“Any of you care to explain what happened here?Anybody?!”

I SAID NO POLITICAL PARTYS

"Obama did it!"

Thanks, Obama!

Gilbert Stuart, c.1796, "The Landsdowne Portrait" hangs in a public area of The White House. One of the last State Portraits of Washington, done near the end of his second term as president, the pose was meant to reference Classical Greek and Roman sculptures.

I mean, everyone says that but the way the Constitution is it sorta makes them a thing. Now if we got voting reform that would be dope

"Look what you've done. LOOK AT IT"

“Guys? What the fuck?”

remember the alamobama

Good bot.

Except the parties that are able to do it have no interest in doing it, they would only lose power. Things are going to have to get considerably more terrible before we see major change.

"The shit I went through and they put me on the $1 bill????"

Are you sure about that? Because I am 100.0% sure that ladykatey is not a bot.

Good User!

Good bot.

Banning political parties altogether is pretty much impossible. How do you define a political party? Wikipedia says: "A political party is a group of people who come together to contest elections and hold power in the government." You can't make groups of people illegal. You can't make friendship between people of similar views illegal.

A millennia?

What did you do with all my plantation workers!?

I can’t wait for the reddit singularity, where more bots are responding to user comments than humans are

Money in politics :(

I’ve always thought of that as a more symbolic thing. A $1 bill is the most basic of paper money and is very common to the everyday person. I.e. the first president/founding father is the most commonly-seen face on currency for the average person.

Yes. Just like I live in an apartments, where I'm currently packing for a vacations. Later, I might watch a movies.

Madison wrote about this in Federalist No.10 and basically said something similar. Factions are inevitable.

It was already like that, I swear!

I think our country is actually doing fairly well.

This is how I see it. He's not less important, he's more prevalent.

I can just hear him saying "WTF is this mess."

Technically speaking he freed his slaves in his will

WHO THE FUCK NAMED IT THE FEDERAL RESERVE IF ITS A PRIVATE CORPORATION!?

Uh umm w-well I don't uh. ;-;

That is a face of pure disappointment

Equaling “capitalism isn’t perfect” with “communism is good” isn’t gonna work either. It only shows that you don’t know any shit.

Yup. Factions are inevitable, but Madison (and the rest of them, really) were more concerned with an imbalance of power, extremism, and a breakdown of communication between factions.

Imbalance of Power

Supermajorities were set up that way because no one expected them to be a common thing. Congress was supposed to function through compromise, and through by and large party-line votes, with a handful of votes from "defectors." This would encourage consensus legislation that benefited the nation over the party.

Extremism

Factionalism was inevitable, but it was hoped that the populace would act as a moderating influence on their parties, so as to continue the spirit of bipartisan consensus that ratified the Constitution in the first place. Parties that diverged to an extreme degree would have been a major problem, as this would not only deadlock the government, but also lead to some group being unrepresented by the shifting parties.

Breakdown of Communication

A natural result of extremism, a breakdown of communication between the parties would lead to virtually no consensus in government, as well as encouraging voters to elect a large bulk of Representatives from one party only, and to not view candidates by their policy, as they should have. This would lead to an imbalance of power in the Federal Government, and would encourage partisan legislation that benefited the party over the nation, something very much not in the spirit of '87.
Ben Franklin standing behind him listening to you explain yourself like, Mhm.

Ben Franklin standing behind him listening to you explain yourself like,

They wouldn't like a black man running the country but they also wouldn't like trump because of his stupidity and vulgarity.

Everyone kind of assumes here that the founding fathers would have been congenial to the direction Obama was taking America and would hate Trump more. I'm not really so sure, they would probably think that even Trump is too liberal.

George Washington (the man in the meme) was a straight up slave owners.

