Just did squats for the first time ever andddd I could barely make it down the stairs at the gym on my way out...
is this normal? I can barely make it up and down the stairs at home too. No pain, just tightness. Lots and lots of tightness. I'm dreading what Wednesday is going to feel like.
edit***to make matters worse, I woke up feeling really sick today. Think I might have eaten something funny yesterday, fucking chipotle. I'm having a hard time eating so I expect extreme pain tomorrow.
this is completely normal. you'll get used to it fairly quickly. carry on.
AWWWWW YEEEEAAAAAAAA!!! It's the mother FUCKING /sub/fitness LEG DAY THREAD OF THE MOTHER FUCKIN WEEK!!! Check this shit out, bitches. My legs are so fucking trained they're literally goddamned steam engines. John fucking Henry himself had to lay tracks for my ass to get around on. I work legs so goddamned hard my doctor thought I was injecting Viagra directly into my massive quads. After they were pumped for more than four hours, THE DOC STRAIGHT UP HAD A HEART ATTACK FROM WITNESSING MY MASSIVE PUMP. When I train legs I rent a little vietnamese dude to haul my literally crippled body around in a rickshaw. One time, one time, I had to kill a beaver for gnawing at these tree trunks.
Andddd I'm carrying on. Not literally, I couldn't carry shit right now
blood's definitely not acceptable. op, if you bleed during leg day, stop.
Trust me, you are not the first to experience this.
no worries OP. If it makes you feel any better, I'm always sore after leg day too. The first time I squat 300+ I was feeling like mr. big dick So stoked to get 2x+ body weight saw these very attractive females enter the gym at the bottom of the stairs. Ego at 9001 Started my decent towards these wonderful ladies, sure that they could sense my recent triple century squat And then I fell down the stairs As you start squatting more, make sure you get to know the difference between normal muscle soreness// delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and actual injury. one feels bad. the other feels much more badder. knowing the difference can save you from a lifetime of pain I usually try to work in a tiny bit of cardio after my leg days to help with the pain the next morning. works for me.
Have fun sitting on and getting off the toilet OPie. Welcome to the first step towards making it
Where would it even come from?
Edit: The butt, it would come from your butt
That's why you don't forget your squat plug.
Oh hell yeah it's the bonus "I Train Legs Hard as FUCK" thread of the week.
So check this out, bitches. I train legs, SO GODDAMNED HARD, that when I'm done training legs I have to go to the emergency room. Not for my personal health, but to check on all the bros who fainted 'mirin my absolutely insane gym session. One time, a dude straight up went insane, literally, while watching me bang out over a dozen sets of 20 rep squats. My squats turned his grey matter into scrambled egg, yo.
People think I'm cray, but you know what's really cray, these mothafuckin tear dropz bitches.
He's gonna love trying to sit on a toilet.
Use the handicapped stall you'll love the grab bars.
In 2 days its gonna b a whole lot worse
A Bannister always belays its steps.
TIL hamstrings and glutes aren't in your legs...
Your muscles hurt because you've never used them before.
Banisters are your new BFF.
I call it the timber. You start to squat and lean back a little and you just fall like a tree in the forest.
DOMS stands for Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness. What you need to learn is the difference between, "What a workout, I'm so sore" and "snap crack pop I just broke something" pain.
DOMS is OK, injury pain is something you need to treat carefully.
AAAAAAWWWWWWUPUPUPUPUPUUPWWWWAAAA hell YEAH It's the GodDAMN Mufucckin BONuS "LEG DAY SO HARD" COMMENT ON THE BONUS THREAD ON THE BONUS LEGDAY POST OF THE MUFUCKIN WEEK.
WITNESS THIS. I hit legs so hard this morning it was like the twin towers were reconstructed. Except I was standing on top of them. Because they were my legs. I hit legs so hard today that I may never walk again. BECAUSE NOW I CAN FLY LIKE THE HULK IN THOSE SHITTY HULK MOVIES. JUST JUMPING EVERYWHERE AND SHIT. I HIT LEGS SO HARD TODAY THAT IT WAS LIKE I WENT TO ONE OF THE SERVERAL PACIFIC NORTHWESTERN STATES BECAUSE IT'S A REDWOOD FOREST UP IN HERE.I HIT HARD SO LEG TODAY BRAIN MY TRAINING THAT MELTED BLOWN.
