Where were you three years ago?

He also only asked for $10 and donated the vast majority of it to hunger relief charities. People like to leave that part out because it gets in the way of their blind outrage.

Not at potato stock :(

Can confirm. Got a cool hat. That's it.

TIL that after hurricane Katrina, FEMA distributed thousands of trailers with toxic levels of formaldehyde, were sued, and then sold them after a court order expired

TIL that after hurricane Katrina, FEMA distributed thousands of trailers with toxic levels of for...

Scientists suspected that the rush to produce large numbers of trailers might have caused manufacturers to cut corners—using low-cost or poorly prepared materials such as glues and pressed wood in construction of the trailers, and resulting in high levels of formaldehyde emissions.

On June 3, 2009, FEMA announced plans to virtually give away roughly 1,800 mobile homes to 3,400 families displaced by Hurricane Katrina who were living in government-provided housing along the Gulf Coast.

As a result, FEMA modified its specifications for emergency housing, requiring that units be larger and better ventilated.[15] Construction of "manufactured homes" provided in New Jersey in 2012 was regulated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.[44] Researchers are also investigating possibilities for better disaster housing alternatives.[45][46]

and....

Units were marked with stickers that identified them as not suitable for housing, and buyers were required to sign a waiver agreeing that trailers would not be used as housing, and that new owners would be informed of the risks if the units were resold.

it sounds like what was lacking was enforcement

The stickers are easy to remove, and Katrina FEMA trailers have been widely resold without any warning of possible health hazards. As many as 130,000 trailers are reported to have gone into the resale market, often in disaster zones and other places where there is strong demand for low-cost housing.

I wonder who would of been responsible for enforcement of the sale stipulations? I'm not sure, but it's certainly wasn't quite as black and white as one might want to believe.

My brother happens to have a FEMA marked trailer in his shed right now. Was given to him by a buddy who lived in it for years while working in Williston, ND. No idea how he got it or from who.

Feeling like Katrina with no FEMA

Apple also makes a supreme effort into not looking as well. This isn't making things right, this is damage control.

I guess that's why Foxconn has so many nets setup around the outside of their buildings, just in case their workers jump for joy while working for Apple.

Exactly. Also, who needs underage workers when you can jam adults into unsafe working conditions in Chinese factories for pennies an hour?

I just don't believe that shit. Apple probably has a whole thing you have to go through to prove that.

They'd look at a five year old in the face and claim they don't believe he's five until you show a birth record. And then after you do, they'd want proof he spent X amount of hours in Y location doing Z the whole time.

This is some save face bullshit I really highly doubt they actually follow.

For anyone not reading the article, this happened in 1972. After nearly half a century Singapore have since relaxed the rule.

Their loss.

Good catch. I think it's the latter, but I'm too lazy to check.

Relaxed or got rid of?

TIL there are blue bandaids with metal in them so they can be detected by metal detectors in food...

I knew they are blue so they stand out if you lose them in food processing environments. The metal part is stupidly simple and brilliant at the same time as most packaging lines include a metal detector anyway.

Man i wish i came up with that.

This is also why medical gauze used in surgery contains one thread of x-ray detectable material (usually barium sulphate)

So thats what that blue line is...

Do you think pizza places normally wave a metal detector over their finished pies?

Well if she had a baby, I'm fairly sure someone else discovered that before

Wiki says most scholars think this is fiction

"What's everyone looking at? Mary is the only one who can pop out a magic baby no questions asked? Ya know what forget I quit."

Kinda petty of him to be tweaked. It's a fucking movie about Eminem. Get your own story

The next line actually says he was being sarcastic in the interview:

"You can easily catch the sarcasm there, because Marv's also quick to give Em his props. "You could tell he was going off the dome and that was super impressive," he added. "He’s the best f--king rapper in the world, man. What can you say to the best person doing something?" "

Later on, it even says the guy still hangs out with Eminem.

Nice that you cut out the rest of the quote to make the chap look bad, right?

Imbecile.

Fuck off mate the literal next paragraph says he was joking.