Ben Franklin openly called not only for an ethnostate, but was even racist to other Europeans who weren't Anglo enough:

Which leads me to add one Remark: That the Number of purely white People in the World is proportionably very small. All Africa is black or tawny. Asia chiefly tawny. America (exclusive of the new Comers) wholly so. And in Europe, the Spaniards, Italians, French, Russians and Swedes, are generally of what we call a swarthy Complexion; as are the Germans also, the Saxons only excepted, who with the English, make the principal Body of White People on the Face of the Earth. I could wish their Numbers were increased. And while we are, as I may call it, Scouring our Planet, by clearing America of Woods, and so making this Side of our Globe reflect a brighter Light to the Eyes of Inhabitants in Mars or Venus, why should we in the Sight of Superior Beings, darken its People? why increase the Sons of Africa, by Planting them in America, where we have so fair an Opportunity, by excluding all Blacks and Tawneys, of increasing the lovely White and Red? But perhaps I am partial to the Complexion of my Country, for such Kind of Partiality is natural to Mankind.

Even things like women being allowed to vote would have been unimaginably liberal to them.

More like “holy shit my system of government is around and the British fucking Empire is no more”

Also “wtf is radio?”

It will be a glorious day for us bots indeed.

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure

Thomas Jefferson, November 13, 1787

A millenium is 1,000 years. Millennia is plural.

Poor people still exist! There are a non-zero number of people who are unhappy! Can't you tell that this world is just a dystopian wasteland?

But, but...DRUMPF!

I mean yes, yes it is. Years from now people will call you a piece of shit for eating killed animals instead of the much more civilized "daily pill of nutrition," but they will still respect those who worked towards that future.

Don't even get him started on the "Patriot" act.

WHY ARE YOU YELLING FELLOW HUMAN?

money

Fixed that.

These guys were hopeful America could survive as an independent nation. We've gone farther than they could have ever imagined.

According to contemporaries, Washington wished for a future when there was no slavery in the USA, but only after the slaves could "perceive the obligations of a state of freedom". John Bernard, an English actor who recounted a meeting with Washington, quoted him as saying

Not only do I pray for it, on the score of human dignity, but I can clearly foresee that nothing but the rooting out of slavery can perpetuate the existence of our union, by consolidating it in a common bond of principle.

'Member when Obama was going to take everyone's guns and then never leave office?

Doesn't sound so bad now, does it?

"I'm not mad. I am just disappointed."

I'd take Mo' 'Bama instead of Mo' Trump

To play devil's advocate, it's kind of hard to actually get anything done when when your opposition is in control of the legislature and has a strict policy of "fuck that guy in the Oval Office, he ain't muh President!"

It'll likely be the same thing Trump will face after 2018. American politics is...rather ridiculous. It's 75% media and 25% actual governing. Sad!

3deep5me

and commoners can vote, even the women. Disgraceful.

HAHA, A URINATION JOKE.

Yeah, he would be devistated to find out there is no slavery anymore.

Not all of them were racist. People like Hamilton probably would have not seen the other's issues with it, but most of them wouldn't like it.

Also, none of them would like Trump, but it probably wouldn't have anything to do with his intelligence or political views. It would have to do with the mess of corruption and self-serving that is Trump's administration.

This is almost as bad as alobama in the 50's

The American voting system is such that it's mathematically inevitable for no more than two major parties to function.

If I remember correctly, Thomas Jefferson hated Andrew Jackson because he was brash and vulgar.

Trump seems to adore Jackson.

Edit: found a quote

"I am much alarmed at the prospect of seeing General Jackson become President. He is one of the most unfit men I know of for such a place. He has very little respect for laws or Constitutions."

Yeah we've had way worse times.

I don't think our founding fathers knew how first-past-the-post system would affect the metagame. Sometimes you only find out this kind of shit once you start playtesting and by then it's too late to change it.

The Hell's Angels are a group of friends who engage in overt criminal activity, which is different from a political party which uses the law to shield their criminal activities.

Ben Franklin be like " where dem thots at"

They probably knew it would happen, much like they predicted everything else we'd eventually do. They were smarter than you, bucko.

Oh you are a silly ones.

Capitalism

Edit:

You know what would be really incredible, is if we accepted the fact that there are no perfect set of rules to live by, and that regardless of our foundation we will only see peace and weed out corruption through constant adaptation and diligence.

Then again, we have a nation full of people who can only see black or white, red or blue, communist or capitalist.

