List of all current skull trick methods.Re-uploaded because my post was deleted yesterday :/
Currently there are 8 methods of skull tricking other players using "mechanics" or bugs to do so. This post will include all of them & another current bug in the wilderness.
Method #1 Aftershock 1-3 Procs hitting BoBs, Skulled Players, Avatars and pretty much anything around them skulling you.
As the video shows aftershock counts as you engaging in combat with other players/familiars/avatars even though you don't want it to. This was brought up previously and might never get fixed.
Edit this has been hotfixed Mod Pi's Tweet Method #2 "Protector" weekly buff on Avatar causes players to skull on your nearby clanmate who holds the Avatar.
As shown, the avatar takes 5.2% of all damage (including typeless) done to nearby clan mates with this buff. So, whenever you go into combat with someone who has a clan mate nearby with their Avatar you will skull even though they attacked you. Since it works in single-way combat this is also the method that has been heavily abused at Lava strykes for the past year.
Method #3 AoE's that were patched on BoBs still skull on Avatar https://i.imgur.com/OnWs6Ll.gifv This can only be done in multi-way combat so, this isn't something people can do at Lavastrykes but, it works wonders at Revs & Chaos elemental. This will also probably never get patched due to how long it took for it to be fixed previously for BoBs, it was a mechanic not an actual bug so idk, just be aware.
Method #4 Aftershock 1-3 procs skulling you on Avatars Now, this doesn't have a video to show evidence but that's because I'm not 100% sure if this will be the case. Since AoEs were patched not to skull you anymore but aftershock wasn't, if they never patch aftershock it's likely that it'll still skull you on Avatars even if they patch the other AoEs on it.
Method #5 Comp cape animation clickbox and other such items This is essentially just utilizing large clickbox animations to skull other players by making them misclick while running away. This isn't so much a bug as it is just a use of game mechanics but either way I'm including it here for those who aren't aware.
Method #6 Fun weapons & Committed perk Using fun weapons combo'd with the committed perk it's easy to trick someone into thinking you engaged in combat with them and skulled (due to the perk) this is not a bug and shouldn't be treated like one either, it's just a use of game mechanics but once again it's included here so that no one screams in the comments to say I'm hiding it.
Method #7 Untested & Unconfirmed methods that used to work that I have no idea still work or not. Edit this has been patched 6 months ago link
You used to be able to skull yourself on your yak using AoEs and Aftershock procs but that was patched. There was another way to skull on your yak and that's to attack it outside of your attack range of w/e weapon you're holding. This worked ~3 months ago and I saw no update of it being patched so it might still work.
This is still unconfirmed if it works or not though Additionally, there is another way to skull players using AoE which is relatively hard to pull off that used to work around the time that AoEs were supposed to be patched.
The victim is attacked by a player, who is then attacked by another player (so victim is in combat with 1, the guy who attacked is in combat with the other) Now, if the victim uses AoEs it will hit the 2nd guy and skull them.
Other bugs in the wilderness that need to get fixed
Single-way combat bug abusing methods to keep other players off you or to save yourself from dying can be seen constantly at Lava strykes, it can also unintentionally happen but it should still be fixed.
Here's the comment chain linked with an explanation of how it's done Mod Shauny said he'd chase it up over a month ago and I haven't seen anything about it so IDK if it's going to be fixed.
Throwing at QA to check and make bugs for me. Thanks for posting.
Make bugs? No no no that's the opposite of their jobs xD
Maybe it's time to just remove skulls so people always know what they are risking and stop having bugs cause them to skull?
I already am, it's not a big deal though considering I get them with or without posting this sort of thing.
They do that so that you inevitably get smited. You can disable that so that it doesn't happen to you anymore. Here's what mine looks like. What you want to have turned off is both Tele-other and Lunar spells if you don't want to be healed anymore or spam teled.
Edit this is in aid settings in case you didn't know. Escape > Game Settings > Aid Settings to get there.
internal talk for "bugging" (logging bugs), which are then turned into jobs in their Jira for fixing.
(Basically, a confirmation process prior to passing to the teams to fix them)
Hype Mod Pi fixed 2 of these this morning, idk if you saw yet. I"m guessing you told him about them?
Thanks, this bug issue has been bugging me but is now resolved
care to explain how I'm a cunt?
A player typically brings 1-3 prayer pots/restores. Experienced pkers will bring 3 (6) prayer flasks of some sort or more though. Players have an abundance of food however, which will cause them to smite themselves because of the heal-other mechanic. Normal prayers using smite instead of soulsplit will hit down ~10% of whatever they hit on you so this will allow them to drain all your prayer pots away until you finally get smited. It only takes 2-3 minutes and most people are panicing so much they don't think about running away.
I think it's really important that you post this and it gets as much attention as possible. Everyone really needs to know that there's always a way to get skulled when you don't mean to
You should've posted on a throwaway. You're bound to start receiving death threats from people who were abusing these.
Pk - cares more about the rest of us than the mods in charge of PvP. Thanks for all the information and warnings!
Wanna see how long ago I knew about this bug? made on the same day I've been sending in bug reports for a long time. The reason I didn't bring up the avatar method for the past ~X years is due to the fact that it would've caused way more harm than good. I realised that since they weren't fixing it from my bug reports there was a good chance they couldn't so I didn't want to expose a bug I had seen literally 0 people use for a good year or more. People only started using it 2 weeks ago and really started spamming it during Boss Drop Log release due to all the fresh new victims in the wild.
I've been complaining about Aftershock skulling you since Invention's release and only made a post about it 1 1/2 months ago, guess that makes me scum right?
