"We don't want to announce the game too early so here we are announcing that we will announce the new Tomb Raider game next year!"
I wonder who's developing the game this time around. Crystal Dynamics are doing that Marvel Avengers game still i believe.
Kind of a boring way to confirm the game exists, haha.
it won't be very long between the official reveal and when you can play
That's great, I much prefer that approach to releasing games. Hopefully Square Enix as a whole will start doing this, so we don't end up with more FFVII Remake situations.
Edit: Actually, this message isn't as boring as it first seems! @SocksyBear on Twitter noticed that if you take the first letter of each sentence, it spells out "Shadow", likely confirming that the game will be called Shadow of the Tomb Raider, as indicated by earlier leaks.
yes. One of the most random leaks ever. Like the guy who spotted AC Black Flag on a plane lol
Didn't some guy in the Montreal subway spot a powerpoint presentation for the potentially next Tomb Raider game last year?
Shadow of the Tomb Raider if I remember correctly
The 2nd game improved everything (more tombs, better stealth, semi open-world and more) and it's probably the best looking game I ever played.
I find this quite classy considering a lot of TR fans would be watching the game show tonight hoping for a reveal.
Yep. Capital letter of each sentence spells out SHADOW.
The first reboot was maybe my favorite game of that era. Never played the last one though... was it as good as the first?
Think it was /v/.
It was literally just a pic through a metro window of a guy on a,laptop reading a letter and you could make out the letterhead said "shadow of the tomb raider" or whatever it was
it was in a neoGAF thread back when it was relevant a long time ago, or was it on /v/? when I get home I could probably find it
I really enjoyed the second one. There were more "tombs" to find. It was very similar to the first. It looks really great, and some of the environmental puzzles are interesting.
The story was pretty terrible/forgettable though.
I'm glad we're getting another one.
Shadow of the tomb raider?
Subjective, but I personally like using the bow more than the guns.
Straight to the point. I like it.
The Montreal metro system is like a hive of game devs after work hours. You can play spot-the-devs by the amount of WB/Ubisoft/Eidos backpacks and chatter about work. I'm surprised leaks don't happen more often, tbh.
It was good, but it was nothing like an Uncharted 1 to 2 amazing progression. I found the 2nd one a lot less memorable, basically just more of the same. But from as much as it sounds like you liked the first reboot, I'd play the 2nd one too.
Shame the story was even worse than the reboot's, with Lara being one of the most boring protagonists I've had the displeasure of playing as. If they can take out Rhianna Pratchett's Lara, replace her with the quippy Lara from previous Crystal D's games, dump the whole Trinity shit plot and focus wholly on archeology, maybe they have a chance at creating a compelling narrative -- maybe.
ROTTR's best writing was hidden in the background lore. The story of the Prophet and his people, them being constantly attacked by Byzantines, Mongols and finally the Soviets was really novel. It was shitty that it was all told through audiologs but at least it's there. If they could just tell that story without having Lara fight Abstergo, that'd be great.
Ah, right. I don't play on consoles, so it's just one long summer of gaming for me.
It's from the 360/ps3 generation, so no.
That's some simpsons shit right here
I'm probably the only one who like the lore and story of Kitej. The journey to get there was spectacular too.
That's a risk considering Thief bombed.
The games are fine. Just needs way more exploring and crazy tombs. Rise of the Tomb Raider was a step in the right direction for me.
someone on the xbox forum pointed out the starting letter of every sentence makes the word shadow
so shadow of the tomb raider makes perfect sense
If the Montreal subway leak is of any validity, Eidos Montreal has a team working on it. If I had to guess, it'd be the Thief 2014 team working on it, as the main team is probably working with Crystal Dynamics on their Avengers project.
Literally all they have to do is take ROTTR gameplay, create similarly or even more interesting setting and write a better story.
As long as the speaker during the presentation isn't randomly complimenting people on their hair and shit, it's gonna be fine. That ruined Thief for me way beyond the actual mediocre state of the game.
The lore was interesting, but the playoff was a letdown. We never really got an explanation of anything, Trinity remains an undefined force, and the final boss was literally a helicopter.
I like the new formula for how it modernised Tomb Raider (the modern combat is sooo much better). I do wish there was more tomb exploration though, just to break up the linear combat sections.
It's a weird world we live in where Assassin's Creed is now doing open-ended ruin exploration better than Tomb Raider.
Its solid, if you liked #1 you'll like #2
