When you wanted to play Doom but your parents were too strict, you got this gem.

When you wanted to play Doom but your parents were too strict, you got this gem.

Fun Fact: did you know this game is still available? you can find the downloads easily, AND there is a remaster being made in unreal engine 4.

Hey sorry to hijack but is there also one for that toy story computer game where u play as buzz and u have to find a lot of coins through Andy's house and have to fight some toys? All I distinctly remember is that, and the girl shepherd was on top of the ceiling fan.

Aww yeah, Chex Quest. Always preferred Doom myself (I mean, who wouldn't!) but Chex was really fun for the limited amount of time I played it for.

I think it was just called toy story 2, I know exactly what you're talking about though!

Yea dude. You go outside. That's where you can race the little RC car. There's also a mission that sends you to scale the tall tree and then make it into the neighbors backyard. I remember my younger brother getting this game for Xmas when I was probably 12 and he was 8. It was surprisingly fun and could be pretty tricky at times. Thanks for the tip down memory lane.

Who knew a cereal company could make such a good game.

Whi knew a cereal company would hire a guy and make such a great game.

Doom is just a shitty Chex Quest copy

Please tell me u could beat the game and go outside, because I could never beat the basement/attic stage. It was crazy hard for a 6 year old

le gem ๐Ÿ’Ž๐Ÿ’Ž๐Ÿ’Ž๐Ÿ’Ž๐Ÿ’Ž๐Ÿ’Ž๐Ÿ’Ž

This was actually a pretty well done game for a cereal box giveaway.

epic background music

My parents were very against violent shooters back then and this was the only one I could play. I must have rep'd this game twenty times, experimenting with all the cheat codes, finding every single hidden room... Good times.

My favorite experience looking back was that on perhaps the 15th play through, I discovered that I could start an MP3 playing in Windows, drop back to DOS, boot this game, and resume but with .

My dad once "caught" me playing like this, blowing away Flemoids with my high powered Zorch bazooka (#7, I think?) while that song was playing at full blast...

He was seriously worried he'd raised a psychopath.

Good times.

Edit: Apparently my memory has faded and it wouldn't have been possible run MP3 software when dropped to DOS. Either I had put in the CD to play the music in hardware, or this story comes from after we'd upgraded to Win 98 and I'd been playing it in the shell instead. You win, Reddit. You win.

You get even farther away from the house than that don't you? I swear I remember running around a construction site.

Yes! And there was that rainy back alley level that killed my framerate everytime.

I actually had DOOM but wanted this because all the people at school were playing it. I didn't want my Mom to know that I wanted cereal just for a video game so I pretended I was trying to be healthy and wanted Chex for breakfast in the mornings but the price of actual Chex was too high so my mom bought the generic brand and I had to eat that and got no video game.

Technically, the game is actually DOOM just with modified assets. If you dig into it, the assets from the original game are still there just never used.

They didn't, they hired a guy to make it for them, using the Doom engine.

Edit: My mistake, they commissioned a guy to make it for them, not an in-house employee.

I guess you could say that boss fight turned your frame rate to GARBAGE bum dum tissss

(cuz he was made of trash)

Hell yeah! Doom when my parents were out. Anyone remember the name of the electric spork in Chex?

I must have gotten a corrupted download when i tried to get it online a few years ago. After all the brightly colored flemoids and happy graphics, i looked through a window and saw a couple flayed bodies. Eventually things just completely blended and there were bright colors and flying skulls at the same time attacking me.

seemed like a fucked up trip but was still wildly entertaining

ZDoom-compatible WAD straight from the developer here.

He polished the first two games and finished the trilogy.

GOOD point

My mom shit a brick when I got to the knee deep in the dead load screen. It wouldn't open it but you could easily get the screen. Bonus was the doom cheat codes worked, if i remember correctly.

Good enough for me to beat it. Actually pretty legit.

A company making something and a company hiring someone to make something is the same thing.

"Companies" don't do anything. They hire people to do things.

Gamecast

Holy fuck. It WASN'T a dream. I remember playing this game when I was younger and eventually losing the disc. As I got older, I would ask my friends about it but everyone thought I was making it up. I eventually started questioning whether or not it was actually real and then forgot about it.

I'm getting flashbacks of Cap'n Crunch Chrunchling Adventure looking at this.

Bootspork!!! Maybe super but now I remember saying bootspork way more than any human most likely. Thank You!!!

And then there was that giant jackhammer at the top. Jeez you guys are bringing back some real memberberries.

Yep. You have to get into one of the construction campers at one point and then you have to scale the steel scaffolding as well. Getting to the top was a bit of a frikkin chore.

I preferred this to Doom actually.

My parents are dead

Good job

RIP

Lawd, the nostalgia.

This game was like dark souls for 8 year old me. So difficult with punishing checkpoints.

True. Still better than half the "Alpha" stuff being sold on Steam as 20% complete and never get finished.

Noooope. Also has a toy store, an apartment, and the airport. Ah, nostalgia.

