails just hypnotize me.
Arcturus is an awesome, chill cat. Went to a Ferndale fundraiser and got his picture taken/was passed around between around 100-150 people over 2-3 hours (outside) and NEVER lost his chill. (Pic from last year in the late summer, he's prob bigger now, I'm 6' #250 for reference)
She is gorgeous! She looks wise and beautiful.
Thank you :) she is very wise and most beautiful IMO.
What a lovely dog. You can just tell she's sweet.
I can't even put into words how sweet she is :)
I hope someone is held responsible for this so changes are made.
When you make 500% profit per pen you can afford a bulletproof process and quality control. Totally unacceptable.
I work for an international medical device company, we have a worldwide protocol and system to report and escalate any type of failure or complaint.
Heads should roll there, starting at the top. After an FDA audit of one of our businesses, an issue was identified and the CEO of that business as well as a few others were promptly fired.
Oh that is hilarious that you think they only make 500% profit. They cost maybe $30 to make, while at the height were charging a non-insurance rate of $1118. That works out to 3600% profit.
It was 500% profit at the old rate of about $180 per pen.
This jump may seem unnecessary but it looks like those little paws could slip through that grate. Nice big jump little guy!
Looking at , I think the whole puppy could slip through the grate ;)
the slow motion made me feel it in my ovaries and I'm a guy
Poms are usually 90% fluff so that makes sense
We also rearrange things on a monthly basis to make sure that you're always finding new things.
Working at Costco was the same for employees. Customers would ask me questions and I would walk around with them looking.
Mark up is insanely small, I'm talking pennies, which is why the prices are usually better than competitors. Thats why you'll see items that have damaged boxes, but are still on the shelf. It's also why there are no discounts for display items.
Cashiers are supposed to work at a certain speed of items per minute/members per hour which is why they may seem kinda a brisk or rude. It has nothing to do with how they may be feeling, but their job is to get you in and out as quickly as possible.
Stores also cater to their neighborhoods, that's why there is no set stock of items. So if there's an item you want those comment cards are important. Employees are also recognized for comment cards left about them, good and bad, and they go in to our files.
If there is an asterisk in the top corner of the price tag that means it's "pending delete" once those items are gone, they're gone.
EDIT: u/take_it_in_strider seemed to have some more accurate info so I've put it below. Though I will say that my location has a corporate HQ attached so that may account for the discrepancies.
Margin is capped at 13.9%. It doesn't mean all items are that much, it's just the absolute maximum products are allowed to be sold for. Costco will also drop a vendor if a product has too many returns (indicative of shit quality).
Product is re-arranged by floor managers because they have to balance the remaining stock of existing product while clearing room for new stuff coming in. Sometimes product is late arriving or they didn't order enough, and they have to audible to fill a slot. That's why you sometimes see two pallets in a row of the same item. It's a constant game of trade-offs, it has nothing to do with messing with customers. The only designated displays are the end caps, which vendors pay extra for.
Nobody really gives a shit how slow or fast cashiers are. Some are always fast and some are always slow, and if help is needed they pull people off the floor to open up a register for a few minutes. It's also highly dependent on having a good assistant in your lane who knows where to hustle all the good boxes off the floor, and can do it quickly without abandoning you for a half hour at a time.
Tell us more about the wonders of Costco!
hEAr clears throat
Before being called on for attendance
"Alright man, just sound like you're emotionally stable. Give a nice, loud HERE. Don't let your voice crack. It'll all be good and over with once you say it."
Professor gets closer to my name
"Be ready. Don't fuck up."
Clears Throat Again
Professor is extremely close
"Here it comes"
Clears Throat Again, Just In case
Professor calls my name
All that over doing for a simple word smh. Anxiety is a bitch.
Oh God, the moments leading up to your name being called...
What about when you say here but you end up not making any sound? Then the professor looks around and is about to say your name again. Then you say here normally but the professor said your name at the same time so they didn't hear you. Now you gotta say it AGAIN and look stupid as fuck. Me everytime
Oh my god, my heart..
Oh my, that little face ❤️
Edit: give lots of cuddles to them both from me!!
ITT: Tough crowd
EDIT: Well if it's such a blasphemous repost, why y'all keep upvoting?
I've been on reddit for years. I went viral and multi-media because of reddit. I've never seen this.
You all talk about reposts, but reposts get upvotes when enough people who didn't see it, see it, like it, and upvote it.
Repost bitching is saying the internet, and the entire world, is here simply for your amusement. That, or you're pissed you didn't save this and repost it yourself. Either way you're a docuhe.
To the reposter: Stop stealing peoples shit
It's a common repost. When you're on Reddit as much as us losers and you see the same posts week after week it starts to get old.
Not old enough to stop coming back mind you.
Well I liked it.
Being from Ohio, I am not quite sure if this is actually John Kasich I have been seeing and reading about lately.
He has me baffled, but in a good way. I am glad he is being decent, which should be the default, but you know... Republican politicians don't have a track record of that.
fixing the problem of gerrymandering should be in the interest of everyone but the extreme ideologues.
i really hope this passes, it's one of the most important things to fix the usa.
Maybe I sound paranoid, but I feel like the Republicans have thoroughly utilized the gerrymandering over the past few decades to organize significant strongholds and now that demographic projections aren't overly in their favour regarding millennial beliefs and immigration trends, they're happy to consider making sure that the same gerrymandering can't be used against them.
He can put his money where his mouth is, then. Long time Democratic Rep Marcy Kaptur has gone from from representing a district in Toledo to representing a district that covers part of Toledo, part of West Cleveland, and a 120 mile stretch of Lake Erie coastline in between the two cities.
