I've been around Siamese cats for decades (and yes, it does take a particular set of personality quirks on both sides of the relationship for things to mesh). I still melt every time I see one. What a sweetie!
Although my mom spent much more time with Blue when I first adopted him, Blue chose me to be his servant. It's really interesting how they attach themselves to one person like that!
Here's a picture of my
I love Rey!😸
She had very early developmental issues/potential eye infections and they had to operate on her. She is the sweetest thing I've ever had in my life and I'm so grateful for her and her sister. :3
She loves you!
She is so precious 😍 what's her story?
This is a beautiful family!!
This is the finest type of excellence!
I would love to receive this as a Christmas card
Wow. I didn't think I needed this. Brb about to take a portrait with my cat!
Yeah, it's called point colouration and is due to a mutation in the gene that codes for an enzyme (tyrosinase) involved in melanin production.
The mutated enzyme is temperature sensitive and doesn't function at normal body temperature, so only becomes active in cooler areas of the skin which are the extremities of the body, i.e. the ears, nose, tail, paws.
In kittens, they have been in the womb which is a uniformly warm temperature so, it's not until they start growing older that the pigment for the darker fur starts to be produced as the extremities begin to cool down.
Also pointed cats in cooler climates will usually be darker than their fellow felines in warmer climates.
It's like having a built-in Hypercolor t-shirt!
We're in sunny California where it's never cold... Will he turn lighter over the summer months when it gets warmer?
Hmm, possibly although depending on factors like how much time he spends in shade/sun, his fur growth rate, etc.. it might take a few weeks to show.
But maybe other owners slaves 😼 of pointed kitties, like siamese & other similar orientals, will be able to answer that with more confidence!
Hold up--his name's Turkey-Shape Tuesday?!? 😄
If anyone wanted to see the brother here there are together.
They are both adorable and seem to have settled in nicely. You will love being a cat mom. Welcome to the club!
Those are some cute tabbies. And look at the ears food radar on Xerces!! You're never going to get the fridge open without him knowing. I'm convinced the sound of the door seal breaking is built into their core programming.
Both are gorgeous!!
That is definitely a calico. You got some XXY action going there.
one in a 3000 chance! take good care of that cute boy.
He looks calico to me too. I was thrown off a little at the vet's office because the receptionist wrote him down as tiger and white and the vet just looked baffled.
He's basically a shiny pokemon!
The shelter posted on social media, and we went to get her right away. We had to wait a few days to bring her home because she had to get fixed first. When we brought her home, it took her awhile to get used to her surroundings. A week later, she still won't be in the room without us. At 9 pm, she meows letting us know it's bedtime and that she wants to lay down with someone and cuddle. I have no idea of her life before we met her, but you can tell she is really happy to have a home and a loving family. Her name is Sophie.
UPDATE: Thanks for all the upvotes! Sophie is an amazing cat, here's a gallery for people that wanted more photos
As you can see, she seems to be a lot bigger than the first photo we took, I think she is getting bigger after her surgery and eating regularly... she seemed really skinny when we first got her, I know having a home is a lot less stressful than being at the shelter
Cutie! She'll grow into those whiskers!
yes, and she purrs a TON, most I've ever heard a cat purr and I grew up with cats
Yeah, we both lucked out. I have 2 little girls, and we had been holding off getting a pet for a long time, because we know the parents will be doing all the work. We saw the photo of Sophie and knew she was meant for us. She also helps everyone "chill out" and relax after a hard day of school/work. Definitely one of the best things to happen to us, and now I have 3 girls on father's day. :)
She's stopped panting and has fully recovered now 😊
When you're laser pointing, occasionally switch up or combine it with a physical toy. Cats enjoy catching as much as chasing, and a bit of grabbing and holding something can help keep them cooled down!
It doesn't necessarily mean it's a heart condition. All my cats have panted after a good play session, and none of them had/have any heart problems.
My cat goes crazy at the sound it makes when I pick the laser pointer up. He loves chasing it.
It doesn't look like he has the high ground
He's a bold one
Hello there! He seems pretty bold, and he probably wants to get to that higher ground. Let's hope if he ever falls off of anything he has a happy landing.
Jokes aside, he is cute <3
He has the high ground... in my heart.
And by that you mean she chose to honor your home with her majestic presence, right?
What an absolutely adorable little tiger!
But without the Nazis.
