So they went to a conference where the people despise coal to try and peddle it. They are really stupid.
Why is this dude so obsessed with coal? Does he think we just unlocked the Steam Power tech and he wants to mine it for production?
It's like coal, Putin, and Nazis are the only three things he can't speak negatively about.
Not if their goal is to make America look stupid. Only if they are loyally following the orders of Putin, does this make any kind of sense.
Because Obama promoted cleaner energy and Trump is obsessed with undoing what Obama did but Trump has no way to save coal. He would have an easier time trying to repeal ACA, and that was a huge failure of Trump.
He shouldn't be making himself such a convenient excuse for them.
This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 90%. (I'm a bot)
Theresa May has launched her strongest attack on Russia yet, accusing Moscow of meddling in elections and carrying out cyber espionage.
Well, not Theresa May. In a speech in the US in February, the prime minister spoke of the need to "Engage but beware" of Russia.
Mr Johnson, who will be making his first trip to Russia since becoming foreign secretary in December, has said the UK's policy to Russia must be one of "Beware but engage" following a decade of strained relations.
Putin definitely wants the adversarial relationship with the west. He's great at asymmetrical warfare. He doesn't have to win in the sense that the west demands if its leaders. He just has to end up with more influence than he had before.
Start fighting back by aiming your arrows at collaborators like Boris Johnson.
A second Brexit referendum, as the first was trolled by Russia.
I'm sure her rock-bottom popularity and impending vote of no confidence has nothing to do with the timing of this announcement.
Americans, please don't use May as an example of what Trump should be doing. She's far from the prime example of a good leader.
Edit : I’ve been pretty vocal about jut how much I hate Trump. I blame the fact the DNC chose Hilary as their candidate over Bernie for Trump managing to take office. Bernie would have wiped the floor with the orange one and put your country on the path to being ”Great Again”.
Well,... For all the same reasons you chose not to vote at all, than vote for Hilary.
May is sort of our Hilary. No for what she stands for or party she represents.... The same in that she is a conniving career politician. May only came to power through the back door, and after failing to secure a majority off her own steam, kept power by securing back room dodgy deals with the DUP.
Shout-out to this gem by Wikileaks on Reddit 1 year ago:
The allegations that we have colluded with Trump, or any other candidate for that matter, or with Russia, are just groundless and false.
"Every government and NGO should be transparent except for us because we're unquestionably the most just and noble people ever. No agenda here, just the truth." - Wikileaks
“Hi Don. Sorry to hear about your problems,” WikiLeaks wrote. “We have an idea that may help a little. We are VERY interested in confidentially obtaining and publishing a copy of the email(s) cited in the New York Times today,” citing a reference in the paper to emails Trump Jr had exchanged with Rob Goldstone, a publicist who had helped set up the meeting....
The message was sent at 9:29 am on July 11. Trump Jr. did not respond, but just hours later, he posted the emails himself, on his own Twitter feed.
WOW. Maybe that explains why he did it. He could have been inspired by them.
the same day that Trump Jr. received the first message from Wikileaks, he emailed other senior officials with the Trump campaign, including Steve Bannon, Kellyanne Conway, Brad Parscale, and Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner, telling them Wikileaks had made contact. Kushner then forwarded the email to campaign communications staffer Hope Hicks.
Well, it looks like a lot of senior people in the campaign knew about this.
On October 3, 2016, Wikileaks wrote again. “Hiya, it’d be great if you guys could comment on/push this story,” Wikileaks suggested, attaching a quote from then-Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton about wanting to “just drone” Wikileaks founder, Julian Assange.
“Already did that earlier today,” Trump Jr. responded an hour-and-a-half later. “It’s amazing what she can get away with.”
That's collusion between the Trump campaign and Wikileaks.
“Hey Don. We have an unusual idea,” Wikileaks wrote on October 21, 2016. “Leak us one or more of your father’s tax returns.” Wikileaks then laid out three reasons why this would benefit both the Trumps and Wikileaks. One, The New York Times had already published a fragment of Trump’s tax returns on October 1; two, the rest could come out any time “through the most biased source (e.g. NYT/MSNBC).”
It is the third reason, though, Wikileaks wrote, that “is the real kicker.” “If we publish them it will dramatically improve the perception of our impartiality,” Wikileaks explained. “That means that the vast amount of stuff that we are publishing on Clinton will have much higher impact, because it won’t be perceived as coming from a ‘pro-Trump’ ‘pro-Russia’ source.”
Maybe the most serious thing about these messages. Wikileaks looking out for itself to improve the perception of impartiality, only so their Clinton leaks have higher impact.
Wikileaks is compromised beyond all doubt. There is no impartiality and there has probably never been any. Fuck Assange!
Wikileaks has linked directly to the alt-right sub The_Donald a couple of times.
They promoted their conspiracy theories about Seth Rich and Pizzagate.
They claimed that all their critics were globalist Jews. After getting called out for it, they deleted the Tweet and blamed "Clinton Hacks."
They were straight up selling Clinton dicking bimbos t-shirts for a while.
They defended Russia when the Panama Papers came out.
Not to mention Assange claimed he would be in America by now.
I fear those same people won't care about this. They might even think it's great.
Edit: Redid the comment with sources.
The other way around, but yeah wow!
Wikileaks made a series of increasingly bold requests, including asking for Trump's tax returns, urging the Trump campaign to reject the results of the election as rigged, and requesting that the president-elect tell Australia to appoint Julian Assange ambassador to the United States.
