After 762 hours on Erangel - allow me to say... Yay!

Players,
We are excited beyond words that we can finally share the name of our new desert map and tell you a little bit about some of the places you can visit. When we decided to create a new map, we focused on creating an environment that is very different from Erangel. We wanted to go the opposite direction of having lush fields and forests and arrived at the harsh and unforgiving desert of what we can now reveal is Miramar. The unique terrain and dense urban areas of Miramar will create a new Battle Royale experience where the old strategies may no longer work and new tactics are required. We don't want to tell you too much as you will soon be able to experience it all yourself but we did write a few short descriptions of several of the key landmarks and towns. You can find them below, together with the new screenshots.

Map overview

locations & descriptions

Screenshot 1, Screenshot 2, Screenshot 3, Screenshot 4

These aren't the only fun places to visit, of course, but you will have to discover the rest of them on your own. Miramar will be playable during the final test round before PUBG hits version 1.0. When you get your hands on it, you can share your favorite moments, top plays and beautiful vistas from Miramar with us on Twitter and Facebook using #ThisIsBattleRoyale

See you in-game,
The PUBG Development and Community Team

I'd freak out too if my clock said 7:62.

The numbers 762 and 556 are etched onto my brain

I mostly stopped playing the last couple of weeks, but this looks really cool. Together with the 1.0 update, can't wait to jump back in!

Reminder : the Full Gameplay will be shown at The Game Awards 2017. It's this thursday Dec 7 8.30pm et

Whenever I look at the clock and see the time is 7:62, I freak out.

The original map got a bit boring for me due to every town containing mostly the same buildings just in different arrangements. I see some new building models in the photos and really hope this map doesn't end up having that same feel.

I guess the prisoners bailed.

"I gotta send someone from this squadron to Miramar... You two characters, are going to top gun!"

As a new player why the hell do the Russians like that weird two story octagonal tower thing? And why would they put a handrail to the roof with no stairs to it? And why is there an awkward small closet on the second floor? God that building sucks

Why are there hay bales in the courtyard of a prison?

Play the experimental. It's a bit laggy at first, 2mins later it's fine. Performs better than live. I tried it last night EU.

he got anxiety from fresh air

So we'll be playing the new map next week, HYPE!

Pecado will become the new school. Heard it here first

According to their Twitch page, it will be livestreamed on Twitch.

That's exactly why he freaks out.

will it be streamed on twitch?

Man, the comments on the steam forums every time they post anything really reminds me why devs keep communication so minimal with their player base... and I can't see how you could ever blame them.

Doc will be there, hopefully they'll give him a rig and a Kar with a 4 time and let him do work.

This game is the execution of an awesome idea by a young studio with (IIRC) no other large title experience shooter experience (they made TERA in Unreal). Close to 100% of the assets in the game are straight from the Unreal store and imo that's a big reason for the game being unoptimized.

For example: did you know all characters have a high def tongue, teeth, and eyeballs?

I think you should know from now that the game is mostly prebuilt assets they bought on the unreal store

4,8,15,16,23,42... And i didn't even like Lost that much

They should also invite Summit so Doc has someone to kill.

Four time for the two time.

Cheap workforce baling by hand maybe?

Miramar will be playable during the final test round before PUBG hits version 1.0.

So, we'll have 2 starting islands instead of current one (on the right side)? Maybe it will make "lobby" a bit more quiet.

Maybe EU but US is pretty rough performance wise

You've never heard of haybaleball?

As much as people hate on PUBG, the fact that we will be getting more maps this big is astounding. I don't think people understand how much work it takes to put together a map this big even without all the easter eggs and life a map such as GTA V has which with well over 1000 hours in GTA V, I am still discovering stuff.

They have been aiming at a 2017 release for this game, and they look like they intend to still hit that. I'm guessing around the 20th before Christmas.

Uuuuuuuuuuuuuhhh I don't think that's how clocks work

“put their motorcycle skills to the test In the death bowl”

hype

Multiple planes would be amazing at spreading players out.

Is that when it comes out on test servers?

I assumed the new map was going to be built entirely with in-house assets which would bump the professional art quality of the game up....but it looks like maybe not.

Such a great but ugly game!

5.56 and 7.62 ammo types

You realize that plenty of those purchased models and assets are made by artists who are doing, or have done the same thing for other games right?

One of them just posted here the other day.

Just because an artist not directly on their payroll created it doesn't make it shit. How it's used and implemented is another thing entirely.

Does this mean that the next round of test servers are final and that 1.0 is imminent?

Me and my friend played DayZ so much (from about 6pm afternoon to 5-6am everyday), that he would get paranoid around tree lines.

He went the park to play football and got anxiety from the bushes and trees.

To me they are like some sort of elevated pillbox, but with big windows. I dunno.

Be careful, reading comments on Steam causes cancer.

If you drop power grid you have 4 places to ambush from an elevated position!

Just like my buddy Corey who always drops at the Quarry, and we hate him for it.

A couple thoughts and initial impressions:

The map looks like it has more vertical terrain elevation variance than Erangel. No more slowly rolling hills, it's all ridges, craters and rocky outcroppings now.

There are also a LOT of buildings all over this map. Take a look at all the large yellow rectangles that litter the space in between the major hubs. The only real "no man's lands" (wide open and dangerous high traffic areas) seem to be: La Bendita to Impala, Chumacera to Los Leonas, and south of Cruz del Valle.

Pecado Casino is going to be the new School. You can clearly see it as the large yellow box above the 'c' in 'Pecado'.

