TIL that American women who joined the military in WW1 served actively in the navy and were paid ...

War veterans were treated like war veterans then?

Lol, they were treated like shit. They had to march to Washington to get their promised money. “Bonus army”

This is unremarkable, US military pay scales have never differentiated between sexes.

Not at all. They marched on Washington to demand money that was not yet due, it was like demanding retirement early.

Well they marched 15 years after the war ended, to get money owed from the war not due to be paid for another 10 years. I think waiting 25 years to be paid qualifies as being treated like shit.

Wiki article for those interested. The government ordering the army (with rifles, machine guns, and tanks) to march on citizens... Seems crazy. It was "politically disastrous" for Hoover back then, I wonder what it would have been like if 24/7 news and the internet was around.

Why would you prefer women in there? Is diversity your priority or maximum skill level?

FUCKING NEVERENDING J. EDGAR HOOVER SHITMEMES EVERYWHERE

Any woman who could prove herself to be on par with the best would be picked up by any team worth their salt. Scarlet in Starcraft for example. It's just a fact that there are a lot more guys who are dedicating their lives to competitive gaming than there women.

I remember being 15 too. You'll get over it little buddy.

Still waiting for the VA to sort their benefits?

So brave.

They are. No such rules are in place of course. Thing is for some reason all the teams in the league are male only and that raised several eyebrows. I'd prefer women in there but I doubt this was done intentionally.

Helps with what?

You wouldn't talk that way around your grandmother would you young man?

Well, the link says they never left the US. Are you a war veteran if you don't go to war? Possibly the men who had actually been in danger in WWI could have been somewhat perturbed.

if anyone actually took the time to examine how they determine the "pay gap" and what key variables are left unaccounted for, it would be clear to see that the pay gap is virtually non existent.

Yes, but it'd be surprising assuming the rights and respect women (didn't) have at the time.

The title says "American women who joined the military in WW1 served actively in WW1 and were paid exactly the same as men, and were treated like veterans after the war"

What it means is they were paid equally during the war, but they had to leave service like most mobilized men and volunteers. They were treated respectfully after the war, though.

No, you didn't make anything clear. You just pointed out that it assumed you were male. That says nothing at all about your gender but probably more about yourself than you realize. ;)

What? Ive never worked a place where women were given more vacation days. The women used them for responsibilities, while most of the men used it all at once for a longer vacation.

In fact, almost everyone I know who works two jobs is a woman. I dont know any guys at all that work two jobs, off the top of my head. Yet almost every single mother I know has to work two. And they get paid absolute shit.

The wage gap is a result of different choices, not because pay is different for the same jobs.

Than* I guess you never experienced an English class.

That's not what invading is. We were hosted by the French and fought alongside armies from occupied nations. If you're invited by the sovereign and recognized government to fight on their territory you're not invading anything. You can criticize foreign policy but don't try to rewrite history to fit your views.

2018 pay scales for reference.

Herbert Hoover?

No wage gap, in 1914-1918 women in the navy.

I mean, he isn't wrong. Identify as whatever you wish, but if your chromosomes read XY you are genetically male, and nothing will change that fact. No surgery or pills, nothing that you can get done cosmetically will change your genetics. So, although they phrased it rather crudely, they are correct that chopping off the D doesn't actually make you a woman. So, if you take out the ability to identify as a gender that does not match your genetic code, then Scarlett is a man who dedicated his life to competitive gaming. I have no issue with people who identify as other genders and sexualities, I'll call you whatever you wish, but I do have an issue with people who pretend that getting a sex change actually changes your genetic sex. Scientifically speaking you are now a mutilated human being with a hormonal imbalance. When taking statistics on men vs women, people who are genetically male should fall under the male category and vice versa.