Anyone at this point who says the Russia story is a "nothingburger" is either willfully ignorant or functionally retarded.
Of course, recently the goalpost has been moved to "It isn't illegal to collude with Russia", so I guess we're going to be on this shitty ride for a while longer. Goddamn.
a panel including George David Banks, president Trump’s special energy assistant
When asked later by Climate Home News if the administration held the policy that the 2C warming target from the Paris deal needed to be avoided, he said: “I actually don’t know that means”.
You can't make this stuff up. I am so embarrassed to be an American today.
For those who doesn't know:
2C = 2 degrees Celsius
The goal was to reduce carbon emissions due to a 2 degrees Celsius increase in average global temperature since the industrial revolution age. The act is to keep the global increase in temperature below 2 degrees Celsius.
If you're in charge of the energy sector, your ass is suppose to know what means.
Guys. I just realized that I am literally more qualified to be the United States' Special Energy Assistant than this asshat is, and I'm not even in environmental science.
Like I could waltz out there on the international stage and be less of an embarrassment in representing our country. That should be alarming to anyone.
And the significance of 2C is...2C is the scientific community's best estimate of a point of no return.
If we fail to keep increases below 2C complex issues come into play like
• ocean carbon release
• melting permafrost
• reduction in polar caps
These issues are likely self reinforcing. They may compound each other and thereafter the heating of the planet becomes unstoppable.
Intentionally simplified, greatly appreciate any suggestions.
That’s actually really good news to me
The EU is now no longer being held back by the UK.
the EU will be a country within the next century.
This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 70%. (I'm a bot)
It took 70 years, but the European Union finally signed a pact today agreeing to integrate military funding, weapons development, and deployment of European defenses.
The UK had always resisted the idea of joint EU defense, fearing some kind of big "European army," but the country's planned exit from the bloc has removed that hurdle, allowing 23 other EU countries to move forward.
The group will have a €5 billion European Defense Fund to buy weapons, a different fund for operations, and also get money from the EU budget for research.
Well, he's already come out as a gay man. This must be deflective technique number 2.
It's worth noting that even if this is true, it doesn't alter the truth (or otherwise) of the original accusation.
Heartbreaking though it might be, it's entirely possible for Takei to be a sexual assaulter and for Russian to be pushing the story for their own reasons (eg, as claimed, as revenge for Takei's historical public criticism of their backwards LGBT laws).
Note that even Takei himself doesn't claim that Russia is the source of the accusations.
Yes, why demand proof before ruining someone's reputation and career?
We should demand proof of Russia's involvement as well.
From the earlier posting of this news:
Airlifted him out. Whole thing is actually still developing. Local news is swarmed with it.
Edit #1: It's 1805 local time here. They've got the defector in a hospital in Seoul and are working on him. Looks like he was fired on by the North Korean military as he was running away. Made it to a location that was close enough for South Korean/JSA personnel to access him.
Edit #2: 1711 local time now. No longer at work so not seeing any more news updates. I don't know that anything further will come out of this story, except maybe some status updates on the outcome for the defector's health. No shots were fired at anyone other than the defector. Guess we'll see if anything further comes from this as more comes out.
This is because the South Korean government does not recognize North Korea as an independent state but as a socialist rebel entity illegally occupying northern parts of the 'Republic of Korea' and all citizens living there to be legal subjects of the Republic, rather than just out of sympathy and benevolence toward the North Korean people. Technically, Kim Jong-un is a South Korean citizen.
This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 64%. (I'm a bot)
SEOUL - A North Korean soldier defected to the South on Monday after being shot and wounded by the North Korean military, South Korea said.
The soldier was found on the south side of the border village of Panmunjom, about 50 meters south of the Military Demarcation Line, wounded in his shoulder and elbow, according to a South Korean defense ministry official.
While on average more than 1,000 North Koreans defect to South Korea every year, most travel via China and it is unusual for a North Korean to cross the land border dividing the two Koreas, which have been in a technical state of war since their 1950-53 conflict ended in a truce, not a peace treaty.
Won't his family be killed for this?
This kind of absurd generalization and holocaust denialism really doesn't help foreigners sympathize with Palestinians. Palestinians have access to the Red Cross, Israeli medical care, stipends from the PA, access to higher education, etc.
Palestinians don't die in Israeli jails. It is nothing compared to the jails in Arab countries, or certainly Palestinians jailed by the Palestinian government. The fact that Israel is updating the world on its policies is itself evidence of transparency and openness.
this isn't whataboutism. human rights are universal, but supporters of israel's neighbors criticize israel - it really makes no sense.
whatever israel does it will be condemned. it's existence is questioned daily, while it's neighbors are not only ignored but in many cases victimized. in fact, their problems are often blamed on - guess who - israel.
this undermines the credibility of the often one-sided, hysterical condemnation of israel.
Removing access to basic utilities? You know Israel not only provides basically all of the power to Gaza and the WB, they pay for it, too? They are owed 100s of millions in electric bills but still keep the power flowing.
I would say it is more complicated than that, especially since almost all of Israel's relations with Palestinians is predicated on loose treaties with the Palestinian Authority.
You won't find stories of Israeli agriculture working and training Palestinian farmers, Israel modernizing Palestinian irrigation, university exchanges for Palestinians, access to Israeli health care (often for free, PA rather spend money on terrorists in prisons than health care for locals).
Israel isn't perfect but pro-Palestinian advocates don't even bother to recognize the Palestinian government's self-harm and self-destructive behavior.
