To those of you protesting at Verizon stores this week

The contractors on the Death Star were victims but they had to die. I see zero difference between these employees and Imperial scum.

Nah I'm kidding

Listen here terrorist... the Empire provides peace, freedom, justice and security!

I wonder how many people in this thread commenting that the employees are part of the problem are posting from their cell phone on Verizon service. You think employees should quit their well paying job with good health care and benefits because the company is making a decision they personally disagree with? I bet a lot of these people expect the employees to make that life altering choice but can't be bothered to switch service providers because of how inconvenient it would be.

Reading some of these comments made me realize how many people have had the luxury of not having to work retail.

/sub/empiredidnothingwrong

It's better than the Monarchy that took over after it. "Princess" Leia? What the fuck, is this the middle ages? I didn't vote for her.

I don't work retail but I have this thing called empathy. I can't believe some people think that harassing employees will help at all. Lets pretend that you can get all the employees to collectively quit... well, there will always be somebody else in line for the position. You can't argue this generation doesn't have enough employment opportunities and get mad at them because they took any opportunity they could get.

Speaking as a roofer, I can tell you a roofer's personal politics comes into play heavily when choosing jobs.

Boom roasted.

Read some of the other replies to my comment and see how right I am. "Verizon is my only option for reasons x, y, or z." So you can't change your cell phone provider but you expect these people to change their CAREER? Such hypocrisy. Thanks for the support!

Oh, princess eh? Very nice. And how'd you get that, eh? By exploiting the workers. By hanging on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society.

You're wrong. They do have the right to be an ass hole. They shouldn't be ass holes, as that would make them ass holes. They have the right to be ass holes though.

Oh, but if I went 'round sayin' I was the Senate, just because some moistened bint lobbed a lightsaber at me, they'd put me away.

I work in wireless, they're all evil. We know what we signed up for, is what it is. Principles don't pay bills.

Btw can I interest you in a promotional tablet today? :)

Sometimes you gotta sink the whole ship just to get the captain, ya know?

You don't get to vote, this is a monarchy!

Listen, supreme executive power comes from a mandate of the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

I think anyone with Verizon service that honestly cares about net neutrality should pledge to Verizon that you will switch providers if net neutrality dies. You have to hit them where it hurts. Just like they are doing to us. Same with Comcast if you are in the lucky minority that has a valid option.

Being a hypocrite is perfectly fine as long as it favors your narrative. Shits infuriating.

Defending free speech isn't the same thing as defending what is being said.

Can't pay your landlord in conscience, unless they have a surplus of the stuff already. Frankly, the conscience economy is bonkers.

...so you're saying...

SFW

I actually quit my last job because of the corruption and Bullshit. I wasn't making much then, and I make even less now, but my conscience is clear.

This is the comment I was looking for.

You can't expect to wield supreme executive power just because some watery tart threw a light saber at you.

Sometimes the captain sinks his own ship just so you don't get to him

Yeah. Plus their job really sucks. I didn’t work for them but I worked retail for ATT a while ago. I hate the job but it paid the bills better than my alternatives as a college student. They then started screwing me over with pay and I looked into switching to Verizon. I talked to a bunch of people that did the same thing for them and concluded it was much worse. So I kept my place while working towards something better.

If you want Net Neutrality to live, you need to act against them before it dies. You have to quit NOW and tell them their stance on Net Neutrality is why you quit. Then they will need to hear that from 2-5% of their userbase within the next few days.

In my area, Comcast's only competitor is Verizon...

ftfy

There are other places to buy a charger without crossing a picket line. Shame shame shame!

The fuck else would a deathstar be used for

Yeah, my sister runs a Verizon store. What do people expect her to do? Quit her good job that treats her well in protest? She's currently pregnant but wouldn't quit regardless and I wouldn't expect her to. Verizon's stance on net neutrality has nothing to do with employees in the stores.

Protesting in front of the stores might be a reasonable way to get the attention of the handful of people at Verizon who DO impact the NN policies, but be nice to the people in the stores. They're just working a job.

You should get a job at Verizon.

Babyface Bambino?

I said this in another thread,

I'm a retail worker. Stop going to the store retail level of the company. Go to their corporate office. We don't get paid minimum, or just above minimum wage to deal with people screaming at us, or our managers (who just get shit handed down to them from corporate, too).

