Trump administration holds pro-coal event at Bonn climate conference: Rather than presenting a strategy for meeting the goals of the Paris climate agreement, the Trump administration’s delegation to the United Nations’ climate conference in Bonn is using the talks to promote the U.S. coal industry.

So they went to a conference where the people despise coal to try and peddle it. They are really stupid.

Why is this dude so obsessed with coal? Does he think we just unlocked the Steam Power tech and he wants to mine it for production?

It's like coal, Putin, and Nazis are the only three things he can't speak negatively about.

Not if their goal is to make America look stupid. Only if they are loyally following the orders of Putin, does this make any kind of sense.

Because Obama promoted cleaner energy and Trump is obsessed with undoing what Obama did but Trump has no way to save coal. He would have an easier time trying to repeal ACA, and that was a huge failure of Trump.

Because there's a lot of people (particularly in Trump voter demographics) that still think coal = jobs. Even though the industry is so automated that the first mine that opened under Trump employed less people than your average super market.

They're going to take out clean coal — meaning they're taking out coal, they're going to clean it.

-some moron who should never be allowed pointy scissors

But Brawndo's got what plants crave. It's got electrolytes.

It’s like they’re performing satire everyday in real life.

Well, he has many failed business ventures. Guess he can add this to the tally.

For real.

Natural gas & fracking, which blew up under Obama, is pushing coal out of business, not regulations.

Also, ironically enough, natural gas & fracking is also probably doing the most to lower our carbon emissions by putting coal out of business, which is why we were able to dictate so much at Paris & get a sweet-heart deal.

The more Trump de-regulates the energy industry & forces through pipelines to piss off hippies, the more it helps the natural gas industry, the more it hurts the coal industry, and the more lobbying influence through jobs & cash the Natural Gas lobyists get, and the poorer the Coal lobby gets.

At the end of the day, Trump is just a whiney bitch who's jealous of the popular black guy. lol It would be even funnier if dumbass coal miners in bum-fuck-hill country weren't putting off government-subsidized re-training because they were stupid enough to believe Trump would "bring the coal back".

But fuck them. Them & Trump deserve each other. Although it's sad only one will have to suffer from black lung.

Saw that on John Oliver today and cringed hard. Great episode against the normalization of the whole mess btw.

Except no one is laughing.

China is phasing out coal. They are currently building 2 dozen nuclear power plants and are the worldwide leader in solar energy. They still consume coal, because they have over a billion people, but despite increasing population and energy consumption their use of coal is decreasing.

Yes, there's still a huge market for coal in China and probably in developing African nations. Trump is trying to run the country like a business. The problem is his history of bankrupting his businesses, leaving creditors unpaid and investors holding the bag while he personally walks away with $billions.

This kind of posturing hurts coal miners. It is only likely to start a backlash against the American coal industry. Right now foreign imports are keeping it on life support, create a backlash and other countries might pull the plug.

Do you have any actual points to bring up?

I agree that we should check the source carefully. But to often, people think that by attacking the source, they've attacked the actual information presented. They haven't. It's one of the most common fallacies in debate.

to be fair, there are still uses for coal in the world. not like it's completely phased the stuff out.

that being said, does anyone really think trump realizes this in any capacity?

Exactly what I would expect.
