Well that's not a hard "no" anyway!
It does seem like a lot to ask for him to do 9 as well, he's been working on this film for two years and will be promoting it up until Christmas, he'd have to go into production on 9 in what? Jan/Feb to make may 2019 release date.
i mean it kind of was... he mentioned that he is excited to be an audience member for whoever directs it. sounds about as 'no' as it can for now.
Well he's right. It wasn't initially in the cards. But plans change. He didn't say no, though he easily could have. If he and JJ did it together that would take some of the burden off of his shoulders. I'm almost certain he'll be involved in this project in some capacity regardless
So you're saying there's a chance?
Still holding out hope for George Lucas to come back and do a proper send off of the Skywalker story, even though the chances of that happening are 3,720 to 1.
I want to see The Last Jedi before I decide whether or not I should be excited for Rian Johnson to direct IX.

The optimist in me sees that as confirmation that he hasn't discussed it with LFL, not that it is a hard no.
I go to work every day all year and I don't get months off at a time! Damn spoiled Hollywood bourgeois types and their cushy schedules!
(This is a joke in case that wasn't obvious.)
