Roy Moore vs. "Half your age plus seven" [OC]

Roy Moore vs. "Half your age plus seven" [OC]

plus 7? ohhhh

I strongly believe we have an incomplete data set.

"someone told me it was plus/minus seven, I'm pretty sure that's what it is, yup"

If you're the type to be limber enough to perform the mental gymnastics to convince yourself that a 30-year old man trolling for 16-year olds is consistent with "Christian values," I'd also like to point out that there are two data points on the chart to the right of the red line.

Worth mentioning that in the time between the bulk of accusations and Moore dating his wife, Moore had left the country.

I know it is fun to laugh about, but these people have issues far beyond this.

I received that flyer in my mailbox yesterday. They are not in touch with reality.

Yes there seem to be areas missing data points don’t there?

Most of the things on that flyer would make me want to vote for that guy tbh

Beverly Nelson confuses me. She got younger as Moore got older? Or am I just reading this incorrectly?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ages_of_consent_in_North_America

16 is the most common.

Which country? Thailand?

Don't forget that a huge number of Bannon recruits don't give a shit about Christianity.

Hey all! Data comes from various news sources and can be foound here. Data was visualized in Google Sheets.

Edit: Well it looks like I nailed this post by including an obvious error right off the bat. Moore's 14-year-old accuser Leigh Corfman is mislabeled as Beverly Nelson. Sorry about that!

Edit 2: Also worth noting that during the gap between the bulk of accusations and marrying his wife, Moore was out of the country.

Edit 3: Here is an updated graph with Corfman's name added. For those asking for a version with age of consent included, you can find that here. Corfman is the only victim that was below Alabama's age of consent at the time of a relationship with Moore, and Corfman and Deason were both below the legal drinking age when Moore gave them alcohol.

The number is 18. Including extra arithmetic and assigning it as some extended moral threshold just distracts from the fact that +1<18

He went to Australia for some of it, but that is quite close to that part of the world:

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/dec/03/why-did-roy-moore-escape-to-australia-clues-remai...

You know what they say about Beverly Nelson. I keep gettin' older and she defies the laws of spacetime.

Yikes. That's the kind of visualization that speak volumes.

Interesting that he was married to his wife for a solid 5 years before meeting the standards of a socially acceptable age disparity.

OP said he accidentally mis-labeled the second Beverly Nelson :)

False. Trump never works out.

... except in Alabama, it's 16 ...

What a world we live in where being endorsed by the human rights campaign is seen as a bad thing.

I've had to divide by seven, add two, in order to make Trump work out.

They don't actually give a shit about any of it - they just find it to be a useful tool when some portion happens to align with their mission. This is how the vast majority of "believers" operate: have your personal views, use relevant religious text to elevate your views above criticism, ignore rest of religious text that calls your views into question.

But a 200 year old can not date a 107 year old. It is just wrong.

Seriously, I'm sold.

Australia is a well known jumping off point for child sex tourism in Thailand

I love how "liberal" is written in bold red.

That's a bit like the red scare, but instead of communists/socialists it's liberals

To be fair, I think the rule kind of breaks down at some point. A 37 year old dating a 25 year old isn't that weird.

This is a true. However, it does a pretty good job as a general rule. If you throw out a bunch of numbers, it seems right.

As a 28 year old, if you asked me the youngest age that I would be perfectly OK with, I’d say “eh...probably 21”. And the math checks out here. 28/2+7=21. Not that I would never consider dating a 20 year old, but that’s about the age that I start thinking to myself “hmm...this isn’t weird is it?”

If my 48 year old father were to date somebody younger than him, I would pause if he was dating somebody my age. And what do you know 48/2+7=31. So a 28 year old would seem a bit strange. Again, I wouldn’t be against it, but honestly my first reaction would be “She’s how old?”

And lets be honest, no matter how accepting you are, pretty much everybody would have that same reaction.

Honestly, the only thing negative I may see is the "supports abortion up to birth", which I have no idea if it is true or not. BTW I love the "he's supported by a LGBTQ group, that means he's a bad guy!!!"

'abortions up until birth' wtf people that makes no sense, no one is doing an abortion when a c section is an option..

If you fix it, maybe also include an 18 year-old line. Just to demonstrate more clearly that many of them not only qualify as creepy but also they were minors.

Yeah, it's not super-clear from the map in that article, but many jurisdictions have so-called "Romeo and Juliet" laws by which the age of consent is effectively lower for people close in age to one another (e.g. the age of consent is no less than 16 in any US state, but in many of them 14- or 15-year-olds can legally consent to having sex with other teens).

There are also places with more problematic exceptions, such as making spouses exempt from statutory rape laws. While I don't know for sure if it happens (and I honestly don't want to look it up to confirm it for myself), this creates a situation where parents can effectively sell their children to sexual predators (because underage marriages require parental consent, which can probably be bought in some cases). Theoretically, the child could still report a non-statutory rape if they did not consent to sex with their new spouse, but I don't think it's likely that a child forced into marriage with a sexual predator would fully understand the concept of consent in the first place...