I'm excited to see if Los Leonas plays out a lot like Yasnaya or something new entirely. Buildings under construction, and "cavernous" commercial buildings make it sound like there will be much larger, more open urban spaces. Maybe more long range fights from varied elevation and less tight packed urban street fights.

Valle del Mar sounds really cool. Two large high priority loot buildings with a large bridge that bisects them and the city itself. I wonder if it will be possible to jump off that bridge onto a rooftop in the city without dying.

There's a lot of talk about textile industry in here. It sounds like many areas will feature some abandoned textile factories. Could make for some cool interior fights depending on the size and wreckage scattered inside.

There are so many places they didn't mention that look interesting: Campo Militar, Water Treatment, the Prison on the south Island that might be the new Military Base. Also there's a cartel mansion at Hacienda del Patron that might become a major hotspot with it's central location. Can't wait for the test server.

Lag and chinese hackers

I heard it from /u/scottishbry first though

Don't think the "heard it here first" claim works quite like that when the developers intentionally made it the "new school".

The background music will be Kenny loggins on repeat

"Miramar will be playable during the final test round before PUBG hits version 1.0."

Do you even just about every video game involving guns ever

FTFY

I mean, it's not as sloppy as it might appear. Plenty of sea walls and the like use a design very similar.

And map artists are not engineers. They probably value a unique look more than being obsessively accurate at all times.

Rainbow Six: Siege has given me the urge to shoot or destroy any security cams I see.

The Xbox version doesn't launch with the map, so the release date has no relevance to the PC testing schedule. There's a lot of misinformation, so I understand the confusion.

Honestly doubt that it comes that late, I think the xbox version will launch with it so they have to test it this week.

There are a couple screenshots that show tall buildings like that but IIRC only the first couple floors have an accessible interior. They also had fire escapes going to the roof so they could have roof access that route.

Were we not supposed to get 10+ story sized buildings with this map? I vaguely recall them saying as much.

As is tradition.

also always be aware of peak post-school hours. 3-6pm is death time for me lag-wise

School's always been RNG.

Ever heard of the 80/20 rule of thumb? 80% of the value comes from 20% of the work and vice versa. When i look at GTA Vs world i see a world that is 100% done. When i look at PUBG i see something well short of 100% but good enough to work and be fun. I mean there are flying barrels and trees, oversized furniture, the placement of things in the world does not really make sense, etc.

With an icy cool consistent frame rate of 14 FPS on a 1080-TI

In a lot of ways, you'd be wrong.

There's a huge amount you can do asset side to optimize performance. There's a ton of wasted resources in pubg because of the stock assets, and probably also plenty of issues/entire lack of decent LOD is related to the stock asset usage from a mishmash of sources.

A lot of people like to contrast PUBG with fortnite performance wise, and a huge part of why fortnite performs so much better is because its all well optimized low poly models that take up very little resources.

I'm sure there's some conflating issues with meh networking and crappy physics but it's not like those are the only problems.

I call it yellow and green bullets.

Somewhere is a joke with a Glock..

Cow prison, bruh.

1.0

I can't wait to land on island rocks to actually find loot there

I imagine the performance is from spaghetti code under the hood rather than the assets used. I bet the new map will have the exact same performance.

unscalable

Is that a challenge?

Random safezones and no vegetation to get some cover, name a more iconic duo

Would you say that the red circles indicate some sort of... Danger... Zone?

Screenshot 2

Are those jetties...grey shipping containers?

People say a lot of words about how this game was made that I don't understand. I didn't know that.

shirtless volleyball intensifies

We call it seven-six and five-five. Subsequently our guns jam.

Rest server sounds so relaxing.

Literally I cannot wait to test out the DEATH BOWL in the Luchador Arena! BRING THE PAIN MOTORCYCLE BROS

RRRRAAAUUULLL

We used "Wizard Towers" and "Mushroom huts"

Miramar

Man, global warming really hasn't done South Florida any favors if Miramar is literally a desert now.

I bet most players are more familiar with spanish pronunciations than russian.

Those that can't view Steam announcements at work also probably can't view Steam-hosted images.

Players, We are excited beyond words that we can finally share the name of our new desert map and tell you a little bit about some of the places you can visit. When we decided to create a new map, we focused on creating an environment that is very different from Erangel. We wanted to go the opposite direction of having lush fields and forests and arrived at the harsh and unforgiving desert of what we can now reveal is Miramar. We don't want to tell you too much as you will soon be able to experience it all yourself but we did write a few short descriptions of several of the key landmarks and towns. You can find them below, together with the new screenshots.

Grey shipping containers don't have cement roofs. They do look like blocks that they just smashed together to make a jettie rather than making a custom model.

Oh right, it is just the things PUBG can do to your brain.

Ohhhh there is a Place called "San Martin" my Name is martin. I know which place i will call whenever its my turn hehehehehe

Or water

My squad calls those "Harry Potter towers" or just "Harry Potter". Yeah they suck.

Gillette!

El Pozo - Players can put their motorcycle skills to the test In the death bowl.

Hopefully this is what I think it is.

El Pozo - Players can put their motorcycle skills to the test In the death bowl.

Hopefully this is what I .

i took a month or so break from pubg and i tried the test servers last night as well and i completely agree. the 1.0 release looks to be shaping up nicely

EDIT: the early match lag is pretty awful, but as "ars" said it clears up after the early game loot phase

Never knew it has a name

The current spawn island is on the map of Erangel, they won't be putting people on that one for the desert map.

"You can be my wing man anytime!"

Be glad your friend is not called Zharki.

That and payday 2
