After his announcement Wednesday that he will not seek re-election in 2018, Rep. Jason Chaffetz told Fox 13 he is considering leaving Congress before the end of his term.
“When I contemplate another 200 nights away from home, it is just too much,” Chaffetz told Fox 13 News Anchor Bob Evans.
Can't wait for the real reason behind all this to break...
This is a huge deal. Last week, Louise Mensch tweeted that her sources told her that the Russians had kompromat on Chaffetz, and that the FBI knows it. (Shameless plug: I posted that in /sub/russialago this morning.)
The fact that he's already dropping the "spending more time with my family" line means that something's about to come out. That's what people say when they resign in scandal.
This is odd. Everyone else thinks this is seriously odd, right?
One of the most powerful House Republicans suddenly, unexpectedly (possibly) resigning, instead of continue to block investigations into a traitorous administration? What could be odd about that??
This is a good example of why the whole "talk to Trump supporters and work to change their minds" is a losing strategy. It's a cult. They need deprogramming, not Socratic method argument. It's not rational.
Or they'll believe you, but it won't hold.
My dad will, after a lot of coaxing and questions, come to my side, but days later he's back to the way he was prior to our conversation.
This is what's scary.
When they're presented with proof that goes against their beliefs, they just flat out refuse to believe it.
I'm not blonde and cute enough or old and angry enough to be Fox News.
Keep in mind this is a Republican president with majorities in both the House and the Senate threatening the minority party to fall in line because his leadership is too poor to unify his own party. And how does he threaten them? By saying he will take away health care benefits for 7 million of the least empowered people in the country.
What garbage this man is.
He is literally threatening to kill people.
The suggestion of Trump as the "ultimate deal maker" is dead and buried after healthcare debacle.
Supporters voted for a 'deal maker', ended up with a fraud.
Does anyone else find it amusing and scary that Republicans control nearly all of government at the moment, yet the fucking president still has to resort to intimidation techniques against the minority party in order to get anything accomplished?
How fucking pathetic can you be? Republicans are so devoid of ideas that they can't even do anything when they have complete control. And their useless know nothing leader can't even unite the party.
Watching Trump faceplant on every major domestic issue is going to be really satisfying. And each time he fucks everything up, he drags down GOP with him.
It's not shocking, it's Trump. This level of ignorance is standard. Xi had a bet with his translator. They thought of the stupidest thing a sitting president could say about Korea, and then Xi bet he could get Trump to tweet it, or say it on TV. Xi won. His translator owes him the usual bet, one dollar. (Looking good Billy Ray)
“After ten minutes, I realised it’s not so easy.”
This is Trump trying to sound smart. It only took him ten minutes. In reality this is, of course, something a world leader should know.
a disturbingly high number of people think this is a GOOD quality in Trump. They are ignorant to world history, geography, politics, conflict, etc etc. They are just happy that a dolt is now in the whitehouse. "Oh Obama thinks he's BETTER than me because he knows where Iran is on a map!!"
That's incredible if it happens like he said.
In ten minutes--which was probably 3 mins given Trump's attention span--Xi managed to brief him on the situation in a meandering way that apparently included the ancient history of the regions. Factor in the time for translation, too.
And Trump learned something, proving his utter lack of even a Wikipedia-level of understanding of the Korean situation, which is highly tense now
Cool, we just doubled the number of draft dodging pedophiles in the white house
Nugent said in 2012 that Barack Obama should "suck on my machine gun". He added: "Hey Hillary [Clinton], you might want to ride one of these into the sunset, you worthless b****."
Mr Nugent also called Mr Obama a “sub-human mongrel”.
So is Trump.
He was sexually attracted to 12-year-old Paris Hilton, cat-called a 10-year-old, bragged about wandering around in the dressing rooms of Miss TEEN America, made disgusting comments about his baby daughter's potential breast size, and have you seen the photos of him and a young Invanka?
That's not even the worst part. Ted Nugent is a pedo.
Senator Elizabeth Warren:
"What I think a big debate in Washington is about, is who is government going to work for, is it just going to work for the top, or is it actually gonna work for the rest of America?..."
"But the Russia thing, I put in a totally different category...That's the one that should not be partisan. I don't care if you're a Democrat, if you're a Republican, if you're an Independent, if you're a Libertarian, I don't care: You should care whether or not Russia finagled our election, or otherwise, is calling any of the shots in Washington."
"Everybody should care, so let's start with what we absolutely know, for sure:"
"We know that the intelligence community of the United States of America said, Russia hacked in to American systems in order to influence the outcome of the 2016 election. Pow!"
"We know, for sure, that the FBI has an active and ongoing investigation about the ties between Russia and the Trump campaign and Donald Trump. Wow!"
"And we know, for sure, that top Trump aides, as you have just talked about, have been fired, because of their ties, their undisclosed ties and connections with Russia. Now, for me, that's is enough to say, we've got to have an investigation."