You don't need a "jumping off point" to get to Thailand, you just go to Thailand. Thailand definitely has a sex tourism thing though.

Well... they give a shit about certain parts of it.

It's lower in most first world countries, with restrictions, but still lower. But most countries have the age of consent without restrictions around 16-18.

As a Christian, thank you for understanding the difference. Seriously. These people make the rest of us look bad.

Moore first became interested in her when he was 29 and saw her at a high school dance recital. They later met again eight years later, began dating and married the next year.

You are allowed to bone whoever you want as long as they are old enough to consent.

And, also, that they consent. You might think that is implied, but for some people it's obviously not.

Wow it hits ALL the negative talking points.

Jones pictured with the devil Hillary

scary lies about the 2nd Amendment

scary lies about abortion

implied racist language about sanctuary cities

using the word Liberal as an insulting term

will 'fight Trump', because of course that's what politicians do.

Making it sound like the country is safe by a sliver of R's being in government.

It's all very combative and fear mongering language, but I have no clue who the other candidate is nor why I should vote for him instead.*

*I actually do, but if I was uninformed I wouldn't have any idea.

Furthermore it was not consensual:

"Instead of taking her home, Nelson said Moore pulled his car behind the restaurant and began to attack her.

"Mr. Moore reached over and began groping me and putting his hands on my breasts," Nelson said.

She said she tried to open the car door to leave, but Moore locked it and continued to grab her.

"He began squeezing my neck, attempting to force my head onto his crotch. I continued to struggle," Nelson said. "I thought that he was going to rape me."

She said she began to cry and beg him to stop and that eventually he did relent before telling her not to speak.

"At some point he gave up, and he then looked at me," Nelson said. "He said, 'You're just a child,' and he said, 'I am the district attorney of Etowah County and if you tell anyone about this, no one will ever believe you.'"

I reckon you do if you're a politician with prior.

That's a legal limit, not a social one. And the "rule" is a social observation, not a legal one.

I think a 20 year old dating a 17 year old is not too weird. A 18 year old dating a 16 year old isn't either. So, I'd say the math starts working technically from 14, and remains surprisingly accurate throughout.

A better approximation may be more of a curve than a line though, but it won't be as catchy if you add exponents to the mix.

37/2 = 18.5+7=25.5 so very close to meeting the "rule" anyway...

I met my wife when I was 37. She was 27. We got married 2 years later. I got quite a number of tongue-in-cheek "robbing the cradle" comments...

Because one’s energy is limited. Depleting energy shortens your lifespan.

Thailand has been cracking down on pedos lately. Which... good for Thailand. edit: traveling to Thailand in February and so I googled to make sure I was correct on this. Thanks for getting me on a list lol dear fbi, I'm a nice lady I am not traveling to hurt kids. I am traveling to hurt my liver.

"Half your age plus seven" isn't a rule and doesn't determine societal acceptability. Someone just pulled it out of their ass one day and people ran with it.

Except he was married

I’ve always found this interesting because I grew up in Massachusetts where it’s just plain 16. No age differential laws or anything.

The parent commenter said 16 in Alabama as if it was some sort of “southern conservative oddity”, but MA is as liberal as they come.

Holy shit. I can't believe something so inflammatory would be sent out.

Oh wait. I live in Florida now, I get it. I do believe it. Makes me laugh and rage.

Not from a "Christian values" standpoint though, which was the original comment's central concern.

Here in Canada, a country with a liberal reputation, it is 16. That's a recent change, the age of consent here was 14 until 2008.

The Conservative Party of Canada were the ones to raise it. (They got multipartisan support for it, though.)

Christian values are old as fuck, from the time when old men marrying young girls and forcing them to bear children was super common. He's just bringing us back to our roots.

Another consideration: Moore’s wife was below the line for much of that gap.

Because she is his wife. Check the legend.

Edit: looks they met/dated years before getting married.

That's the point, to them it's the exact same. We're living in bizzaro world man. Right is wrong, black is white, good is evil. This is fucking scary man.

Correct. 16 is the age of consent in Alabama both now and at the time of the accusations... maybe OP could consider both lines being added?

OP: Great idea by the way. Really puts things into perspective!

Honestly, the only thing negative I may see is the "supports abortion up to birth", which I have no idea if it is true or not.

From what I've gleaned, he supports the current legislation which is abortions are legal up to 20 weeks and then are only permitted in extra cases of rape/incest/medical necessity.

The red dot is when he met her. The red line is when they are married to each other.

Reading your comments you seem like a nice person. I was raised Catholic and fell out with the church in my early teens. I thought I knew it all and was convinced I was right and atheism was the truth.

Things are more complicated the older I get, I can no longer say a creator or higher power doesn't exist. The more I learn about our world and our universe the more I realize that anything is possible.

Anyways, just wanted to say I respect your beliefs and I hope you continue to live life the way you feel is right. Have a great week and happy holidays.

Jesus that's creepy

Legally, yes (kind of depending one where you live). Morally/ethically, not really, which is why the "rule" exists. It's not weird for someone who is 16 to date someone who is 15. It is weird for someone who is nearly 45 to date someone who is 18.

