Conversations between Flynn and Kislyak accelerated after the Nov. 8 vote as the two discussed establishing a back channel for communication between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin that could bypass the U.S. national security bureaucracy, which both sides considered hostile to improved relations, four current U.S. officials said.

There's a reason that bureaucracy exists.

The FBI must have so much stuff on the Slob and all his corruption that they need it leaked 3 times a day.

Can you imagine the discussion within the CIA/FBI/NSA?

"Okay, today Reuters gets the call logs. Tomorrow the Post is back up on the cycle, they get the Manafort finances."

Seriously, these leaks are perfectly spaced and fanned across multiple reputable news organisations to deal maximum damage to Trump.

Jesus this should be at the top, or the title of the article. This smacks more of treason than anything else

Edit: Much better

I really can't wait until Trump does his next interview.

"Well, Hillary contacted the Russians 19 times, that's what a lot of people are saying. No one talks about that. Now they say Michael Flynn - and I've spoken with this guy maybe twice in my life, I've got to tell you. They took a few photographs of me with him, the media...they're dishonest, they talk about my advisers contacting the Russians. Anyone who worked with me knows "Trump doesn't use advisers". I don't. They asked me to use them. Even the Putin - you know that Putin called me first, right? So I pick up the phone, I don't know who it is. I called him and he - I have a great relationship with him, by the way, much better than with Obama, who he didn't respect. Didn't respect him. And he told me - he told me, in person - Trump is making the world safer. A lot of people have been saying it. They were babies, you know that, in Syria? Beautiful babies. And I said "hey, we've got to stop this." We fired missiles there. No one had ever seen anything like it. The president of Japan was in the middle of this beautiful chocolate cake - biggest you've ever seen, he said congratulations on your electoral college victory. Everyone says it. They come to the White House, they say "we thought it was impossible for a Republican to win the Electoral College". This is - we're talking about the biggest Electoral College win in history, someone told me the other day. The biggest, I was surprised. They said when you take out the voter fraud it's the biggest."

Because they're lying. The real goal is to trade billions in oil money for relaxed sanctions. But they can't admit to that because that's 1 step beyond the pale even for this admin.

The Seth Rich thing is a genuinely pathetic death rattle for these fuckers. Not just because it's literal, real-life, no-joke fake news which is designed to distract from the recent barrage of devastating Trump-Russia stories by shamelessly exploiting a family's tragedy, but because even if it weren't it would have absolutely no bearing on these stories. Hillary Clinton personally gunned Seth Rich down like a dog in the street . . . therefore Trump can't possibly have colluded with Russia to steal the election? It's entirely nonresponsive to Trump's Stupidgate problem. They can't respond because the evidence is becoming so voluminous and damning, so they're just waving shiny objects at each other.

Its almost like the Wikileaks dumps but with real damning evidence of wrongdoing rather than complete bullshit.

Gee whiz, maybe starting a feud with the intelligence community while you're colluding with Russia is a bad idea?

Edit: This is nuts and implies Trump's direct involvement:

Conversations between Flynn and Kislyak accelerated after the Nov. 8 vote as the two discussed establishing a back channel for communication between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin that could bypass the U.S. national security bureaucracy, which both sides considered hostile to improved relations, four current U.S. officials said.

They are chanting "Seth Rich" as they desperately try to coax some turgidity back to their circlejerk, but it's not like before. Their heart is not in it any more. The nice Russian fellas who really knew how to get a brigade going have stopped coming to their parties.

The day just started.

Does make you wonder what they've got planned for the rest of the day if they're starting this early.

Imagine going back to the 1980s and telling people that the GOP in 2016 would be the party of pro-Russia and that they worked with them to win an election. I would be laughed out of the country. Yet here we are.

Guys. Guys. Just remember.

The undisclosed contacts are not actually the problem

It's clearly the fact that someone leaked they had those contacts that is.

/s

Sigh. My God, when this is all over this embarrassing farce of a presidency will single-handedly resurrect the Time Life Books series.

I can see it already- "Act now, and you can get 'The Trump Presidency- Week 1,' a five-volume set, for only $49.99, with future volumes arriving at your door with the option to cancel, at any time, with no obligation. Operators are standing by."

