Bill's a great guy. I know him personally. Great, great, man.
We call him Chairman of the Board. You know-like Sinatra?
Just a great guy.
I'd take him golfing, but he doesn't get around much.
If Bill says it's going to happen-it will. It's a sign.
yeah for everyone's confusion, it's London, Ontario in Canada. we've been voted the second best london in the world for 162 consecutive years.
OP the bloke (in the pic) is called Bill Board.
The billboard isn't having its 80th birthday.
It's a guy named William Board, and his friends have a sense of humor
Is this in London?
Why does it say "THIS Bill Board..." if it's talking about a person?
If you look closely at the photo, you'll notice that there's a headshot of a person who is, presumably, Bill Board.
Why else would they have a picture of a guy on there?
Yeah but all the hottest girls from my high school went to Western and it's apparently known as a big party school, so at least you guys have that going for you?
I think it's a double joke. The guys name is Bill Board so they took out a billboard for Bill Board. But I don't think the SIGN itself is turning 80.
Let Bill have this one, he deserves it
not even surprised, westerns FULL of babes.
but yeah, playboy ranked it #4 in the top 10 party schools in NA. Sooo, we're a pretty big deal.
Fuck it, we'll do it live!
Rich guys with trophy wives who have daughters...those daughters go to Western.
They both make below minimum wage since they work for their father, Roman Board.
and cried itself to sleep
I saw a billboard in Florida with a picture of a wind turbine on it and thought 'oh that's nice an advert for renewables' then got closer and it said 'Wind turbines kill millions of birds every year'
I'm from the UK and the idea of an anti-turbine billboard struck me as very funny. And also sad. You guys are nuts.
My highschool guidance councillor continues to disappoint me.
You could visit Paris, Ontario. Only an hour or less away from London.
This reads like a Trump quote.
That bill board looks 60 at most.
Terrible! Makes me feel like some of these posters thinking this is from England are right.
Hmmm. Should be "its" instead of "it's" in the title.
What other comments do you have to make this thread less fun?
You mean Signatra?
That billboard is older than the universe.
You can say that, but nobody's running off to Arkansas to check.
Not if you live in London, Ontario.
There was a time in Reddit's past where typos like this would doom a post.
...I miss those days.
Lmfao my favorite one was:
"Congratulations to Audi for Winning South Africa Car of the Year 2006!"
"BMW: Winners of World Car of the Year 2006!"
That's awesome! I thought I recognized that corner.
Alex - "I think we should call this new way of advertising an alexboard."
Bill - "I have a better idea."
SOMEONE POST THE BMW/AUDI BILLBOARD THING QUICK!!!!!!
They need to let loose a little, like their cousin Surf.
hello fellow londoner. shit weather today, huh?
we've been voted the second best london in the world for 162 years straight yknow!
"In case you confused it with London, Ontario"
you continue to disappoint them as well.
I know that ads are generally hated and I'm certainly no raving fan either, but I like seeing a good funny or cleverly thought out ad.
Or just good marketing strategies in the design department.
You can learn a lot about life in general, you realize how people are influenced and how you yourself react to stimulation.
One example for simple, but ingenious design, personal theory incoming btw.
Anyone noticed how Coca Cola is changing their design of Coke Zero?
My theory is that they are moving away from all-black cans/bottles to the classic red design that is framed in black to signify better that it's "the real deal" just packaged/made differently.
Compare with B (new Coke Zero).
I didn't speak to anyone of their marketing team, but this seems like the most logical explanation to me.
Edit: after reading an actual article on this that I found through googling a picture of the new cans it seems I'm right: https://www.marketingweek.com/2016/04/19/coca-cola-ditches-coke-zero-for-new-coca-cola-zero-sugar...
I think that might be one of the photoshops that Audi encouraged on their facebook page, as described in the video.
And as for the chess analogy, just because you call "checkmate" doesn't mean the game is over. There are times when you don't see an opponent's possible move and call "checkmate" when it's actually just "check."
His names not really bill clinton, imagine that
Well, Bill spends his day yelling shit no one wants to hear all day. Personally I hate the whole family.
I pass by this every day on my way to work. Richmond at Horton in London Ontario. Funny to see it here!