Well there's Gamecube, and then there's Dreamcast....

what about noahs 3d ark, that one is remastered, checks is not.

oh yeah baby....wall of slime ftw

Was it Super Bootspooner?

This comment was inevitable and I am glad for it to be here. Something we can rely on in these chaotic times!

Noah's ark was based on the Wolfenstein engine, while it appears Chex is Doom.

Life is peachy, go bananas no one will care! I almost spit out my coffee imagining your story after hearing that song.

pwned

the girl shepherd

Little Bo Peep?

Holy shit, are you serious? I have so many fond memories of this game. I am all over that.

Jesus Christ, the waves of nostalgia. I feel like Thailand in 2004.

Is no-one going to mention which 'tentacle' the alien on the far right is using to shoot at the guy?

That sounds awesome. I want somebody to intentionally make a game like that. Get some of the guys from twin peaks and other weird ass media to make it as strange as possible.

Holy Crap Chex Quest was fantastic.

I'll just drop this here

Chex Quest 3 download (full game also includes parts 1 and 2) http://www.chucktropolis.com/gamers.htm

I can still hear the "bah" the dudes make when you catch them off guard. I mean I quote it when the opportunity comes up. Never had anyone realize what it was though.

More than any human? Challenge accepted, sir.

...Because I spent the first two years of college setting up dorm room ChexQuest LAN parties, not because i'm going to spend 8 hours alone in my room chanting bootspork.

Wasn't there this thing where you had to mix paint, around that part of the game?

And here i thought the CEO sat down and programmed himself a game

"I'm from Chex Squadron!

And IIIIIIIIIII volunteer..."

armor slides shut

Such an awesome time playing this.

I remember the day I pulled it out of the cereal box! My brother an I were in disbelieve, who gives away free games?? We did not think it would work, or that it was gonna be too cheesy. It was impressive and since we were already dominating on doom we just moved right over.

Been looking for games in cereal boxes ever since.

Was that the one where you train up a little monster thing and compete in Olympics-style games?

This ruined my day

rekt

What, the Chainspork, as I call it? :D I don't think it had a name. Cool game!

I heard Doom was still around too tho.

I feel like some kind of astronaut coming back from outside to tell you it does exist

It helped that they didn't have to make the game.

So all these times we've been saying It's just a shitty doom clone, we really meant to say......

It's just a shitty Chex Quest Clone?

OH NO WAY DUDE I REMEMBER THAT GAME

Dude this sounds amazing. Some really overly happy, bright, uplifting game, that starts blending in with a super gory, scary, depressing, and extra scary game.

Edit: I was wrong, apparently the game has quite a few stages following the construction site.

Your correct. I just replayed it on my ps vita maybe a month ago and I think the construction site might be the last stage. So many hours spent in andys house on the demo I had when I was a kid

I could never beat that level. Now as an adult I can play it again and rage properly.

Didn't that involve finding a bunch of buckets of paint or something?

Someone recommended that to me as an adult and that was a freaking blast.

and now we can finally play Chex Quest 2 and 3!

Noahs Ark 3D is really really bad, and I love it. Pure propaganda!

Ahh those non-offensive games were fun. I liked the Nerf game that was built off of UT'99

Yup, then you went to the arcade to fight yourself...

I played Chex Quest but never played Doom. Is CQ a complete copy in terms of level layout and everything, just with different sprites and assets?

I always thought it was a new game in the Doom "engine", but originally designed.

Airport is the last stage if i recall

Well, the Joker IS a cereal killer...

Those were some hardcore beats

OH MY GOD THE NOSTALGIA MY BRAIN IS EXPLODING ALL THE MEMORIES ALL THE FEELS gondorcallsforaid.rar

Also, Chex Quest came out in 96

Batman?

Pretty sure you wind up going to all the places from the movie; An Airport, the Toy Store, the creepy guy's Apartment, etc.

Great game, I remember being blown away at how well designed it was even as a young kid. Was my favorite game for years back in the day

I believe there was a toy store and a airport level as well.

This guy zorches.

I had that game on the Nintendo 64. It was hard, but I loved it when I was a kid.

Jesus fucking christ, kid.

Are you fucking with me?

A picture of a game cover with the word 'gem' in the title?

Are you trolling? Because holy fuck. What a shitty piece of noncontent this is

HEI GAIZ DU U REMEMBER LES CHEX QUEST LELEL KEKE?

Sadly, I never made it that far.

iirc you could copy over the doom shareware files and play the full doom just chex themed

OK. I was always under the impression that they reused levels as well. Thanks for clearing that up, I love Doom so I will have to try this game now.

Holy hell guys! I had no idea so many had even heard of this! I figured I was the one loser out there playing this and those Taco Bell floppy disks for my childhood gaming.

Nah man the original doom is lost in the 1s and 0s of the late 1990's

No. The levels were their own design as were the characters. They just replaced maps and sprites/sounds in the game.