"Those discussions focused on mending U.S.-Russian economic relations strained by sanctions imposed on Moscow, cooperating in fighting Islamic State in Syria and containing a more assertive China, the sources said."

......why didn't they just wait a few months? Go through proper channels? It seems completely reasonable to have communication with another country on those topics.

addendum: I didn't mean to imply that there was no wrongdoing. I think we're past that. I'm just saying that if you're doing the dirty....why implicate yourself unnecessarily by jumping the gun?

HOLD ON! Wasn't this reported in the Intel Dossier?

IIRC Medvedchuk was the guy that would help them set up this back channel on some island somewhere.

EDIT:

Not in the dossier but a similar story came out as an article in the beginning of April:

The United Arab Emirates arranged a secret meeting in January between Blackwater founder Erik Prince and a Russian close to President Vladimir Putin as part of an apparent effort to establish a back-channel line of communication between Moscow and President-elect Trump, according to US, European and Arab officials.

The meeting took place around Jan. 11, nine days before Trump’s inauguration, in the Seychelles islands in the Indian Ocean, officials said. Though the full agenda remains unclear, the UAE agreed to broker the meeting in part to explore whether Russia could be persuaded to curtail its relationship with Iran, including in Syria, a Trump administration objective that would likely require major concessions to Moscow on US sanctions.

Though Prince had no formal role with the Trump campaign or transition team, he presented himself...

Prince was an avid supporter of Trump who gave $250,000 last year to support the GOP nominee’s campaign, records show. He has ties to people in Trump’s circle, including Stephen K. Bannon, now serving as the president’s chief strategist and senior counselor. Prince’s sister Betsy DeVos serves as education secretary in the Trump administration. And Prince was seen in the Trump transition offices in New York in December.

US officials said the FBI has been scrutinizing the Seychelles meeting as part of a broader probe of Russian interference in the 2016 election and alleged contacts between associates of Putin and Trump. The FBI declined to comment.

The Seychelles encounter, which one official said spanned two days, adds to an expanding web of connections between Russia and Americans with ties to Trump — contacts that the White House has been reluctant to acknowledge or explain until they have been exposed by news organizations.

The Seychelles meeting came after private discussions in New York involving high-ranking representatives of Trump, Moscow and the Emirates.

That's the huge difference. Material that lands at reputable news organizations is handled by educated professionals with training. They sort through the garbage and build up a narrative based on substantive evidence. For Wikileaks dumps all you need is a tinfoil hat

Reportedly (and now reported by mainstream media outlets) the justice department is in possession of a tape Carter Page took to Russia with a quid-pro-quo agreement regarding lifting sanctions in exchange for assistance with Russian hacking.

This story has gotten lost with Trump betraying Israel and the Comey scandal otherwise it'd be a huge piece of news we'd all be talking about.

And now we're all talking about Ryan and the GOP being complicit.

Pretty explosive claims but the Carter Page tape story has legs.

I can't wait to see how T_D spins this one into not being treason.

By their logic, if Seth Rich was killed for leaking the DNC files, then that means Russia didn't hack the DNC, which further means that the "Russia narrative" (what they call it) is a fabrication, and Trump is entirely innocent.

They need Seth Rich to be the source of the DNC leaks, because that, in their mind, exonerates Trump.

I want the Trump-on-Carter Page tape or the pee tape.

We're more certain the Carter Page tape exists, and that's obviously way more important and SHOULD be way more damning.

But I'll settle for either.

Queue the new goalpost moving from:

"There's no evidence of collusion" to "there's no solid proof of collusion."

BTW: this is Reuters. You don't deny Reuters.

That's not including any meetings, including the three admitted meetings with Sessions and Kislyak.

There have been reports of many other phone / email contacts and multiple meetings.

Of course, Erik Prince being Betsy DeVos' brother. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erik_Prince

It's like I'm there

Although Ted Allbeury’s 1981 novel “The Twentieth Day of January” predicted a similar plotline, albeit not this far in the future. From book description on Amazon:

It's 1980 and the Cold War continues to rage. Seemingly out of nowhere, wealthy businessman Logan Powell has become President-elect and is only weeks away from assuming the most powerful position in the world on the twentieth day of January. Across the Atlantic, veteran British intelligence agent James MacKay uncovers shocking evidence that suggests something might be terribly wrong with the election. With the help of a reluctant CIA, MacKay sets out on a dangerous and daring mission to discover if the unthinkable has occurred: is President-elect Powell actually a puppet of the Soviet Union?

