Smiling sunbathing seal strikes a pose

Draw me like one of your french girls

This quote fits this picture perfectly. I swear it's gonna be the title the next time it's reposted.

all seriousness i'de probably stand back from the seal.

beaced animals with a swarm of people around arent always the friendliest. Still adorable

It only fits perfectly on the surface.

Seals often engage this position before they strike. Contrary to its cute looks, this seal is dangerous to people. They strike surprisingly fast, having famously claimed the lives of thousands over the early America years.

Don't be fooled, wild animals are wild, no matter how adorable.

well, they shared it with the internet, so I feel like it's probably cool. you're very polite, though.

Although this is outside US, I recommend everyone read up on the Marine Mammal Protection Act.. especially if you live in the US and want to be this reckless.......

Sorry to be a downer y'all but wildlife harassment irks tf out of me.

WOW, this is AMAZING!! You are so talented!!!! May I share this with my friend who took the photo??

good thing i wasn't there, because i probably would've tried to snuggle that seal

Thats what the liberal seal media wants you to believe.

I'm not going to lie I think reading a genuinely enthusiastic response on the internet added a whole week to my life. My skin is clearer and I think I can breath a little better. Thank you

Look at the username. Seals did not claim the lives of thousands in early America...

I figured it'd be okay after I clicked on their username and saw all the other amazing drawings IDraw2 shared on reddit without any other comments. Incredible talent <3

During seal pup season, parts of La Jolla or San Diego beach areas are shut down so the seals and their pups can relax without humans all up in their business. Of course they are seals tho so they don't look at signs and say "hey that's where we need to go to be safe!" So a couple of mom-pup pairs were chilling and sleeping in an area that wasn't marked and all these ~tourists~ idiots were about 1-2m away from them. And one lady was walking along the rocks where they lay and lost her balance. She caught her balance but her foot dropped right next to a sleeping pups head. When I saw it happen I almost thought she stepped on it. (It didn't wake I guess.) My buddies and I were livid but didn't want to yell and startle the animals.

Some time after that (~15min) there was this dude who purposefully tried to disturb one of the pups or adults (can't recall) by throwing sand on it. For the photo op. For the kid. Ugh.

We took pics and we also called the number posted on those plaques to alert them. :/ I really wanted to punch all those people. I mean we could have gone down to the beach to make a commotion but that would have further disturbed the seals and caused them undue stress. Sigh. People are dumb.

even non-beaced animals can be dangerous.

all i think seeing that is "Get the fuck away from it, you idiots"

Well to be fair, this seal looks a lot like 'You' the seal in Arcachon Bay, France. ;)

People nearly elected him mascot of the bay. He is a really kind seal not scared of people and swims with the surfers. Well, I'm pretty sure that's not him as eventhough we got a similar landscape for the beach, we don't have a black lighthouse.

Pictures of him here and there

Here he is with a dog : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5piUox_sBWg

His username says he has real facts, I don't know what you mean. Sounds like a trustworthy guy.

Wild SEAL used CHARM! Wild SEAL used BITE!

Motherfucker, I was honestly reading everything he wrote without giving it a second thought lol

EDIT: Added a lol to make me seem less hostile. I is friendly, just like the seal in the pic

Since when do seals strike on land? Do they do that pose in water before they strike? Have they adapted that cute pose to lure humans for a cuddle then attack? It's not that I don't believe you, I just don't believe you.

You are not a downer. This is the first thing I thought of when I saw the picture. Where I live in California, its posted to leave them be and do not disturb them. People are such idiots.

Genuine question. Does nobody stop you from getting that close? I get that people are still going to do it, but is that allowed in Denmark.

Heidi Klum can confirm

Does "beached" really apply to an animal that has no problem getting around on dry land? It has the water right there to jump back into if it wants to get away.

Cute, but those people are way too fucking close to that seal.

Wow. People are fucking retarded.

It totally was, I saw the same seal on the 13th.

NOW LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT SUPER MALE VITALITY

She said that she saw the seal upon "making it to the tippy top of Denmark" sooooo... possibly?

W E T B O Y E

Too late.

One time when I was a kid the whole family went to hawaii vacation. We were chilling on some small beach sunbathing and all of a sudden there's 30 people around us. A fucking monk seal had parked on the beach like 6 feet from us. Idk if it's just the monk seals being used to tourists but those things don't seem to have any fears of crowded beaches lol

i probably would've tried to snuggle blow that seal

FTFY

Your account is why I re-installed RES for tagging.

You're so nice <3

long lost sealblings

It does, actually! The term would be "stranded" for seals but it means generally the same thing. This gray seal seems to be doing okay at the moment, since it is doing a banana pose. Sick or distressed seals will usually be on their bellies with their heads down on the sand. This seal probably just wanted to rest and is acclimated to all the people on this busy beach and could leave if it felt threatened.

This is the most 8th grader Facebook comment I've ever seen on reddit.

Monk seals are protected species (they are very, very endangered).

I didn't even know we were calling him big bear!

It's illegal to approach any resting marine mammal closer than ~45m (150 feet) in the US.

But it's pretty poor practice no matter what the laws happen to be. Habituating potentially dangerous wild animals to that kind of intense human presence is simply a bad idea.

Thanks! Awesome! Just PM me if you do, I'll make sure to give you tips on things to see etc :)

Seal be like, "Tak Ma Pictur"

Looks like he was break dancing and did his final back spin pose.

Thank you, you seem to be too! <3 (I hope to visit Sweden one day - it's on my bucket list!)

just imagine how talented your friend will think you are

WOW!! AMAZING!!

Did this happen in Skagen? Because I might have seen that seal aswell.

FAKE SEAL NEWS

I'm a park interpreter and the first thing I did upon entering this thread was ctrl+F and "too close." Happy to find you folks, have a merry day and enjoy your much better informed lives. Dumbasses in the picture ain't got nothing on you.

The seals we have in NZ go mental if you get within 20m.

Seal means vagina in my language and found this funny

Yes. These people are way too close to this seal.
