Now that's my definition of a good/happy home! Looks like the beginning of a beautiful friendship. You're very welcome and thank you for the photo, it made me smile.

Just played Salmon Run with a guy who sacrificed himself for the greater good. Godspeed, good sir.

We kept up with the quota round 1 and 2, but in the last 10 seconds of round 3, we were 2 eggs short and had no time to get more, so one of my teammates disconnected so the quota went down and saved the other 3 of us from losing. I appreciate your dedication to your fellow Salmon Runners. Good luck in future Runs, and Godspeed, good sir.

PS: Yes I'm aware they could have just disconnected due to bad internet but I choose to believe they did it on purpose because it makes for a better story.

Losing the will to live.

slowly and steadily i'm losing my will to live anymore. I'm venting out here with you peeps cause I really don't have a friend to share it with. I don't know if my life is actually fucked or is it just my head that's playing the game. I'm 24 with a decent paying job and a girlfriend, whom I don't love and had to be in it because of peer pressure and now I can't break up cause I think I'll hurt her too much. I love someone else, I know you guys must think this love tangent is pretty juvenile but as much as of a practical person I was it has completely changed me. I and that chick are in the worst of terms because of too many complications and it's tearing me apart. I know it's sounding really stupid but there's nothing that's making me happy. Job, girlfriend, friends, family nothing is. I recently got a big appraisal but no wasn't a tad bit happy. I have no idea what to do and these suicidal thoughts are rushing through my mind.

Quit your job, your girlfriend will break up with you automatically. Then start a new life.

I thought Milo was going to have a mock anthem for them. Since he didn't I'll offer what I imagine their anthem would sound like: (Not sure what the song should be called though)

O say can you REEEE, by November's bad plight, What so loudly we praised As the DACAs kept dreaming

Whose wide hips and wild eyes through the perilous heat O'er the back seat we tossed Life the side of a Beef Thing

O say does that red hatted MAGA still rave O'er deporting the dreams and the votes from the grave?

R/BJJ – Technique Speculation: What’s the deal with the DDS guillotine? (ADCC Spoilers)

R/BJJ – Technique Speculation: What’s the deal with the DDS guillotine? (ADCC Spoilers)Shout out to u/Darce_Knight for originally showing me these guillotine clips, and a lot of this post is based on conversations we had about this specific guillotine.

I have some theories as to what’s happening below, but honestly I have no real clue. As more and more comes to light about the DDS leg lock system the crew at Renzo’s has thrown a spanner into the works, with a new technique for us to collectively scratch our heads at. If anyone has any ideas as to what’s happening or why, post it below. I’m sure the community would love to figure this one out!

In case you don’t know what technique were talking about, here’s a few examples…

https://i.imgur.com/I9eRYwO.gif

https://i.imgur.com/561RnQ1.gif

The guillotine appears to be an arm in guillotine, but at further glance only one arm is choking, while the other arm is kinda just hanging there. The choking arm seems to be deep, or using a “power guillotine grip.” Because of this I’ve been calling it the “power 5 finger.”

Anyways here’s some ideas I’ve been brainstorming as to the how/why/what

Choking Arm Grip

First off, to me it looks like the DDS guys use a deep grip with the choking arm. Often it appears to be resting on the opponents shoulder, perhaps using this as a base point or fulcrum to provide additional pressure when choking. See this gif of Gordon Ryan for an example…

https://i.imgur.com/jmiWlXD.gif

It also appears in many of the examples we have, that the DDS will move towards the trapped arm with their bodies before attempting to finish. If I had to guess, this is to add more of their upper chests over the back of the head to assist in forcing the opponents head down to push it into the choke. In the specific example above it looks like Gordon also uses the non choking arm to push down on the opponents head before switching to the arm over grip. This could be to prevent posture, deepen the power grip, or start choking to bait a hand fight. It could also be all of the above.