OP, I hope you will eventually come to realize that the things you are saying would be considered bragging by most of us. I'm not saying you're a bragging asscunt, but we all love a good workout and it sounds like you had one to be jealous of.
That being said, well done! Now get you some macro-nutrients and some sleep and you'll be making all kinds of gainz.
:( this sounds horrible
Oh God, no.
If it makes you feel any better, I'm always sore after leg day too. The first time I squat 300+ I was feeling like mr. big dick So stoked to get 2x+ body weight saw these very attractive females enter the gym at the bottom of the stairs. Ego at 9001 Started my decent towards these wonderful ladies, sure that they could sense my recent triple century squat And then I fell down the stairs
More serious note, how do you tell the difference between doms and muscle soreness?
Red pill or blue pill? Take both. More gainz
I SQUAT SO HARD IT GAVE ME STAGE IV COLORECTAL CANCER. IT'S TOO LATE FOR CHEMO. I HAVE TO GO TO MY LAWYER TO COMPLETE MY WILL. I AM ONLY EXPECTED TO LIVE FOR 3-6 MORE MONTHS.
I WILL BE TAKING A LEAVE OF ABSENCE TO SPEND TIME WITH MY FAMILY IN MY FINAL DAYS. IT HAS BEEN A PLEASURE.
one feels bad. the other feels much more badder.
I don't know; I've always kind of liked the soreness. It feels good in a weird way.
Remember to stretch tomorrow frequently. From the way you describe it, you might not even be able to fully extend your legs at first lol. Been there.
It might hurt even more tomorrow. Maybe even more on Wednesday. And it might make you not want to squat. But it's 100% normal and after you squat a few more times, it won't happen anymore.
No he is lift.
The banisters send their regards
DOMS are muscle soreness, just that it doesn't kick you in the face till a day or two after your workout (Hence the "delayed" muscle soreness) What I meant was, you might be a little sore after every workout, which is fine- but sharp, constant pains that restrict movement are something to look out for. As you work out more, you'll get a good baseline for what normal "FUCKYEAH" muscle soreness is. You'll know "FUCKNO" as soon as it hits (which hopefully never does)
What do you mean? Of course you have to use a buttplug while squatting :S
HURTS SO GOOD
I think of it like reentry from space, aim a little then let gravity handle the rest.
Wait until tomorrow, but then wait for the next day again. Day 2 afterward will probably be a day you consider killing yourself.
But dw, the more you squat, the less you will feel soreness the following days.
These days I do gross leg days, and feel very slight pain at best, I could probably squat twice a week if I wanted.
That's why you should wear a plug!
DAE CAUGHT ME SQUATTIN
I once saw a guy try to argue that the upper back was the primary mover in the deadlift.
Unless you're dying, someone who can squat 5x5 @ 375 does not just "miss a few months".
Nor do they come back and start with 95 lb. squats and 135 lb. deadlifts and have "trembling legs".
DAE ATG? NO REALLY DAE?
And now he's dead? Right?
Like someone said earlier - I like to get on the treadmill and do 15-20 minutes of light cardio on an incline - which will help the flow of blood to enhance recovery. After a bit of cardio - go home and foam roll. DOMS become more bearable as the time goes, but I like to keep pushing (more reps/more weight)!
Most of these are probably because people leave too much of a gap between leg days. So you end up dreading it more.
So glad I'm not the only person that suffers from horrible 2 day doms.
Day 1: I'm not as sore as I thought I would be, I'm free! Day 2: Rolling into work in a wheelchair because I can't walk.
That lol of yours made me lol. Fml
I got used to doing 5x5 @ 375 squats, so when i go back after being out for a few months due to moving and etc Did the 5x5 Squats. (95X25) Did 5x5 bench (95X25) Went to deadlift (135X5) During Deadlift my legs were trembling. Training Day: "This is okay, i'll be ready to do this again after tomorrow" Day 2: "This kind of hurts badly. when not lifting anything more then myself when assisted with my arms." Day 3:
The first time I took my buddy to leg day something similar happened. There was one stair separating the entrance of the gym to the parking lot. He went to step down and his leg gave out. He then proceeded to waddle a foot off of the ground like a duck for about 4 steps before he was able to stand up again.
