Yikes, that drone escort in POE is awful

I love plains of Eidolon so far. Everything about it has given me a new purpose and things to do in Warframe, but what I don't love is escorting that dumb little drone 600M through ugly-infested fields.

It has no defenses, so it jjust sits there and dies because it doesn't bother to try and seek cover, but moves just often enough that a frost bubble is ineffective.

Those flying grineer are nigh-impossible to hit without a hitscan weapon, effectively deciding what weapon you're going to use for you.

Bounties don't allow you to queue up so you have to find a squad prior or you're plum out of luck. Really sucks to have to fight off the hordes alone.

Enemies attack it from so far away that I sometimes find myself unable to see where it's getting attacked from.

My new hatred is Bombards half a mile away hiding in the grass lobbing missiles in with perfect accuracy.

It's actually terrible. Escort missions are cancer. I don't understand why they decided to make one.

Ivara is amazing if you have her.

Stick a cloak arrow on that thing and it will be the easiest mission you will have done ;)

YOU SPELL RHINO WRONG

The knock-down in Plains is astonishing. I'm never taking off Atlas again.

You're asking why people, who made defecation make more shitty disliked missions?

Keep yourself close to the drone. Make sweet love to it as you both run through the meadows and on the hills and through the valleys. I find the drone is more responsive when it's creeped the fuck out

Don't forget those perpendicular flying grineer bathtubs from Archwing that you have to aim up for so your attention is divided between them and the small army of grineer on the ground.

a bird of prey lobbing bombs from the sky

most american frame to date

They are fast, very rarely die / get hit

This is the opposite of my experience, where the drone decides to sit still in a field while getting sniped by Bombards hidden in the grass 200m away and pummeled by constant airstrikes from Ogmas. I haven't had a single escort work out so far (though presumably Limbo or Ivara could do it easily, but I haven't got them).

EDIT: to be clear, I was standing literally right next to the thing, it just seems to have been broken

Can you limbo cheese it?

Drones are the best escort i've ever had to do. They are fast, very rarely die / get hit and i can ignore absolutely everything and sprint with the drone for a minute to completion.

As far as I'm concerned the Incursion Drone's don't even work.

Each one I've tried has simply flown the wrong direction until it eventually stops.

As someone who has mained Rhino/Rhino Prime for damn near four years, what are knockdowns?

The lower level missions are actually harder because the drone doesn’t seem to have very good scaling. In the lower level bounties the drone gets demolished by the drop ship fire and one time it meandered by a fortress and aggroed a bunch of turrets.

Almost all of the missions have terrible pacing where you are subjected to nonstop waves of enemies too. The amount of stuff that gets spawned is pretty incredible even solo on the lower level missions.

Escort is horrible. As if we have not had enough of it with rescue and defection.

I especially love when doing an incursion and the drone decides to run away from the objective.

I would prefer to knock the damn thing out, put it on my back, incur a movement penalty like a hobbled dragon key does and crawl there myself.

Beyond that drone trick, Ivara seems to be great in the plains overall:

Prowl to find caches

Kill bosses with Artemis Bow

Kill flying enemies with Navigator (if you didnt like Navigator before, give it a new try now, it really comes into its own in the plains where you dont get stuck in walls)

Sleep Nox/Shieldbearers and take them out

Ivara+max fire rate Opticor makes for a deadly sewing machine. Needles. Needles everywhere. Armored porcupines flying left and right. The drone was fine.

The best part of Ivara is knowing you can never fail a solo spy sortie again

What's this? You can't just steamroll it with any frame? You actually have to pick appropriate tools for the job?

I've been using Oberon almost exclusively in the Plains so far, but he's been having some serious issues.

His 2, the grass carpet, is supposed to give him the ability to strip armor with his 4, gain armor with his 3, irradiate enemies, and have status immunity including knockdown immunity. But the terrain just does not register the ability, even on flat surfaces, even on grineer floor panels the ability is glitchy.

He'd be my perfect frame for the plains if his 2 actually worked.

Wasn't a problem for Zephyr, floating above like bird of prey with a tonkor.

Defecation? lol

I've been getting a bug where it goes in the opposite direction from the waypoint, finds a spot that it's happy with, and then sits and stares at the grass until we give up.

DE plz

Use Oberon. Activate Renewal (with decent HP regen rate/power strength) after you activate the drone and it'll become virtually unkillable. I also toss down Hallowed Ground even though I'm not sure if it gets the armor bonus.

All you need to do is keep at the drone's pace and just shoot whatever you're running past; don't stop to clear everything, as long as the drone's moving it'll be fine. On around the 3/4/5 bounties, you'll also have virtually unlimited energy so long as you have Rage.

He's not the easiest to do the 'Defend the vault console' thing, but if you spam out enough Hallowed Grounds he can manage and keep it at a safe HP level the whole way through. You'll also manage to keep your sentinel alive slightly longer than it would have otherwise (god damn all those explosive weapons absolutely murder my sentinels).

R I M O

Defection missions. Affectionately called Defecation by people that had to do way too many of them for the event that introduced them, or Harrow farming. Myself included.

Emphasis on make sweet love to it, just.. Don't do anything else and block any and all bullets hitting the drone.

After playing more, all the drone escorts i've found randomly in the plains have all been broken, ones from bounty missions have all worked flawlessly.

Because you've done all of them enough to know them like the back of your hand

The trouble is getting back down once you ramp off the top. It's just like, shit, how did I get on Lua?

you aren't following it close enough. Even on the level 60 bounties that's the shortest mission as long as you just sprint after it. 60s and it's over.

it just moves forward at about the pace of a warframe sprint if you're somewhat close to it. I just go loki invis near it and then kill enemies that get close and i've never struggled with it.

seriously I just cheesed this on my first try with a mediocre duration Nova.

I mean I almost got my shit kicked in / ran out of revives because I went in completely blind but the drone still had maybe 40% health by the time I completed the segment. It was hard but nothing I would consider complaint worthy. If anything the challenge was refreshing.

I hated them at first but so far I'm 3/3 on the hardest difficulty. What I ended up doing is using this Loki build. This allows me to disarm everyone and have them fight among themselves, which without killing X amount of enemies you don't trigger additional ships to come and drop off more enemies. So far the only enemy I have to worry about is the Dargyns that show up. I haven't had the problems I had before with being too close to a Grineer encampment and having them shoot mortars, but with that build I would expect to be able to leave the drone and go take care of the mortar without issue.

That build also works nicely for defending the "vault" as you can just disarm everyone and run around in circles as they chase you (or caste Irradiating Disarm again to make them fight each other again).
