It says right there "Your passcode is required to enable FaceID." So someone power cycled that phone for sure.

It says right there on the screen, Face ID needed the pin to be enabled, just like you need to enter your pin after your restart your iphone to enable Touch ID. Face ID didn't fail, someone just restarted/did not setup the demo iPhone.

That is not going to save this thread from the absolute hurricane irma irrelevant apple hate it is going to generate because people talk about their cell phones like a political party. But you're right.

Yeah I thought it was funny that it didn't work, but then I rewatched the segment and read that. I'm sure there will be tons of people who ignore it and say it was a downright failure. Oh well, it's part of it I suppose.

The passcode had to be entered, it didn't actually fail and he did show the face recognition working later.

Who says he didn't understand what was happening? He wanted to demonstrate FaceID and the quickest way for him to do that was to do exactly what he did -- ditch the first phone and move to the backup.

Yeah but this is Reddit (a default subreddit no less) and Apple. So clearly he didn't understand anything, and also Apple is evil, and also people who buy Apple products are dumb, and also phone A, B, and C did X, Y, and Z a year ago and yada yada yada.

no, am SemSang.

Stuff like this happen all the time, it's not really a huge deal.
