So I’m glad for her and all that... but how did the rejections pave the way (or in this case open the door) for the success?
Sounds like false equivalency. But it's an optimistic way of going through life. Which isn't a bad thing.
Well if she'd been accepted somewhere else she literally couldn't have worked for ELLE.
They didn’t call her back so it’s their loss, onto something bigger and better. Atleast that’s how I try and see it.
That's great and all, but that kid's parents should probably talk to him about getting into a stranger's car.
You know these type of students are gonna make a difference in the world. They're actually pursuing an education, wanting to better themselves. If I had missed my bus, I would have just thought, "Shoot. Guess no school for me today." And take a nice little walk back home. I look up to these kind of people.
As someone who gets in strangers' cars (and being a female), the risk is not that big. Most folks are decent.
Most violence/abuse comes from friends and family (yes, have experienced that myself).
That said, I do recommend precautions, like enabling "find my phone" for some folks you trust so you can't disappear. And on days I'd go outside for a jog at like 3 am, I would message a friend saying where I was going and what clothes I was wearing.
Edit: to bring the point home, I have better experiences with random cars than with Uber. They both fine, but the really really warmhearted folks were the random strangers. The creepy inappropriate old guy types are same for both Uber and randoms.
This genuinely made me pretty happy
You really do marry your best friend.
Edit - wait are you a male or female?... fuck it too late now
Edit 2 - OP's username: Rndomguytf... I guess there's a first time for everything :(
Sure u/Gallowboob, does next Tuesday work for you?
My momma be gassing me up so cold y'all
I feel like this is the American equivalent of when I read something that's really English and can't understand half of it even though I can read the words.
For people that don't understand: "my mother puts me on a pedestal and encourages me, you guys"
Proud momma is happy momma.
And me like make momma happy.
See I get the opposite. My mothers the type to hit me with "You really gonna leave the house in THAT?"
This happens to me with my daughter a lot. I'm stuck between a)moving her so I can go pee/get comfortable and b)the fact that in a year or two she won't want me to hold her anymore so just enjoy it while I can.
The struggle. I'd cut my arm off before I interrupted my mates sleeping.
“Babe you peed on the bed again?”
She will always need you. She may not act like it sometimes but when she's an adult and looking back she will remember you being there and be glad you were there and that she got that time with you.
Both of my parents are gone and I would give anything to hold either one again. Even my father who was never really there.
This happened to me once except my dad is not a police officer and I got a ticket
My Dad was a cop too and pulled this nonsense all the time. Its like the best Dad Joke ever to them.
If I was a police officer I would totally do this to my kids. If I had kids.
my good friend's dad was a cop growing up, it was real awkward when he actually had to arrest his son.
This is exactly why I dread trying to find accurate, candid/non-selfie photos of myself for dating sites.
Know that feeling 😂 my siblings can't take good pictures either..
Well nothing like a gorgeous, fit family to make me realize how out of shape I am on a sunday morning.
I recently lucked out because a professional photographer was taking pictures at my work and I came out looking awesome and genuinely candid. All other candid pictures of me are some retarded shit.
Well twins don't HAVE to look alike.
Racism is learned.
Yeah some biracial twins have totally different skin tones
From my understanding twins in some rare cases can have different fathers.
Edit: Heteropaternal superfecundation
Veterans fought for our right to choose either stand or sit.
The ones crying the loudest about "Sharia law" also seem to be the ones wanting to implement a western equivalent. Curious eh
I support Kaep for kneeling, but I hate it when people say teams are not signing Kaep because of what he did. They're not signing him because he's not good anymore.
I've never seen him be less than a great guy
His character on Brooklyn 99 never fails to crack me up.
Relevant story, Terry Crews uses the image himself to save some money
"Terry loves yogurt!"
"Uh Sarge, you should get checked out. You got like nine tracking devices in you."