I'm going to say the 14 and 15 year old weren't old enough to consent.

Also, this isn't just a question of legality. It's a question of Roy Moore being a creep. A 30 year old man dating 16 and 17 year olds is not acceptable.

Is Kayla Kisor Moore's wife? Did they meet when she was 15? If so, why doesn't the line extend to her, and if not, why is she red?

Except 18 is a legal limit, not a moral limit. There's no magic spell that is broken when a girl turns 18 and suddenly she's a fully emotionally mature adult overnight.

Half your age plus seven is a rule for relationships. You are allowed to bone whoever you want as long as they are old enough to consent.

How did "Beverly Nelson" get younger as Roy got older?

Doesn't it suck how this propaganda is so damn effective, but it looks like it was made by an angsty 20-year-old redneck?

I don't. Plenty of pro-choice people support it. What depends is the context. If a woman's life is at risk and the only way she will survive is by terminating the pregnancy, quite a few people would support that. It's an extremely rare case but he supports it, then that group can freely say that he supports abortion up to that point

That statement is always misleading. They support abortion past 21 weeks if the mother's life is threatened. No medical professional would perform an abortion past that point without a serious potential health risk to the mother or fetus.

Most Conservatives do not know that almost all abortions occur very early on in a pregnancy. Abortions past 12 weeks are extremely rare and past 21 weeks only occurs a few times per year.

"Endorsed by the Human Rights Campaign". When Republicans use human rights as a negative it really hammers home the point they don't give a shit about anyone but themselves.

Alright alright alright....

That somehow makes that even worse.

Except anal. Age of consent for anal is 18.

http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/C-46/section-159.html

In fact, technically, anal is illegal. The exceptions are if the people are in private, and either married and/or are consenting 18+ year olds.

The current Liberal government said they were going to change it to match the age of consent, and I thought they actually had, but a 2016 article about them promising to do it is all I can seem to find.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/justin-trudeau-names-advisor-on-lgbt-issues-1.3851301

Everyone forgets that he has been suspended not just once, but twice for not doing his job when he was a chief justice. Why are these people even entertaining the idea of voting for him? They even got to vote to make him the nominee, and lots of people just glossed over the fact that he was a bad elected official. Not just once, but twice. Now they want to shoot for three.

Think of the Ghouls!

Thank you for your comment. I know I’m the one who believes in a dead man coming back to life but I was really trying to be as reasonable as possible so I appreciate it. Now go and have a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! (Just kidding.... trying to parody those people. Happy holidays to you too!)

That's insane. 37 and 27 are perfectly fine. I will gladly take those jibes for dating a 20 year old, sure.

I thought it was 16 in that state, so legally not a minor to date?

Yes but if he's ~Liberal~ then he's a demon under the control of George Soros. The Republicans didn't gain control of all three branches of government by being honest. The propaganda worked

I am most interested in the fact that someone at that office can see into the future. They said a bunch of different things will or will not happen, not they may or could happen. I never knew that one liberal vote difference on the Supreme Court WILL "forever weaken our second amendment rights to bear arms." They must have the secret formula to knowing what will happen in that hypothetical.

Why is Kayla Kisor a red dot? Just curious not trying to attack the data I'm fully aboard the "Roy Moore has no place in the US Senate train"

It's still dishonest to leave off the circumstances in which he'd support it. Makes it sound like he supports abortion up until birth for any reason.

Was he hanging around the high school dance recital with his cool blonde mustache and pack of cigarettes rolled into the sleeve of his white t-shirt?

Seriously wtf was wrong with this guy lol

Moore first became interested in her when he was 29 and saw her at a high school dance recital

That's just...so creepy.

Typo. The 14 year old is Leigh Corfman.

Which would really misrepresent arguments in favour of legal late term abortions. Late term abortions happen when the child and/or the mother would die, so it isn't really about "protecting the unborn".

I’m pretty sure they believe in trickle down rights, giving them to anyone would be socialism. They just want to be sure that lazy poor people can’t milk the government for all the free speech and trials by peers.

If you don't want people to know you're going to Thailand then you do.

Take a look at the comments on my innocent post. It’s like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

No sane person supports abortion up to birth; that's pure slander.

My friend lives in Alabama due to work and showed me that. I wondered how many people will be swayed by it. Like, is there someone out there who is like, "Oh, he's a child molester, but at least we won't send a LIBERAL to Washington!"

Trump said in debate that HRC supports abortions until 9th month. There is no such thing.

Those are the only two data points that are acceptable, as the women are adults.

That rule is kinda creepy already, and Moore couldn't even reach those low standards. "The South" is a weird and wild place.

I remember reading that he thinks the human body is like a battery or something? Like if you run a lot, your energy depletes and you die fast

hopefully ''fake news'' because this is just dumb

The law matches fairly close to the formula.

Graph

14 is the youngest age this can work, since any less makes the youngest allowed older than you. 20 vs 17 usually covered within State law as Romeo Juliet or reasonable age.

Which is still acceptable from a legal/societal standpoint. It just makes him a scumbag
