Blizzard made a little girl very happy today.

Blizzard made a little girl very happy today. So a few months ago I posted a picture my daughter Ava did about Tracer for school.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Overwatch/comments/54txai/my_3rd_graders_teacher_asked_me_why_my_daughter/

Blizzard liked it so much it was reposted to Facebook by Renaud Galand their lead character artist.

They also contacted me to let me know they wanted to send Ava some stuff! So here's Ava (8 years old with a 1420SR) and her little sister Elisabeth (who adores Symetra.)

http://imgur.com/kb6ZxCS

They also sent a customized letter.

I just wanted to say how awesome the folks at Blizzard are to see a young fan and show them how appreciated they are just for loving their game. It's nice to have a game like this with a variety of Heroes of all types. It means a lot to me that I know my girls don't have to look far to find people in Overwatch they can relate to. So many other games out there can look to the example Blizzard sets when it come to making an inclusive game.

Here's Ava for Haloween as the one and only T-Racer!

Disclaimer here: When Ava plays competitive she does so without joining Voice Chat. She also knows not to read chat. Yes I know the game is violent. Getting that Tracer Elf skin was her favorite Christmas present of all time.

whoever wrote that letter sounds like someone i wanna hug

well duh. Winston is extremely huggable

So funny story. She's friends on Overwatch with one of my oldest buddies. (she wanted people on her friends list) So she notices he only plays games against AI. So she turns to me the other day and asks me "Why does Tony only play against the computer? Does he stink?"

Some days I think I might be protecting the other players over voice chat from her.

When she has a higher SR than me.

Please fix her before she starts telling me I stink over voice chat, my fragile ego couldn't take it, especially when she has higher SR than me.

I try to tell her to be generally nice, unfortunately she spent too much time in beta watching me complain about everyone. They grow up into trolls so fast nowadays!

Winston would make a great best friend.

I'll probably answer most of them by saying I'm a larper.

Last event someone was pursuing the spirit of video gaming and had to run a maze while I threw death barrels at him from an elevated platform dressed as a giant gorilla. He grabbed the magic 8-bit hammer hanging from the ceiling and killed me. (this may have created more questions)

excuse me for dropping in

he really would

Yes Ava, the Tracer elf skin is the best

Ho Ho Ho!

that is a really good Tracer cosplay

Why i am reading all of this with winston voice..

So I do have a full body gorilla (scientist) costume

I have several questions

TFW you place lower SR than an 8 year old

I'm trying to convince her to come with PAX East with me this year in it. Hopefully she doesn't chicken out.

Uhm. Okay I guess, I got this big mission coming and... Oh... I get it...

So I do have a full body gorilla (scientist) costume, and I do a good impression... this might go somewhere.

No one with the aim to play McCree places Bronze.

this is awesome! congrats Ava!!!

Hey winston! how's it hanging?

Tell her that Winston pushed the Overwatch button and so the cavalry will be expecting her.

This is the best answer you could have possibly given

We don't deserve the dev team. We are not worthy.

As a new father, i can only hope overwatch is still thriving when the time comes i can play with my own daughter

I knew it was coming and didn't want to spoil it for her, she's already swapped her old school bag for the new one and set out her tracer shirt for tomorrow.

Dashing through King's Row!

In a one-EMP open sleigh!

I loved that letter. How can you not read it in Winston's voice?

I've played with a with a 10 and 13 year old they are so positive and the team always gets behind them it's awesome you let your kids play.

Fuck mcree. If your e's on CD, will you fuck with me?

Tracer is lucky. She's got a totally awesome best friend who saved her from being stuck in time and turned her into a superhero in the process, and a super hot redhead girlfriend.

I think if this trend continues it'll be even better by then.

Oh Winston. Hehe, got your favourite!

This genuinely made my heart grow 3 sizes.

Probably just Zylbrad.

Not scary just complete arseholes. I am 15 but my voice is still kinda squeaky and I get tonnes of voice cracks so when people hear me they uh.. Call me the n-word, tell me to kill myself and the rest. I would agree not to let Children go on voice chat in this current generation of gaming. Sucks that not even 3 years ago most communities were positive but recently people throw around the n-word and kill yourself more than fag was thrown around in 2010.

