Pay it forward.

Pay it forward.

I work at a large retail store and usually do customer service but on this particular night on the last hour of my shift, I was on a register. It was pretty busy since I was the only register open and I had a steady line for the majority of the time. I noticed an older lady had a half a cart full and let a person in front of her, then another, and another... I think I counted 6. Which is extremely nice. Even though I see people let others in front frequently, not that many people. Anyways, I was chatting with one of the guys about how nice she was being and I finished ringing him up. After he paid he took out his wallet, grabbed 100 dollars (5 twenties) and handed it to me. He said "put this towards that ladies total, don't let her refuse." I was pretty shocked and asked him if he was sure. Fast forward to me checking her out. I ring up all her stuff and make small chat. After I tell her the total, I mention nonchalantly that one of the people had given her the money towards her groceries. She nearly cried and was ecstatic wanting to know the persons name. Unfortunately, I didn't get the guy's name. I just hope one day I can get to the point of being able to show gratitude in such a way. The guy followed up with a phone call to one of my coworkers to make sure I had given it to her.