Sun isn't even up yet, but apparently investigative journalist are.

Edit: Since this comment is getting a fair bit of attention, consider subscribing to your most viewed news sources, especially if its a local organization. Journalism has taken a financial hit over the last few years so doing such will greatly help those organizations out. Annnnd just a reminder, if you have Amazon Prime, you can get 6 months of WaPo for free and then like $4/mo after.

Edit 3: as /u/Saravat pointed out you can get a free subscription to WaPo if you have a .gov or .edu email address. I'm not sure of the validity or steps to do such though.

TIL "Improved relations" = soft coup

I was just thinking that. They've changed a lot since then, though. I don't think of wikileaks as reputable anymore.

And to deal maximum entertainment value to news readers

Yeah I'll believe it when I see it because that would be a smoking cannon.

Yeah, no more 'Reds Under the Bed' - they're in the GOP instead!

It's been moved since March. The new goal post is gonna be "so what if there's collusion, Russia is our friend, something something deep state, crooked Hillary, remember Seth Rich...librul tears".

I'll bet that for 20% of the population, even if Trump is impeached, they'll just believe it's because of "deep state", nevermind that Trump identifies more with authoritarians like Deuteter, Erdoğan and Putin, and flout the law just like them, or maybe because of that.

To clarify, Trump is on the tape asking them for help.

coax some turgidity back to their circlejerk

Damn, son. That's gold.

I immediately regret unintentionally waking up early.

It depends. Wikileaks published the massive diplomatic cables leak in 2010 through five major newspapers, including the NY Times and the Guardian.

This is... likely it.

Fox news et al is a fucking cancer on the USA.

Nothing was more satisfying than watching Fox dig themselves into a hole by covering the Seth story instead of the Comey memo letter two days ago.

Bought them a day of distraction and now they are facing a potential lawsuit from Seth's family and still had to eat their own words when the Comey memo was handed to them verifying its existence.

Except now they are acting like Monday/Tuesday didn't exist and think they can just go straight to spinning the memo story without looking like fools. And the sad thing is their viewers have the shortest memory span in the world and will forget that they got spoon fed lies for an entire day while the rest of the world was focusing on something real.

They are Putinleaks now

It is reasonable, but the fact that they hid those communications when specifically asked over and over again means those meetings weren't legit like they claim they were. I'd wager some of those convos were picked up under incidental surveillance. Truth will come out soon.

This is the best political drama ever produced. It's all real and all cinematic.

I don't mind people investigating the death if it was suspicious.

But it is funny that they use an unrelated story as a defense against treason.

But it is funny that they use an unrelated story as a defense against treason.

While they distract themselves with shit like Seth Rich, the world will move on with the investigation. Fox news et al is a fucking cancer on the USA. Fuck Murdoch 1000x over.

If true, then isn't this the end of the story? That tape alone is all the evidence you need.

Blackwater founder Erik Prince and a Russian close to President Vladimir Putin

All of a sudden it's clear why it was so important that DeVos be part of the cabinet, despite her lack of qualifications to any of the roles there.

They literally gave her the one that required the fewest qualifications just to get her in there.

I thought I was reading a transcript of an interview that was already given.

Yeah, setting up a backchannel to get around US security so you can talk to the Russians is the kind of thing I'd expect to see in a "soft coup."

Ken burns better be taking notes and filming and collecting archival footage. Can't wait for his documentary set on the whole thing

I'd say she got to choose her spot. Destroying public education has been dear to her heart for decades.

The United Arab Emirates arranged a secret meeting

And the prince of the UAE, who is said to have brokered the meeting, visited the white house this week.

Because Hillary (and any democrat for that matter) is the most sinister, powerful, and incompetent individual ever born.

Moreover, through sheer force of will, God-Emperor Trump overcame every scheme/plot that Hillary and the Main Stream Media put into motion.

If you read Umberto Eco's piece on Ur-Fascism, you'll see that the selfsame sort of contradictory/dissonant cognition is necessary for the fascist/strongman to maintain power. The enemy is at once ineffably treacherous and easily overcome— but only via the strongman's leadership.

