Porn star dies after backlash to controversial tweet

So her controversial statement was that she doesn't work with male porn stars who do "Crossover" work.

Many people don't realize that a lot of gay porn stars aren't actually gay. They juice up with viagra and such before doing gay scenes for pay. It's referred to as Gay-For-Pay. They usually have a female on the sidelines to keep them in the mood in-between scenes so they can perform. It's an industry known thing.

She stated that she didn't like working with guys who have done gay porn because of a safety risk. She believes that there is a greater HIV risk for gay porn stars than the average person.

People can be bitter about her statement but she didn't state anything that was untrue. Gay males, especially gay black males have an absurdly high number of HIV positive individuals.

People can find her opinion hurtful but she was making a decision based upon the fact HIV does run higher in gay communities. She's a porn star who exchanges fluids on a regular basis. She isn't exactly in a position to assume everyone is clean or in good health.

Beyond that point, her body, her choice. She shouldn't be shamed into having sex with people she isn't comfortable having sex with. Even if she is an adult actress. (Graphic Designers, Wedding Planners, Home Renovators, etc.) Could you be forced to contract with someone you were uncomfortable with if you didn't feel the job was worth it? So why should she?

killed herself — not just died

That's completely fucked. She was perfectly within her right, can't believe people can be so offended by facts.

Sure, I totally agree... but if your choice is homophobic, people are going to call you out as a homophobe.

This is what the problem has become. Her statement was clearly devoid of anything a rational person would call "homophobic". Mislead or not, she was making a personal health decision based on what she understood to be facts. And they're not wrong. Your argument is that if she didn't want to have sex with men who performed gay scenes then she's a homophobe is clearly bigoted. If I don't want to have sex with a gay man does that make me a homophobe? If we follow the logic of your argument, that's where we end up: have gay sex or be called a bigot.

I'm as liberal as the next guy, but I'll fight that stupidity til the day I die.

Society got weird.

The worst part is people likely don't feel they did anything wrong. Online bullying puts a screen between you and the other person. There's a physical confrontation that old-school bullies were forced to make back in the day.

Today, you can harass and threaten and demean people while sitting on your toilet. It isn't a conversation, it's a game between you and a random profile picture/username.

Internet culture is getting fucking demented.

It doesn't matter what the fuck you think - fact of the matter is that everyone has bodily autonomy, and she didn't have to do ANYTHING with ANYONE she didnt want to. Also, she didn't HAVE to give a reason for it - she could have just said no, and walked away.

Fact is that gay males are statistically a higher risk for HIV and HIV cannot be detected accurately for the first two weeks or more, and not definitively until 12 weeks - easily missable by an "on the spot" test. The actor might not even know he has contracted it, and could still pass it along. So NO - just because someone tests clean on the spot, doesn't mean they're actually clean - ESPECIALLY if they're an actual gay male and having sex with other men on their own time.

Just because it hurts your wittle feelings, doesn't mean she had anything to apologize for.

Do your research before you talk out your ass.

Does doing crossover porn equate to someone being gay? Not necessarily, it's a lifestyle right? I have heard some guys who are not gay do gay porn....but I couldn't begin to try to figure out the differences between guys who do gay porn, and gay guys who do gay porn as far as stds are concerned; not sure anyone else can either, but here's what I do know: rates of HIV infection among gay men and other men who have sex with men are more than 44 times higher than rates among heterosexual men and more than 40 times higher than women.

Further, rates of syphilis, an STD that can facilitate HIV infection and if left untreated, may lead to sight loss and severe damage to the nervous system, are reported to be more than 46 times higher among gay men than among heterosexual men, and more than 71 times higher than among women.

Now, is it homophobic to acknowledge this data from the Center for Disease control? Are we doing gay men a disservice by hiding behind outrage when these stats are discussed? I am sure someone will let me know shortly, but given the reality of the situation, not to mention reading all of her tweets on the subject, I think I understand the position of August Ames, may she rest in peace.

If she doesn’t want to she doesn’t have to. Bunch of send-righteous assholes trying to pound their agenda into her head.

You are an asshole. That's the first time I called someone on reddit that in my four years here

Sounds like she was dealing with a lot more than just the fallout from a controversial tweet.