Deadlifts are definitely a leg day exercise.. Dem hams
Did you use a foam roller after your workout? If not, you should. They help so much, it's like giving yourself a full leg massage. If the gym you go to hasn't got some, I suggest buying one, they're 100% worth the money and they don't even cost that much tbh
A Bannister always weighs his reps.
dont forget to masturbate
Amen!! The day right after your like "I'm sore but I'm a warrior!!!" Day 2 my legs are Mcnoodles
Two days after is the worst. Prepare yourself.
You just used muscles that you haven't really worked in a long time. After a couple times you will find that you actually have an extra spring in your step because those muscles are getting stronger. Its a great feeling, stick with it.
No joke, I once almost got a dui after failing a sobriety test on leg day. The cop didn't believe me and repeated the breathalyzer 3 times before he finally let me go. I couldn't balance on one leg or walk a line worth sh!t.
I was 100% sober.
If leg day includes deadlifts, it could be shins. But I don't think deadlifts are a leg day exercise.
EDIT: Well, don't I look like an ass. Let me explain. I was thinking more of a 4 day bodybuilding split, where deadlifts are commonly located on back day, and not leg day. Of course you use your posterior chain and legs for deadlifts, but the main muscle is the lower back. I always thought of it that way, at least.
If you're super sore after leg day you don't train legs enough.
It was a thing. A while ago. Roll with it. Squatting requires a buttplug now.
How does this come up in nearly every thread.
AND SOMETIMES SQUATS DONT FEEL LIKE THEY SHOULD
THAT HURT'S NO GOOD!
Did leg day about a year ago. Had 18 holes scheduled with a buddy 2 days after. Didn't think it'd be too bad. I made it to hole 14 out of the fear of looking like a pussy from stopping playing golf because my thighs felt like they were being strangled by jungle boa constrictors. Took my drive and just straight fell over. Buckled like Bambi trying to walk on ice.
A Bannister always plays Led Zep.
This kills the lifter.
As long as you are consistent. You will never be this sore again. Remember this pain next time you want to skip leg day. Do it until you love it.
It's painful and amazing at the same time
You are going to be your most sore in 2 days. Then for a week or two after if you are really out of shape. It's only that bad in the beginning, once you adapt its loads easier on your body.
You're gonna walk funny for a week, but it's the worst it will ever be. Keep up with it.
God those days were the worst. Having DOMS in your posterior chain was a nightmare.
Probably? Damn. Been doing SS 5x5 for like 7 months and you MUST squat 3 times per week. Please tell me I dont really have to..
Never had a can't wipe issue but I've had the, "shit, now I have to stand up."
Neo: Why do my eyes hurt?
Morpheus: Because you have never used them before.
Neo: Why do my legs hurt?
Morpheus: Because it was leg day.
Edit: The butt, it would come from your butt
Then you may have Ebola.
If you haven't been, keep your stomach tight. My back used to get tired before my legs did, but once I made the adjustment it wasn't a problem
Okay good. Thanks. Lol
Here's my coach's old rule for pain:
If your pain meets 2/3 of these considerations, you have reason to be concerned and should go see a doctor:Pain is only on one side of the body (as opposed to both legs being sore, only one is sore) Pain is at or near a joint Pain lasts for more than 3 days
This is the difference between soreness and a short-term or long-term injury.
Light stretching, light warm-up type exercise, ibuprofen and, most importantly, if it's only DOMS keep exercising those muscles within a few days. Different people have different windows for "resetting" DOMS, but often it's about a week. So, for example, at one point I was only squatting once a week, and got stuck in an endless cycle of DOMS. I switched to twice a week (5/3/1 BBB Really Boring -> 5/3/1 BBB Less boring to be exact) and things got a lot better in a few weeks.
SQUATTIN SO HEAVY THE WEIGHT SCARED MY CALVES DOWN INTO MY KNEE SOCKS PLZ HELP
All kinds of gains.
Enjoy it while it last. You will miss it.