That's why etiquette is generally to call check, and let the opponent finish with mate. At least around here
sounds like florida IMO. we're crazy
Wow look at all these Eurocentric views. Guys there's countries OUTSIDE of England you know. /s
It's written very much like a Trump speech. Simple, short sentences that avoid long words, make comparative claims as frequently as possible, and use an off-puttingly high amount of pronouns. There's also the statement of opinion as fact and an unshakable rant vibe.
Trump's speeches are predictable and formulaic if you already know his stance on the topic.
If it's 80 years old, wasn't it built in 1937? Way too late for the first World War.
You're right...that was his gramps, Pvt Bill Board
I always wanted to visit London-Canada and Paris-Texas.
George isn't at home.
I go to UW... what's a party?
Bill Board made it through both World Wars and 'Nam....
Most people think he'll make it through WW3 too
Florida is 33% old people, 33% alligators, 33% invasive species, and 1% Disney World.
Believe it or not
the dangling dick of america
I like to tell people that my husband proposed to me in London. Of course, it was London, OHIO, but it was a London.
I have never heard of London, Ontario in my life. Granted, I'm European but the vast majority of people would think of the UK's capital when hearing "London".
Yeah aborted fetuses are ok on billboards but boobs on tv are outrageous. And actually teaching about sex education in school... No way.
Yes, when I first found out it blew my mind as well. I started calling a kid in my 5th grade class Billiam for about a week. It was funny until he smacked my lunch tray onto my shirt.
Everyone knows that the best London is London, Arkansas.
damn there's a third one now? And also, if BMW declared checkmate the game is over.
Why did I read that like Trump was saying it
Pretty sure the 'bloke' in the pic is just one of those funny novelty balloons, this one shaped like a generic '80-year-old man' head.
It's a friendly teasing of the bill board on its birthday, you know, "Ha ha you sure are old! If you were a human you'd probably look something like this old geezer! Bet you're glad you're a bill board!" Et cetera.
It's all in good fun.
This makes London look so bad. Only worse shot would be Dundas and Adelaide facing East. I promise this city is beautiful Reddit.
Will Roman Board call me and ask to go bowling?
"Boys and Girls Club"? Wonder what the criteria for admission are...
So it looks like every other generic medium sized North American city?
I seriously didn't even see the photo until I read your comment and went back to zoom in on the image. My brain must have decided it was part of the balloon background or something the first time around...
Just north of Tampa? See that one all the time. Yeah, it's dumb. But dumb somehow had enough money to advertise the dumb. Or it's from the coal/gas/nuclear energy people, I which case it's just in poor taste.
Lol I go to university of Georgia apparently we're number two behind Tulane right now !
London, Ontario! I drive by this sign daily!
Did I just get tricked into a nearly 4 minute montage of car ads? Well done.
Where could he be?
Believe it or not, it's just me.
Pft, you are suppose to yell checkmate and before the opponent has time to react, you flip the table.
what kind of Texan are you? Do you forget we use FREEDOM UNITS in this country?
His sister Sound is a good listener.
Always nice to see a fellow Londoner on Reddit!
Southern politeness friendo.
Besides, if I'd said 73 degrees, they either wouldn't have a frame of reference for how awesome the weather is, or would've wondered how we're alive down here.
I thought I recognized the street sign lol It was a toss-up between London and Toronto. But Toronto has blue signs. Tis London all the way!
p.s. I really need to go check this sign out...
Wikipedia has some pretty nice shots of London:
They're just glad it keeps them busy enough to avoid visiting their weird Aunt Ouija.
Yeah but that's like going are you trying to tell Reddit that London, England isn't first to come to mind when people say ...London.
Wait, is Bill short for William?
The party is down at the coffee shop man! Now go listen to some indie ! But in all seriousness UW is a great campus !
Billboard is one word.
Shit weather in the real London too. As always.
Because we're talking about the Bill Board.
There are a few quirks.
For one it is the largest city in North America without a freeway running through it. The amount of trees in the city is also insane
I've live in downtown London my entire life and while it is a city of 400,000, it never feels that way. There is always a weird small town vibe to it
It's barely a city. It's a collection of self-contained suburbs that surround a butthole of a downtown area. Can you tell I live in London?
It's, like, in their jeans to be hot, man.
there's a photo of him on the board, it's just hard to see