Haha Oh god pushing tablet sales! I don’t miss it.

Careful empathy is spelled really close to sympathy and we can't be sympathetic to these people sucking Verizon's tit for a job. The fucking nerve of those assholes wanting to work a job. / s

I totally agree with what you're saying about it being hard for people to quit their jobs. But I have a question about people needing to switch service providers in protest. Which phone companies are a good moral choice to switch to from Verizon? Genuine question.

I don't expect them to quit as soon as Verizon is shown as evil. But I don't want to be part of a shitty organization and I have changed jobs before because I was unhappy with company policy.

That being said. You shouldn't be a jerk to anyone.

TBF Luke became a Jedi in a swamp when a moistened mint lobbed his cane at him.

Nobody should be an asshole but the protest necessarily has to make her job harder. I'm not sure what the point of a protest that doesn't inconvenience anyone would be. If the protesters aren't slowing things down and making it harder for the employees to do their jobs then there's zero financial pressure on Verizon to change anything. They don't seem to give a fuck about social pressure or general awareness.

Verizon owners really get the best of both worlds if this doesn't slow down their stores. Their revenue isn't affected but they still get to watch the protests and enjoy everyone's misery.

Strange women laying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

Canceling your Verizon account sends the right sort of message. Convincing everybody you know to do the same sends a message they might hear.

Once I knew that, I had to pass on the job.

Why don't these idiots protest at oh idk, Verizon corporate offices. If you go to Verizon stores and fuck with people you're just an asshole.

Agreed. I will say that when Verizon workers were striking I went in to buy a charger (I don't even have Verizon) and they all started chanting "shame, shame, shame" at me. I was like damn Im on my way to work I just need a fuckin charger

Also, by helping to build a death star, aren't you complicit in its use? Just because they didn't pull the trigger doesn't make them blameless. Same with employees for these companies that are screwing us over.

If you want to protest, but still need the speed and availability of Verizon's wireless network, you could always pay them less by switching an MVNO that uses Verizon's network, but costs less. Personally, I use US Mobile, which just added Verizon as a carrier.

A roofer listens to this...not his wallet.

Sadly no amount of protesting, calling, or emailing will change a thing. The $ is there and that's where the vote will go. We will undoubtedly lose 3-2

The Fish Lady of Manaan, her arm clad in the purest shimmering kelp, held aloft a light saber from the bosom of the water, signifying by divine providence that I, Leia, was to carry this light saber. That is why I am your Princess.

They were also able to drop unemployment on Alderaan to 0%

Until democracy dies with thunderous applause

that /s took me from 100 to 0 so quick i have whiplash

I think it is to scare off customers which makes them lose money. The US is reaching the point where grievances are being so ignored that other channels have to be used. Verizon won't care if there are people outside their offices making noise, the only thing they care about is losing money. It is the same logic as protesting the government by shutting down economic activity (and therefore their tax revenue) by stopping all traffic with thousands of human bodies. It is the only leverage the citizens have.

Can I be a jerk to Pai?

There's a pro net neutrality provider?

T-Mobile are pretty terrible for net-neutrality too though. They created Binge On, where certain video streaming sites would be zero-rated. They also started throttling YouTube, even though they did not agree to be part of this scheme.

Didn't realise net neutrality was a "left" issue. Maybe stop playing into divide and conquer and we'll all get somewhere.

the luxury of not having to work retail.

You mean not everyone gets to make good money working from home diddling code and not having to interact with people face-to-face? Huh.

You are right, but being a dick to a dude because of what their boss says or does is not cool.

Don’t make me kill you.

Which pro net neutrality phone service provider do you want them to switch to?

All I'm saying is before the Empire Tatooine had slavery. After the Empire Tatooine had no more slavery. The tag line here is the Empire hates slavery.

I worked retail for 10 years while I was getting my career off the ground. The skills and patience I learned in retail have been able to be applied to just about any hardships I come across in life. I feel like people who never worked retail are missing out on valuable life skills that are only learned on the job. So they are missing out and we are better people because of it. I could get in much deeper detail but anyone who has worked extensive amounts of retail and is not still a teenager will understand.

Forget protesting. I'm cancelling Verizon.

Yes, Everyone is allowed to be.

You have the right to be a dick to employees. It just makes you a terrible person.

