I don't think some people realize how thoroughly the Detroit Tigers tanked at the end of last season.
At August 31, the Tigers:Had a 58-74 record Were 6 games ahead of the last place White Sox Were tied with the Padres with the projected 7th/8th picks in the June 2018 draft
Then they decided to trade Justin Verlander to the Astros.
What happened after that can only be described as one of those most effective tanking endeavors ever.
In September and October, the Tigers:Finished 6-24 Scored 107 runs and gave up 197 runs (this includes 2 games were they won by a combined 25-2) Got swept by the last place A's AT HOME Got swept in a 4-game home stand vs the Indians Got swept in another 4 game home stand vs the Twins
After all was said and done, they earned the #1 overall pick in the June draft. Simply unbelievable. Sometimes I think that MLB should do what the NBA does and take the bottom 8 (or so) teams and put them in a lottery. This wouldn't eliminate tanking, but it makes it a lot less effective.
Not that anyone necessarily needs this perspective, but if the Tigers played like that over the course of the whole season, they'd finish the year 33-129 and end up with the a winning percentage of .202--the fourth worst in MLB history.
I, for one, am looking forward to the 2018 Tigers season.
That's ridiculous...but the most incredible part of that stat is how .202 is ONLY THE FOURTH WORST EVER. What the absolute hell.
They also had Andrew Romine play all nine positions in a single game
that was on purpose though. The Cardinals owners bought the Spiders, then put all the good Cleveland players on the Cardinals and all the bad Cardinals on the Spiders. They also played something like 80% of the season on the road
I've always said Kevin Gausman is my side boo to the Mets rotation, and this made me love him more
I always thought of Roy as #32 as a Blue Jay but maybe because 32 was Wieters number. I wonder if that was a reason why he picked Roy's Phillies number. Or he really liked him during his Phillies tenure.
He was. Read the statement he posted in the tweet.
Might have been the fact it was Wieters' number. The last No. 32 of note here was Arrieta.
Away from Coors Field:
(2017) 3.49 ERA in 77.1 IP (2016) 1.69 ERA in 80 IP
It'll be interesting to see how he pitches away from the Rockies
Tyler Chatwood is tied for 2nd in the NL in road ERA over the last 2 seasons with Struasburg.
STOVE = ON
dodgers are such a fucking chad
Giants about to start complaining about how girls only like jerks.
In 2 hours:
[Rosenthal] No signs that Dodgers are pursuing Stanton. But seems as though he intends to hold out as long as possible just in case.
Giants finish last with a top payroll again. I'd be okay with that.
Those first three words are not appropriate to use together in Hot Stove season if you aren't discussing signings or trades mate
I've never really tried to understand what the signs were, I just accepted the players knew and moved on. This image is kind of a mind blow to me.
Is your username Anal OG Boy 56, or Analog Boy 56?

Give us all of your prospects
I'll fucking give up on mlb if those fucks get the fish faced fuck and steal ohtani from the mariners. Is Nascar fun?
In the pacific northwest
This could be the exact opposite of what everyone is thinking; the mariners pitch wasn’t strong enough so they’re trying to throw more money at otani in hopes of having him changing his mind
I wanna die if this is true
Big if true
Could very well have to do with Braves prospects. Remember, money is not the deciding factor for Ohtani.
Of course the Mariners are
Don't worry. We'll find a way to fuck this up
5 bucks its Taylor Motter
edit: i'm 5 dollars poorer
If Giants get both then God is fake
I’ve been abiding by the padres mantra to ‘Keep the faith’ for the entirety of my young, hot life. But if the Giants get away with both I will be torn down and disillusioned in such a way that James Cameron himself would have to dive into the Mariana Trench in order to lift my hopes up ever again.
You misspelled Stanton.
