TIL Brendan has an outtie belly button
Learned that myself
I can't believe I've never seen this gem of a picture before
Here's a link to the interview:
TL:DR, Brendan was the victim of sexual assault by Philip Berk, a former president of the HFPA.
What happened? what is the situation?
I thought he might have done something.
Ah well it's good this comes to light, lets see what comes off it, thanks
Wtf Hollywood. Also, I was sexually abused by my high school boyfriend. For those of you who have been hurt: I highly recommend at least talking to a therapist, if not seeing one regularly. I started seeing one a year ago and it's helped so much.
Two great men sharing solidarity with one another and attacking the system which made them feel less than human. Can we make this a movie please? And can we have them star as themselves?
We gotta get these two together! I sense a fantastic friendship is possible.
Of all people to give a human face to what is absolutely not just a feminine issue, I just hate that it has to be him.
it's absolutely terrible to read. to be fair, terry crews really kind of did this first---but these accounts are incredibly important if we want to change how the sexual assault of men is treated by our society.
It's definitely not an exclusively woman issue, it's a people one, with roots in dominance, power and the desire to subjugate that which threatens you most (be that a person, sex or simply your own desire).
r/SAVEBRENDAN should be in solidarity with r/CrewsCrew in believing and supporting men who speak out about their experiences with sexual assault
In the GQ interview that is going viral this morning, Brendan recounts the following experience:
On Fraser's way out of the hotel, he was hailed by Philip Berk, a former president of the HFPA. In the midst of a crowded room, Berk reached out to shake Fraser's hand. Much of what happened next Berk recounted in his memoir and was also reported by Sharon Waxman in The New York Times: He pinched Fraser's ass—in jest, according to Berk. But Fraser says what Berk did was more than a pinch: “His left hand reaches around, grabs my ass cheek, and one of his fingers touches me in the taint. And he starts moving it around.” Fraser says that in this moment he was overcome with panic and fear.
As we honor our hero and savior from many beloved films of the 1990's and 2000's including The Mummy and Encino Man, we also should support his act of courage in coming forward about this experience. His assaulter Philip Berk has faced virtually no consequences of his actions, while Brendan's career suffered in the backlash he got for doing nothing but telling the truth.
The experience, he says, “made me retreat. It made me feel reclusive.” He wondered if the HFPA had blacklisted him. “I don't know if this curried disfavor with the group, with the HFPA. But the silence was deafening.” Fraser says he was rarely invited back to the Globes after 2003.
Let's let Brendan know that he has our unwavering confidence and support 100% in speaking and living his TRUTH. Let's also let the world know that sexual assault is never OK, regardless of whether it's against a man or a woman, and that there WILL be consequences for those who dare to fuck with our boy Fraiser.
The good people of /sub/crewscrew have done a tremendous job upholding and shining a spotlight on Terry and his experiences. Let's take a page from their book and support Brendan in his time of need.
/sub/savebrendan stands in solidarity with all victims of sexual assault. This is a good idea.
You and the mods of /sub/crewscrew should do a joint mod post on the subject. It would be awesome for both subs.
Also Terry and Brendan should do a buddy/comedy film together. They both have so much charisma and integrity that they bring to the screen, it would be a great dynamic. They could donate the profits of the film to organizations that support survivors of sexual assault.
I know Brendan doesn't really visit this sub, but if he did I would hope he would see our unwavering support and be into the idea of working with Terry.
Sexual assault is about power, not sex. It's easier to understand when you look at it that way with men. The guy wasn't so much "copping a feel" as he was asserting his power over Brendan to stifle him. I hate that guy. Same with Terry.
I want to see Brendan and Terry reenact the handshake from Predator (Arnie and Creed)
Let’s get these two in an action adventure flick!
He’s literally top of ALL right now.
It's like you don't even want to save Brendan.
He’s on /sub/all right now
MRW I realize God-Emperor Brendon WILL be on the front page again soon.
He is rn. The frontest of the pages.
We did it fellas, I'm thinking he's back
I love Brendan.
But GOD DAMN do I miss the RATED R SUPERSTAR!!!!!
Fuck. Can we get these two in a movie together? I think they could have great chemistry!
Now I am off to watch some Rated R Superstar.
When his episodes of The Affair began airing, in late 2016, Fraser was asked to give his first interview in years, for AOL's YouTube channel. It is an uncomfortable watch. Fraser seems morose and sad; for much of it, he speaks in a near whisper. The video went viral. In the months that followed, theories sprang up about what ailed him, focusing on his 2009 divorce and the fact that two franchises he'd once starred in, The Mummy and Journey to the Center of the Earth, had been rebooted and recast without him.
As it turns out, what was behind the sad Brendan Fraser meme was…sadness. His mother had died of cancer just days before the interview. “I buried my mom,” Fraser says.
This really shows how cruel the internet can be with memes.
But clearly, it had been a bad decade: “I changed houses; I went through a divorce. Some kids were born. I mean, they were born, but they're growing up. I was going through things that mold and shape you in ways that you're not ready for until you go through them.”
Fraser pauses, and his eyes seem to well up, and for the first time in this litany of surgeries and loss, he seems like he might not want to continue. I ask if he needs a break.
“I'm okay,” he says. “I think I just need to let some arrows fly.”
He excuses himself as I ponder what this means. A few minutes go by. When he returns, it's with a leather quiver full of arrows strapped to his back. He steps out onto his porch. Outside, he lofts a bow, nocks an arrow. Down below on his lawn, maybe 75 yards away, is an archery target. He releases the arrow straight into the target's center. Bull's-eye. Then nocks a second arrow, and does it again.
Finally, he exhales. “I feel a lot better now,” he says. He hands me the bow: “Okay, now you try.”
Well that is a formidibly impressive way to collect one’s emotions.
This is our post-postmodern star. In the world or Rick & Morty and Bojack, we have created a need for this man. He did what was expected of him, he did what he should have done and he found himself. He has returned to us as we all are, broken, scared, and strong enough to do it is a safe and healthy way.
We don't care about your shortcomings, Brendan. We only care about you.
When I read the sentence "I need to let some arrows fly" I thought it was some sort of saying like he needed a break or something, I didn't expect literal arrows flying lmao
Mods pin this. Really, a great article.
Hundred and ten percent!
“You hope to play good, you want to play good, and I think we played pretty good tonight”
Eliot Richards, spitting glass at your ass
THE BRENAISSANCE IS HERE
Gotta hand it to Brendan here. After that awful divorce, a broken back, man layed low and plotted his comeback. Lesser mortals would have given up and accepted their fate. Go Brendan!
WE DID IT REDDIT
He is risen.