Not just to the employees either. You have a right to be an asshole to anyone.

To be fair, she was only the Princess of Alderaan, she had no governance over any other planet.

The Empire was snatching up entire star systems, there is no way a single governing power could have kept an entire system in check. Plus, the EMPIRE had an EMPEROR. Those people were fucked out of a vote either way. The Empire is no Democracy, they gain a new leader when the old one dies.

Your rights end at the door. Private business doesn't have to let you protest in their store. Don't be idiots. Getting arrested, threatening employees, damaging property...those don't get your message across. Instead it makes you look like a lunatic and easily painted as "anti-fa", or whatever is the hot insult for lefties.

To who? The other giant that also supports gutting NN?

These are not the comments you are looking for.

Naboo royalty is democratically elected.

These comments are always on these posts, and they don't help anything. Stop trying to actively discourage people.

It may be a longshot, but that doesn't make it impossible. Doing absolutely nothing does make it impossible.

True advocates of Net Neutrality use two cans and a string.

Oh god, I'm at work now. Btw I just realized your account has a voucher for a FREE tablet.

Just following orders?

To your new empire?

That's the point.

I make $12/hr. I'm not exactly coming from a place of wealth.

I was rude to some century link employees who came to my door last night. I basically slammed the door in their face mid-sentence after telling them I wasn't interested. I've felt like a complete ass about it since. I've done door-to-door sales and it always feels shitty to get a door shut on you despite putting on a friendly face and your best, upbeat attitude. Sorry century link ladies :(

Take it from me, letting out your frustrations about net neutrality on telecom employees isn't gratifying and just makes every one feel a little worse... without making an bit of difference to the cause.

All I can think about now is that scene in Team America.

Pussies don't like dicks, because pussies get fucked by dicks. But dicks also fuck assholes, assholes who just want to shit on everything.

Is Verizon cellular the same corporate entity as Verizon isp?

What kind of royalty is elected?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elective_monarchy

Bail Organa was a prince and served as senator, a clear example of nepotism and governmental corruption our glorious leader Sheev "Frank" Palpatine sought to eliminate. Sadly, he choose a poor apprentice in Anakin Skywalker, who sought to return the control of the galaxy to a hereditary line rather than through merit.

Come to think of it, Machiavelli states that this exact same thing happened in Rome, which led to its downfall. The residing Caesars used to adopt their most capable leaders into their family and so they would take over the throne up until Commodus took over the empire from his biological father, Marcus Aurelius.

"But I don't like get LTE service at this playground near my house on Sprint, do you expect me to actually sit and watch my kid or something?"

That's pretty much what he said.

I work at Verizon and I have a degree in aerospace engineering. I’ve been trying to get out for more than a year

Or have a nice safety net to fall on if they quit. Easy to say you can quit anytime if you have a trust or wealthy parents. A job search takes a while and even if you have an emergency fund, it may not be enough. I have a few friends with masters degrees in a stem field that have had >6 month searches, the one without a trust worked retail in the meantime, definitely couldn't have quit over company corruption.

Were protesting at Senator McConnell's office as well, and Adam Savage will be joining us.

thier own fault

They knew the risks involved, if they get killed its

Same here. I worked for a Canadian telecom called Bell for a few years and it was the most miserable job I've ever had. They train you to screw over people who aren't educated on how telecom billing cycles work. I legitimately had a coworker brag to me about the fact that he sold a triple (cable, internet, home phone) plus a mobile plan to an old woman with dementia. He was going off about how hilarious it was that she had no idea what she just signed up for. I was super happy when that guy got transferred to a different location.

But.. it comes with the plan!

You're assuming the private contractors have any idea of the intended use of the deathstar.

You should sue!

The very same

Um. Yeah. The guy selling you a phone is not the guy funneling money to politicians. The guy selling you headphones is not the guy using loopholes to store billions in offshore accounts to avoid taxes. I'm sure there is absolutely zero negative aspects to all of the jobs you've had.

Every rain drop is part of the rain.

I have no clue why this is apparently a controversial opinion. Not everyone has the luxury of choosing principle over paycheck.

Needing a paycheck isn't being complicit. I don't agree with everything my employer does but I have a mortgage and kids and shit.

"Collateral. Damage."

That's the justification terrorists use to blow up stuff