Living in Europe makes this fun. Getting up in the morning you get all the juicy overnight details from the USA. Then just after lunch you get the early morning news out of DC. I bet we'll be getting some nice Trump tweets in a bit.

EDIT: Right on time we get the tweets ^ ^

So multiple cases where Trump associates are reported to be working to find a way to set up a SECRET, TREASONOUS form of communication between Trump and Putin. Weird how that cameraman and all his equipment was allowed in the Oval Office...

The people who described the contacts to Reuters said they had seen no evidence of wrongdoing or collusion between the campaign and Russia in the communications reviewed so far.

Lets imagine for a moment that ALL of these conversations were totally innocent and benign, Why lie about them? Why not come out at first, OR EVEN NOW, and say that "yes some of my team spoke with several Russian officials a number of times about the weather" or whatever lie they want to make up.

Remember the last Republican president to do a run-around them? Reagan with Iran-Contra. Who was also a traitor.

That didn't happen.

And if it did, it wasn't that bad.

And if it was, that's not a big deal.

And if it is, that's not my fault.

And if it was, I didn't mean it.

And if I did...

You deserved it.

This time period is going to be absolutely fascinating to look back on. I can't wait to be interviewed by my kids and grandkids about living through the Russian Treason.

I think they're moving from Baileys on their Cornflakes to Absinthe on their bowl of mashed up Valium.

Blackwater. Also, fucking... Blackwater.

Also, China. This is a very disturbing. Is this the malicious China link in the dossier?

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/videos/b/8243e8bc-9144-4e0a-b9b5-194f156f5ee3

Some of them have started saying Seth Richs family have been paid off by the DNC/Hillary or some such shit.. So now some of them are trying to harass his family. It's really disgusting. Also over at T_D they are targeting a reporter who called the story a conspiracy theory and ripped it apart. In the past when they targeted a reporter a Trump supporter sent a reporter a gif through their Twitter specifically made to cause a seizure in people with epilepsy. After they found out it worked and the reporter did have a seizure they fucking celebrated, congratulated the asshole and made jokes about the reporter. Oh and after this piece of shit was arrested they got mad and said it wasn't fair. Fucking assholes!

Let's say that tape alone is enough to take Trump down, it makes you wonder why the investigation is still ongoing and expanding.

My best guess is its because there is a mountain of evidence to unravel and the intelligence community doesn't want to just scoop Trump and his cabinet out of the white house - they want to uncover, expose and prosecute every single traitor they can. + the tape might only be enough to ensure impeachment of narcissus, not by it self cement treason charges.

This is why American lowest common denominator populism (anti-intellectualism) will never work. No one's history is clean enough to withstand a nation full of journalists/angry intellectuals with a vendetta against you.

And then piss off the CIA/FBI/every scientist that works for the government?

You're done donnie, better call that trophy wife of yours and tell her to cancel the movers.

Are you fucking kidding me?

To be fair, the US President being Putin's cockholster would be "improved relations" in a way.

But seriously folks, on what planet does the President need back channel communications with any foreign leader? Not this one.

Whats the Carter Page tape?

Holy shit.

White House staffers must be drinking this morning already.

(Nothing confirmed yet) but if anything with the Rosneft sale fits into any of this puzzle, it could effectively double the net-worth easily of those taking a slice of the pie, Trump included.

We did it...I guess.

Evading bureaucracy to establish secret back channel communication with the person that attacked our democracy is a wrongdoing in and of itself.

Money. Putin wants Syria's ports and gives two shits about ISIS. He'd wouldn't need Trump if ISIS promised Putin unlimited use of them. Plus, the plan is to make it look like "for all Russia's help with ISIS..." we lift all sanctions and look the other way as Crimea stays with Russia.

China containment is to also enrich Russia. Russia needs China become dependent on its oil, as Europe starts needing it less and less.

And backdoor paths can be established to pay Trump and people like Tillerson for their help. Trump doesn't really care about leading, he only cares about pleasing the Russians and getting money.

If it is not an issue to have contacts with the Russians, why are they lying about it?

There's probably a lot of evidence and a lot of people involved. There was talk not long ago of a RICO case against the GOP itself for laundering Russian money.

This is going to get a lot weirder, I guarantee it.