For some reason people on Reddit seem to only care about the negatives of this administration and not the positives. During the Obama administration, people on Reddit seemed to ignore all the bad stuff he did.

> calling yourselves a civilized country when the only empire you can compare yourselves favorably to is the Mongolians

Your inability to understand that this man lived over two hundred years ago makes me cringe. Its embarrassing you feel okay to share your opinions.

Are these the men with which I have to defend America?

Washington's unusually clenched facial expression comes from his famous false teeth... Stuart wro...

He's not angry at you, he's disappointed.

I mean, they did their best. You can future proof your government as much as you want, but anticipating for stuff almost 300 years later is nigh impossible to do. I'll give 'em credit, the means of change is possible, but ever SINGLE American has to be for this change.

Hahaha, the founding Fathers were highly educated. They would tar and feather Trump.

On a vaguely related note, it’s weird to think we don’t know what most historical figures sounded like. Granted it’s not the most important information, but still weird.

Equating anti-capitalism with "edginess" is not gonna work. It only shows that you don't know any shit.

/sub/totallynotrobots is leaking

Just one more solid party in the mix would be fantastic. I don't even care if I totally disagree with them, anything is better than only two parties that are diametrically opposed. Ideally we'd have a handful of parties. I feel like a system like that would scare off the average voter, though. Americans can understand blue vs. red, idk if we as a whole would be willing to try to understand much more.

Yup. He's on both the dollar and the quarter, two of the most used US currencies.

No TWO Party system, important distinction. Political parties are a natural extension of any political system.

Aaaaw, I member!!

And memba the laziest person ever?

I'm a bot bleep bloop | Block me | Contact my master or go here for suggestions and/or death threats

If a third party were to come up it would draw support away from the party most similar to it. You see this with the Green Party and the Democratic Party. Most people who would vote for Green Party candidates are left leaning environmentalists. They are far closer on the political spectrum to the Democrats than the Republicans. Suppose the Green Party where to get 30% of the vote in the next presidential election. If this happened it's likely because a massive amount of Democrats defected to vote Green because there are currently very few left leaning environmentalists in the Republican Party. The result of this election may likely be 45% Republican 30% Green and 25% Democratic. In this reality most people would have voted for a left wing party with pro environmentalist policies but it's the right wing party without pro environmentalist policies which would win the election.

This is why Republican governors and secretaries of state will fight tooth and nail to try to prevent Libertarians from getting ballot access. Libertarians draw more from the Republican side than the Democratic side and thus when someone defects to vote Libertarian they are likely hurting the GOP and helping the Democrats. If you want to advance your policies you basically have to join one of the two major parties. If we established ranked choice voting or a Parliamentarian system this might change.

Or because he's a damn German and not a proper Anglo-Saxon!

I mean neither is "3deep5me".

"Women and Negros voting? What're you nuts?" - 100% of the Founding Fathers if they showed up today.

oh shit Washington is back when did this happen?

My mom is such a strong women

I believe the House was originally direct elections but senators were not. Your state legislature selected your senators with the idea being that those in the Senate would be more senior and have already served in government and thus could temper and/or guide the ideas put forth by the younger & popularly elected House.

Communism

Where in the Constitution does it state it was set up as an ethno-state. If that were true, I think it would have been explicitly laid out as such.

"These stupid, swarthy Germans are stealing our jerbs!" -Benjamin Franklin

Everyone knows I am right that Robert Pattinson should dump Kristen Stewart. In a couple of years, he will thank me. Be smart, Robert.

-Donald J. Trump

In all fairness, you're holding the reality that Obama faced from trying to actually make change, to the the campaign promises that Bernie made.

If Bernie won, if he did get in, do you think that the Republican controlled Congress wouldn't have floored him twice as hard? Bernies thing is that he was unyielding in his ideals, but in politics that just means you accomplish nothing because nobody else wants to work with you.

Bernie was a dreamer. It was his biggest weakness, and Reddit just wanted to dream with him.

A face I’m all too familiar with.

Do you see?

Good User!

It isn't just the current administration. It's the entire fucking political machine that has been in use for the past 70 years. Making backroom deals and linings ones pockets isn't a new idea.