I still wouldnt risk letting my children go on voice, couse sometimes people are nice and sometimes they can be really scary.

She takes after her father.

Struggles of ESL. It's tough going from Gorilla to English.

A giant gorilla! Just like in those old video games!

So Mei is played by people who get peer pressured by 4 y/o. Starting to make sense.

Just play mccree and soldier bruh

I know right, amazing little details.

well I somehow managed to skip over the "THIS IS WINSTON" part at the start so for me it was surprisingly easy haha

There's typically not much good in the chat for anyone.

Got the skin, swapped it from the Summer skin, thinking I'd just use it for the season.

Heard the line, hasn't been removed since.

We shouldn't encourage little kids to hug gorillas anymore.

For the gorillas' sake of course.

always feel bad after braining Winston with McCree

2 sizes too small.

Little bitch, Probably not.

When Ava plays competitive she does so without joining Voice Chat. She also knows not to read chat.

/u/mong0smash just so you know i think you can actually just turn chat off in the social settings. idk i just find the idea of ignoring the chat really hard haha. i mean is she ignoring all the "hello!"s and everything else in the chat box too?

i don't think there's anything good in the chat for an 8yr old, that's why i thought i'd mention that you can actually just disable match/team chat wholesale

I'd like to think Winston and Tracers voice actors were sitting in a room somewhere typing this letter, saying everything out loud

And I would be on Hanmora.

This kid is adorable.

You're just the biggest pussy in overwatch.

/sub/evenwithcontext

Could do with a little less self-brag there.

Gorilla? He speaks science.

The "dashing through the snow" line gets on my nerves so much, even though I love Tracer.

Is this easy mode??????

My 4 year old watches me play (and often in my lap) all the time. He's obsessed with Mei, "I want the lady! Play the lady!"

I would settle for either let alone both

She just communicates through emotes and the IG notification menu. Saying Hi, saying group up here etc. I'm sure she reads the chat sometimes. But generally I don't see anything positive said in it that couldn't be otherwise communicated through the IG comm system.

My daughter was pretty crushed when the Overwatch twitter didn't acknowledge her fan art, but she was happy that it got a few upvotes here on reddit. Both my kids are massive fans of Overwatch. Aged 10 and 7, BTW.

My favorite Lucio voice line just for his pronunciation

Same in every game, same in every bloody rank. I'm masters and yesterday had some what sounded like 12 year olds making goat noises on the mic the whole game..... You can be 5 years old for all I care as long as you chat nicely and aren't being stupid and annoying!

For the last time, no more bananas!

i prefer Can't stop won't stop!

This SR is Overwatch's equivalent of "ELO Hell." I was placed just at 1,000. My boyfriend has been placed each season 3000-3500. I let him play on my account to try and help me. HE, carries the shit out of games, and can't get me higher than 1,200. He's tried. He doesn't believe that I should be nearly as low as I am. The issue is that it's such a weird mix of smurfs, shitty players, and hackers that every other game you have someone like my boyfriend who can roll an entire bronze team ezpz and whoever has that person instantly wins. From there, the average player in this ranking doesn't even seem to understand that when a Pharah kills 5/6 people on the point, maybe they should actually get on said point. Hell, people sometimes don't even move while they shoot in Bronze. It's awful.

There is nothing I can do about my team, and when there's a hacking Bastion, there's even less I can do. And I know that medals don't always mean much, but there have been times that I've had gold medals for two elims and 2k damage for a whole round of comp, thanks to a mix of being matched against a pre made and our team choosing no tanks or healers and refusing to switch. And yes, times. It has happened more than once.

Oh, and the salt at this level is real. You choose your main and you decide to decline switching? Suddenly you have a Mei who's gonna purposely throw walls in the way to throw your match. Your only choice is to go a character that either isn't that good atm or someone you aren't familiar with unless you get lucky.

It fucking sucks. But I keep playing comp every day in hopes of getting at least a few points of positive SR.

A child could play better than you! And we have proof!

it's heartening to know that for all the racist 14 year old who is probably better than me at overwatch there are some adorable 8 year olds who are probably better than me at Overwatch.

how small was your heart before, just for reference.