"We need a special prosecutor, with strong subpoena powers, and We need an independent commission, and All of us should want that. This is not about partisanship, this is about patriotism."
Trump betrayed the country when he colluded with Russia during the election. He's destroying the country at this very moment. The faster Trump goes to jail, the better for the country.
Sooooo....when can we elect this person president? Her and Bernie as Pres and VP would be too much to handle. I would have to actually work on diminish the toxic levels of cynicism that have been weighing on my soul for the last 3 decades (or so.)
Orange is the New Orange
Locked Up: A Fraud
Trump is a coward.
Why worry about the public getting on to the White House grounds unnoticed, when members of Congress can get in and out in a cloak and dagger operation.
Man of the people, putting up more and more barriers.
Couldn't have said it better myself. He's right up there with all the Republicans who refuse to hold town halls because they're scared the "liberals will turn violent."
United Airlines has taken me to my chosen destination in a timely manner, even if a bit uncomfortable, successfully half a dozen times in the past few years. While I was disturbed by the video like everyone else, it is one incident out of millions of potential ones each year.
Donald Trump is Donald Trump.
United Airlines got people to beat the shit out of a paying customer.
Donald Trump is Donald Trump
United Airlines does not grab your pussy without consent
In all honesty, this isn't even fair to United Airlines. They had one incident. Trump is a daily dumpster fire that is going to spread like a California wildfire.
I'm sure he has his treasons.
He really was Russian to get out
He's Putin' on his best face as he meets the press.
imho, in order of likeliness...sex scandal/marital problems wants to run for Governor in 2020 and thinks that not being associated with whatever Trump/Congress does in the next 2 years will help him thinks that Republicans will be in the minority after 2018 and doesn't want to have to go from being a powerful Chairman to a rank-and-file member money troubles a health problem he wants to keep under wraps being blackmailed knows something catastrophic that's coming down the pike and wants to get out of Dodge
Whoa. If Utah is actually preparing a special election, this just got upgraded from an idle rumor to a potential scandal.
Guaranteed he's resigning. Politicians do not make statements like that without having the intentions to follow through. Its a tactic to not drop a bombshell and give the perception that he's "weighing his options". Similar to how Fox News was considering ousting O'Reilly. It was evident that he was getting the boot, but they had to work out the legal and PR ramifications.
This is an inside-out case. Details have been known and under wraps for a while and the pressure seems to be coming from whomever in his own party is privy to the details. I dont expect a news story bombshell to drop, itll be more like when Jim McGreevey resigned as NJ's governor after being blackmailed by his secret gay partner's ex. He just showed up to a podium one day at the state house and announced his resignation, and also that he was having a gay affair. Really sucked too, he was a great governor and both elected governors after him ended up being corrupt AF (Corzine and Christie, Codey the replacement was legit)
Oh my god. I hope this is true.
Chaffetz has turned the Oversight Committee on its head. Instead of identifying government abuse and misapplications of taxpayer money, his Committee is committing abuse and is wasting taxpayer money. He is engaging in the very acts that he is charged with preventing.
He was expecting Hillary Clinton to win the election and he was going to spend the next few years running for governor on the back of BENGHAZZIIIII investigations that he bragged about having "lined up" in October
“It’s a target-rich environment,” the Republican said in an interview in Salt Lake City’s suburbs. “Even before we get to Day One, we’ve got two years’ worth of material already lined up. She has four years of history at the State Department, and it ain’t good.”
Then Trump won (after Chaffetz endorsed him) and Chaffetz bragged that he was still going to keep the investigations into Clinton going.
House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz on Monday said he intends to continue the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while Secretary of State, insisting, “just because there was a political election doesn’t mean it goes away.”
He recently said that the reason he wasn't interested in investigating Trump is that he can't be corrupt because he's rich.
In an interview with The Atlantic published on Friday, Chaffetz said that he didn’t think Trump could be abusing his office for financial gain because he’s already wealthy.
“He’s very rich,” Chaffetz said. “I don’t think that he ran for this office to line his pockets even more. I just don’t see it like that.”
Later, when asked about a deal between the family of Trump’s son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner and a Chinese insurance group (which was later canceled), Chaffetz dismissed the possibility of investigating it on the grounds that “I don’t see how that affects the average American and their taxpayer dollars. Just the fact that a staff person’s family is making money? It’s not enough.”
This smarmy fuck has spent the last year looking for any reason to step in front of a camera and grandstand. Now all of a sudden he is MIA. He tried to introduce legislation that would give federal land to the states for privatization and that flopped. And after he got his ass handed to him at his town hall he has pretty much been in hiding.
I really hope he has to resign in disgrace. After his unendorsement of Trump on moral grounds, then re-endorsement I really want Trump to be his downfall.