Between this and Erik Prince's efforts in Seychelles, it seems like Trump and Putin had a lot of catching up to do.

Can you imagine Trump being under oath and asked questions all day like Hillary was? He'd probably fake a heart attack to get out of it.

OK that's what I haven't understood about this.... Even if Hillary/DNC did it, what does it have to do with Trump/Russia?

If she was really as powerful as the cornflakes say she is, wouldn't she be president?

Nope, nothing matters.

The bombing run continues.

I regret opening Reddit before bed

Bought them a day of distraction and now they are facing a potential lawsuit from Seth's family and still had to eat their own words when the Comey memo was handed to them verifying its existence.

Really? That's fucking brilliant. I didn't know that on account of having a very very low tolerance for bullshit and therefore unable to watch Fox in case my eyes bleed.

There must be repurcussions for perpetuating lies. The right has been totally and utterly conned my "news" sources like this. It has to be stopped somehow.

It was the bigliest of times, it was the Sad!est of times.

More like a million ton meteor, the impact it'd have.

All I can think about is how even if the president changes, none of this is for the right reasons. We didn't even know about Russia when Trump was a terrible person and candidate.

I wonder which congress critter will be on fox to defend this?

"Folks, it's 18 so its legal, nothing to see here"

Order now and receive the Washington Post and New York Times greatest hits including songs such as "Take me Home Kremlin Road", "Papa's got a brand new bag of rubles", "Sgt. Putin's Lonely Hearts Club Band", "Mike Flynn On the Mic" and much much more!

If you think about it, this further suggests that Pence is implicated. He should have known about at least some of these contacts when he lied and said to the American people that nobody affiliated with the Trump campaign had contracts with Russia.

The truth never sleeps

It's insane that on the same day, we also had reports and video of the Turkish president's bodyguards getting in an all-out brawl with protesters in DC that sent nine people to the hospital, and that barely registered as a headline. With anyone else in the White House, this would have been all over the news cycle for at least a couple days.

That is not the reason. They need slam dunk cases to go after high level admin people, and this kinda stuff takes time and hustle to put together a great case.

Oh that is just a bunch of Cold War locker room talk

You said it yourself. They went through the press with all the infromation and didn't just make everything publicly available on the internet

It was the best of times, it was the worst dumbest of times.

You know, Trump was wrong. I'm really not even close to being sick of all this winning

Well done!

It's difficult to even begin to imagine how dangerous a secret line of communication between Trump and the Kremlin would be. As recent events and leaks have proved, Trump is extremely incompetent in areas of national security, and there is roughly a thousand different ways the Russians could exploit this, both influencing policy and extracting classified info. The fact that Flynn pursued this, knowing the full extent of Trumps personality flaws makes him a traitor.

Felony convictions are coming. Ryan & McConnell can't stop this.

Six of the previously undisclosed contacts described to Reuters were phone calls between Kislyak and Trump advisers, including Flynn, Trump’s first national security adviser, three current and former officials said.

At this point, I get the sense that USIC has had enough. They want Trump to resign ASAP to control the damage. We keep getting more and more of the iceberg below the waterline, and there's no indication as to where the bottom is.

At a minimum, this doomed trip he was supposed to take has to be cancelled. They don't need to bother with a reason, everybody knows.

Sessions

But there's the rub. Back then they did it with credible, trained professionals who were going to make sure they actually had something to report on.

Since being compromised they've just turned into shrieking hawkers.

Trump tried to obstruct the wrong people.

At least this way it gives the late-night hosts plenty of time to write jokes

"Traitors" is the correct term, i believe.

I woke up to pee and stupidly checked my phone.

That's a great point, Trump is a terrible person even without all this Russia stuff.

All the pee tapes, don't settle for just one...

That's the downside of not having any actual principles and just latching on to whoever makes you feel like a special little princess - you paint yourself into corners.

Oh evidence? When we said no contact, it was just a joke!

If I get Trump bringing up R. Kelley to mitigate his defense of the pee tapes (not realizing, it's the whole blackmailing, not paying hookers to pee on a bed part people care about) I will die a happy man.

I'm starting to genuinely believe that we may se Trump face actual charges of treason against the state...and not be pardoned.

He wasn't just a member, he was the deputy director. Second-in-command.