Who do you you normally play as? Not trying to be a dick or anything, but there are probably some simple things you could do to help climb a bit. I'm not the greatest either, but maybe I can offer some tips.

Heroes never die.

Least favorite character to play. But favorites character in terms of lore. HE JUST WANTED PEACE YOU DAMNED MOON BASE ANIMALS!

I agree, such a diverse and relatable cast. Idk why I look up to Ana Amari so much when I realistically can't relate to her(reminds me of my own grandma). I bet everyone has that certain special character they love playing and relate to in a special way.

Rookie Mistake.

fucking boy scout, stay out of my way, didn't anyone tell you? capes are gay

Anyone else read the letter in Winston's voice?

Never forget.

To be honest it boggles my mind that anyone places bronze at all. I basically threw my placement matches this season when I came back to the game and got gold.

E: this makes me look like a dickhead, forgot how bad I was at CS when I started and realized that's why i picked up ow fast. Took me like 400 hours to get out of silver 1 lol! Bronze is temporary, scars look good. GLHF!

Imagination is the essence of discovery!

Hanging around like in trees. I think thats the joke... ᶦᶠ ᶰᵒᵗ, ᶫᵉᵗ ᵐᵉ ʲᵒᶦᶰ ʸᵒᵘ ˢᵉᵃʳᶜʰᶦᶰᵍ ᶠᵒʳ ᵗʰᵉ ʲᵒᵏᵉ

Good guy Winston... err Blizzard

Congrats to your daughter!

That's what Bastion is for /s

"not even 3 years ago most communities were positive" this is not true. Gaming communites are more positive now then ever before because of devs taking toxicity more seriously

Couldn't read half of OP's post because a salty fluid is exiting my eyes right now and it makes things harder to see... ;__;

TFW someone at Blizzard takes the time out to write such a heartwarming letter to a young fan, awww. Also TFW you realise the same young fan could also probably kick your butt at the game.

She and her sister look thrilled with their gifts! A really sweet story, thank you for sharing, OP.

I hope she tells Tony to git GUD next time she sees him

When I was 11(15 now) I played a lot of online games. From a few hundred hours over the years practically everyone was friendly but one person really affected me at the age.

However if you give them strong self esteem and teach them about muting haters it will likely be ok

they're too pure for us

/sub/especiallywithcontext

Having a gorilla suit is strange but not unbelievable. The rest is utterly ridiculous.

When the first announced Overwatch and I saw that first cinematic I immediate though it was like one of those 80-90s style cartoons where they had a really wide cast of characters.

Like He-Man, G.I. Joe, Transformers and the like with so many diverse heroes.

Happy with the game but a series would be awesome too.

yeah absolutely fair.

Seeing the girls with their Overwatch merch makes me realize how wondrous Overwatch must be for them. It reminds me of when I was young with video games and my superhero role models. So glad she has Tracer!

Thanks. :)

One of the nicest things that got me playing Overwatch was reading reviews where casual players were saying stuff like "I don't play shooters but Overwatch is a team game", "Even if I can't aim to save my life, I can help my team by following them with a healing beam or even healing them just by existing".

I occasionally invite friends to gaming centers - they're the type to get dizzy with normal FPS like CS or L4D, so it was great that they could play Overwatch on a casual level.

So really, we have a wide variety of skill levels in the game, and that's something we should be proud of as an inclusive game community.

my 4 year old son saw me playing for a few seconds before bed time one night. i got really excited for when i can share it with him. probably not for another 6 years unless i can convince mom.

SR is only earned through competitive play.

He lives on in our hearts....

Have you played competitive mode? You need 10 placement games before you get assigned an SR value.

Otherwise if you do play competitive, maybe its just an issue with MasterOverwatch.com.

Are you 8?

This is adorable, plain and simple

Dont start crying, dont start crying

I'm not crying, you're crying!

The first time I heard it, it was the defending Tracer on first point Anubis dashing in to try to contest. I could not stop laughing.

If you're on PC, Ctrl+Shift+C hides chat

Or you know, a new gamer. Some people don't try their hand at gaming until well into adulthood. Maybe try not to be so judgmental.

What about all the skates he gave to the children?

That feel when you have 25 yo friends with a lower SR than an 8 year old.
