“Ace of triangles!”
“I dunno, shall I get the normal pack?”
"What you got?"
"6 Down, A Up"
I don't like the symbols
Wouldn’t just having the actual symbols be minimal enough?
thats the way i like to fuck
When a minimalist design causes you to be confused about what it is, then it is bad design.
"Hey, what is our trump suit?"
"Umm . . . triangles I think? Yes, triangles."
Yeah they're kinda weird, i'd rather have the normal ones but coloured in the same manner
Uppie triangles or downie triangles?
It seems like bad design to allow the "heart" to look kind of like it's a diamond. Could cause someone to make some bad calls.
Yeah, simplicity is no longer good in a design when it actually hinders the products effectiveness.
The two triangles as a heart, and as the spade is killing me. Other than that, these are awesome looking.
I tried using normal suits and I really like
Thought this was /sub/crappydesign.
That's a bit insensitive. It's a down's syndrome suffering triangle, not a downie.
Clogged up, fog alert
Rip the pants and rip the shirt
Edit: Mis-remembered the lyrics.
"Errrr..... which triangle?"
"Oh the uppity one"
i mean you can make the classic designs simpler/more angular, but hearts and spades are not just triangles, and the clubs redesign doesn't really fit the name anymore, not to mention that 3 of the symbols now look very similar. but there are probably a ton of ways to do this better than this pic.
That's better but I wouldn't be afraid just to make a normal heart shape. It wouldn't really ruin the minimalism that much - I feel like the fact that the cards are completely black with a number and a symbol in the corners is minimal enough.
By myself, crying in bed
Hand tired, am I ded?
Minimalism is great and all but the symbols aren't very clear...
Oh. That’s where the heart is. Thank you
They're at least
Both for me. Love the colors and typeface, but it's not like a heart is a wildly complex shape that needed reinventing.
Aka 'poorly designed, impractical garbage.'
I tried making a slightly less minimalistic version;
I think the hearts could do with two triangles on top and the spades with a another smaller triangle overlapping the bottom.
Oh yes, the King of Circles and the Ace of upwards pointing diamond.
THE ONLY CARD I PLAY IS THE ACE OF TRIANGLES. THE ACE OF TRIANGLES.
My bih luh do cocaine ooh
Stem is far better.
Wait, so it’s not at home?

This is a crosspost from /sub/productporn by /u/nightinggirlse. First crosspost. Thought that would automatically show in the title.
I was thinking about something instead.
Sorry for hijacking your comment, I just thought that regular suits would be ok
I believe that is called a triangle, sir.
We are making real Hollywood movie
Good graphic design is about visually communicating a message, in this case it'd be doing a horrible job at conveying what number/symbol it is at a quick/distant glance. That's kind of why I would put it under crappy design, it chose artistic design over accessible function.
Symbols aren't even close at first glance?
Obviously the diamond is, but im sitting here trying to work out how the other three fit into 2 triangles and 3 circles in a triangle.
Would've been just as good if they used an out line of the normal symbols or something.
I would hate using these for anything.
King of 3 circles in a pyramid disagrees
The crazy thing is that the normal playing card symbols are already minimalistic representations of the things they're supposed to be. Though clubs apparently gets its name from an earlier deck that did include an actual club that you would hit someone with. The French made a new deck with some different symbols including clover, but the English kept calling that suit clubs I guess. Still though, the current symbol is a minimalistic representation of a clover.
Now I'm curious about that Tarot interpretation for Ace of Triangles.
Even a line would do for the spade, I can take the triangle for heart but no line or anything sticking out for spade really pissed me off
Clubs is also called Clover, right? From that perspective, it's not that bad.
Nope. The omission of the stem as a distinctive feature of the black colors is a bad choice.
I like it too! That's finally playable.
Upside down heart is not good.
The others are fine.
“I’ve got the ace of butts”
This is too perfect. It's stuck in my head now.
"Six down, A up, that's the way I like to fuck"
It was like they wanted all straight lines...but then said fuck it when they got to the club
The red one. The white one.
Godfuckindamnit MUCH BETTER
I own this deck. Its garbage. Super happy it is part of my collection because of how unique it is, but it handles poorly and is very hard to read.
literally never heard it called clover
In my opinion, that kickstarter here has the perfect minimal symbols for playing cards. Slightly different, instantly recognizable.
Am I the only person that actually would like these?
I mean, the circles for clubs is okay, didn’t take any time to figure that out, but the two triangles are just ridiculous.
Also, that momentary look of confusion? Your opponent has some triangles in her hand. EDIT: "oppobent?"
Jesus Christ I thought I was somehow back in the pump thread. Tf is going on
The whole point of minimalism is to remove the redundant stuff and keep only what is crucial. If the player has to think twice whether they're holding a hearts, diamonds or spades, you're doing it wrong. Clearly they've removed crucial info here.
In Norwegian it's called "Kløver". Directly translated that's clover, but you're right, I've always heard it being called clubs.
Yeah, the normal suits aren’t elaborate. Using the outlines of each standard symbol would probably get the point across just fine.
I tried making a slightly less minimalistic version;
I'm not a graphics designer or anything of that sort so calm your jets if the imperpections trigger you...
I have mixed feelings about this
Much better. I'd argue this is more minimal than the original because it reuses the space we've already allocated in our brains for these symbols.
i got 1 up vote, 1 ufo formation, and 3 downvotes.
'Ace of Triangles' was my favorite song on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
Get on to the design department of whichever cryptic company makes these fuckin things, pronto.
It's in ohio.
THE UPPIE TRIANGLE OR THE DOWNIE TRIANGLE?
Better luck next time.
Not everything looks good as minimalism.
I'll be damned, someone finally got the joke instead of trying to be a grammar nazi :]
From Urban Dictionary:
To slap someone around the face with an erect penis.
I knew 47 probably has a big dick- but 2 miles is pushing it.
It would be brilliant if "infurating" was your way to mildly infuriate people.
Or maybe it was just a typo.
I'm sorry but you're an ignorant fuck if you don't see how a triangle facing up and a triangle facing down being two different symbols might be confusing in a poker game.
You can still have minimalist without being the MOST minimal.
because a line/tail on the triangle isn't minimal
Yeah the whole point of playing card design should be how easy it is to immediately recognise which card you're looking at.
By process of elimination it's not that hard to figure out which is which though. Clubs and diamond is clear and given that the other two are in different colors it's pretty simple.
This is what I imagine Agent 47 from Hitman uses to unwind and play Solitaire after blapping somebody from 2 miles away.
Hands down, best time.
Wait, why do I talk in rhyme?
You are tearing me APART, Lisa !
Yorkshire for hello.
There's a scene in the Disaster Artist where someone asks Tommy (played by James Franco), "why would we build a set to look like an alley when we have a real alley right there?"
And Tommy says "because we are making real Hollywood movie!'
OP's a stand-up person for crediting source. Good job OP!
The spade looks good, but the heart shouldn't have a line down the middle. Instead an indentation would look fine. Kinda like this:
The triangles caused me pause so it somewhat fails the design guideline of "intuitive." And even if you've never seen a deck of cards before and don't understand the 4-suit intent, the similarity between the two symbols would throw some people.
I don't share your greed, the only card I need is
The A Of Triangle up
The A Of Triangle up
I think making a shitty joke is what you are trying to do.
Nope - it should be about conveying meaning with the fewest elements. IMO, this design is tripping over itself to do less to the point where readability is compromised. I don’t think this is good design.
