Even the ability to choose which news sources to show would be a welcome change.
They probably won't do anything about it till the UI update.
It's especially silly because this isn't really news, it's just articles related to X game, which is fine if it's just a single article but seeing as you can only see 3 from your library, the fact that the 'news' section can just get overrun with opinion pieces is a bit much.
Or even just the ability to block specific news sources. I never want to see anything from RPS, but they seem to appear in almost every news feed for some reason.
i long for the day where decent VR is affordable
Well over time you will. Look at phones, the low end phones have similar specs and power and previous year flagships. Progress just takes time. My gen 1 iPod touch used to be top of the line, now look at it 10 years later.
Wow that would be very cool news if I had extra 1k$ cash and not an old ass pc with GTX 660
10 years later.
So, maybe just before I’m dead. Sign me up!
First year in 7 that I bought nothing!
ITT: last-minute shoppers butthurt that a two week long sale just ended.
What did you expect?
EDIT: I realize some of you got paid later, and yes, that really sucks. But still, you had time to plan ahead. Budgeting is your friend. At the start of the sale, I meticulously go over my wishlist and use Enhanced Steam to compare prices and such. I load all this stuff into an Excel spreadsheet. I fine tune this down to a science. I ensure I'm content with my catch, and buy it all just before the sale is over. Because of this, I own 1100 games now and likely need serious help...
Lol I was making my purchases at the last minute, it was 59 seconds to go when I realized my phone for steam guard was shut off. My phone took forever to turn on and the sale technically 'expired' but it still kept the prices for me when I logged in. Thanks gaben
28 games, controller+link, Steam Awards badge to level 100, Steam profile level went from 63 to 104. Success! If my wife asks, I spent $5.
I wonder how german players think about Wolfenstein series?
I am a player from China, people around me dont pay to much attention to history about Nazi, but japan more, i want to know if german players feel angry about this series?(just curiousness)
You're confusing Germans and Nazis.
Nationalism is strictly forbidden in modern Germany, read it up on Wikipedia. There's no reason for Germans to be angry about Wolfenstein series, as the bad guys are Nazis that happen to be Germans, not just the Germans in general.
Like, imagine Wolfenstein being some GTA clone, portraying modern Germany as a state full of Nazis and warmongering idiots. Now, that would upset some people (mainly because this is absurd and isn't true at all).
Source: I'm Russian and I have many friends in Germany.
I'm from Germany, and I don't care.
I'm German. We too enjoy some Nazi slaying from time to time ;)
Nationalism is not nazism...

Q1: When does the sale end?
The 2017 Steam Winter Sale ends on January 4th at 10am PST. Click here to convert this to your time if it isn't listed here.
Q2: Why won't the store load? Why are my download speeds so slow?
There is a heavy amount of traffic on Steam's servers. Both store and content servers. Give it some time and the servers should return to normal. Steam's server statuses can be found on the sidebar of the subreddit or here. If you're still having issues with your connection to Steam, please check out our Wiki page for troubleshooting steps.
Q3: I'm new to Steam! Where do I begin?
Welcome! Please read our Welcome to Steam page in our Wiki.
Q4: Are the prices consistent throughout the sale?
For the most part, yes, since there are no more Flash Sales or Daily Deals. It is up to the developer and/or publisher if they want to make any changes to their price. Most will leave it, but some may have to correct the price or put something on sale if it wasn't flagged.
Q5: Can I share games that I bought with family or friends?
Yes, you can do this through Steam Family Share. Keep in mind that games that you have bought are tied to your account. They cannot be transferred or exchanged between accounts.
Q6: Why is adding gifts to my inventory not an option? What is it about that I can't gift someone due to the difference in pricing between countries?
Steam did a major rework to gifting back in May of this year. You can find more details about this in the official blog post.
Q7: Can games be cheaper on other sites during the sale? What sites should I check?
Yes, games can be cheaper on other sites during the Steam Sale. Here is our list of safe sites to buy Steam keys from. There are many sites that sell Steam keys that practice in shady business, we recommend you only use the sites listed in that wiki page.
For more information regarding key re-sellers please read this wiki page.
Q8: My Wallet/Gift Card code is damaged and I can't redeem it! What do I do?
If your Wallet/Gift Card code is damaged, or otherwise can't be redeemed you need to contact Steam Support with a picture of the card.
Please note: If your code is printed directly on a receipt Steam is unable to assist you, you'll need to return to the store you purchased it from for help.
Q9: I don't like the game I purchased, a game I purchased a few days ago is cheaper now, can I refund it?
Yes, you can refund games on Steam, even if you bought a game a few days ago and you want to re-purchase it during the Sale to get it for less.
To refund a game you cannot have more than 2 hours of playtime in it, and you cannot have owned it for longer than 14 days. If you have owned a game for 15 days and have 2 hours and 30 minutes of playtime you cannot refund it.
Please note: Approved refunds can take up to 7 days to appear in your account – however, refunds to international payment methods may take longer. If your refund hasn’t appeared after 7 days, please contact your bank directly and ask about pending refunds on your account.

For a suppose winter sale it's really underwhelming tbh... the store looks more bland than ever.
Am I the only one around here to find hardly any deals this time around and most seem to not go above 50%?
Remember when Steam Winter Sale would be on most games with some 75% off....? Pepperidge Farm remembers
Sure are a lot of underwhelming 10% and 15% discounts... Bummer.
I just want to let people know that Humble is having a big winter sale, as well. Some games are cheaper over there than on Steam currently. I got Tyranny for $16 on Humble, but it's $18 on Steam. Hollow Knight is also a dollar cheaper on Humble versus Steam.
Wtf its already been a full minute and no steam sale?
That's it - I'm moving to Uplay!
I'm throwing money at the screen but it's not working!
Said no one, ever.
If I remember correctly the dev himself has said that knowing it's a horror VN isn't a spoiler.
It's really the only reason a lot of people are going to play this in the first place. Plus, even this post is a spoiler.
While I do agree with you, it's also in the tags ("Psychological Horror" is the very first one) and the description ("This game is not suitable for children or those who are easily disturbed"). There is no way you're buying this game without knowing what's going to happen.
Yup. Besides, the store page already says "Psychological Horror" and has the content warnings. You are well aware of it when you choose to play it.
I love how this is tagged as a suggestion.
And if you don't have anyone particular in mind then you can just trade it to your friend.
Nah. I'll just wait to get it at 75% in the next sale.
And then hope you didn't do anything your friend secretly hates you for in the past.
Didn't we do this last year? And valve like ignored us?
Didnt we do that every time we got the chance?
Yeaaahhh BUT I'd rather get Portal 3
Can't wait for Half-Life 2 Episode 2 Part 2
"Please enter a category suggestion" when nominating a game for the "Defies Description" award on steam
is this just me?
The award nomination appears to be working now.
nope, same here
They forgot to update the code from last year https://github.com/SteamDatabase/SteamTracking/blob/81bdd6ed0290cba35c78561bb90a9084f67dc761/Scri...
Same here... Last year it was the same, but they fixed it in ~8h after sale is started