Free Arm Grip

As far as the non choking arm grip, there's a couple of variations. Sometimes this is seen to be almost reinforcing the choking arm, similar to a standard arm in finish...

https://i.imgur.com/R1e2JEO.gif

https://i.imgur.com/JlbpmBQ.gif

Sometimes it just seems to be hanging out...

https://i.imgur.com/sAPTxbR.gif

This could be to intercept a potential grip fight. Or it could be used more to manipulate the opponents arm on that side.

Back Take Potential

Something else that I considered is the possibility of the back take if the guillotine ends up going to the guard. The Gordon Ryan finish at EBI is the only clip we have of the choke being finished from the guard. Note that he is finishing from half guard, and the guillotine grip could potential transition to an arm drag if the opponent freed their head and postured up...

https://i.imgur.com/I9eRYwO.gif

Also I considered the ability to transfer into a shoulder drag style movement if the choke was to fail...

https://i.imgur.com/vdueECb.gif

A potential clue is this clip of Gordon and Shields rolling. The footage is chopped going from a guillotine attempt, to Gordon being on Shields back. While it is impossible to tell if it is the same sequence, their clothes at least appear to be the same, hinting that it is at least the same roll...

The "Power 5 Finger" Guillotine and the Marcelotine - DDS and Diaz Connection

Another grappler who uses this "power 5 finger" guillotine is Nate Diaz. Although Diaz uses the choke primarily as an entry into the high elbow. However we have a lot more footage of Diaz using the choke. Interestingly, Jake Shields has started training at Renzo's as the choke has become more popular amongst the DDS team. IDK if there is a connection, but it is worth pointing out imo.

If you watch the DDS guys especially Tonon, they seem to really emphasize getting the "high elbow" side leg over the opponents shoulder.

https://imgur.com/rl8v2Y9

For example, it seems to be the first thing Tonon will look for in most of his guillotines

https://imgur.com/4Ouzmvh

IMO this is a waaaay better offensive grip for the high elbow, and makes it much tougher to defend. The problem is, unless you really try set this up straight away from the sprawl, you can get in spots where it can be difficult to get your leg in front.

The solution? Get the power grip, bait a handfight that you won’t lose and step over…

https://imgur.com/BMVGezq

Notice how in these they still emphasize stepping over with the high elbow side leg? This also works into moving away from the choking arm to add pressure to the choke and looking to mount too.

Think about this “Power 5” grip like a rear naked choke. If the RNC is locked in, it kinda makes sense to handfight the non choking arm right. But what if the RNC isn’t locked? It makes more sense to handfight the one arm under your neck, and pry it off because it’s not connected to anything. But with the power 5 you do actually have the hole closed off because your head and shoulder acts as a grip to keep the head trapped, so your grip is actually pretty safe.

This makes people handfight on that side. This allows you to transfer the leg over, as well as switch grips to the high elbow without the opponent's arm on that side bothering you.

https://imgur.com/zWY4uV1

Also note with a lot of these Diaz chokes how often the opponent is tapping BEFORE or just as he transitions. The choke is solid on it’s own, but it is a really solid way to get to a dominant high elbow AS you are already choking and attacking. Notice how Diaz switches as soon as his legs are free to get to the leg over position.

https://imgur.com/1jHy9y1

As for the Rafa style trap. Two things I noticed. Firstly, it helps your grip by pushing their arm down away from the wrist hand and closer to the elbow (better leverage & harder to grip) on top of that, where their arm is, the only sensible thing to do is to grip fight. Secondly It pushes the arm down making the step over and high elbow transition easier.

https://imgur.com/FX08mLE

It also looks like he might be pulling the opponent's elbow in with his other leg too. This could maybe add leverage to the choke by pulling their shoulder into the choke which you use as counter pressure to attack with. Kinda similar to rolling the shoulder in for the darce, except here you use it to push off of, with the high elbow grip.

https://imgur.com/ZHP7C45

In MMA where you’re gonna get chokes off takedowns a lot more, having the free arm to post out or switch to attacking the head on a different side than you anticipated is good too…

https://imgur.com/AKybnSx

Diaz also likes to use the triangle and attacks it off the guillotine too (Pellegrino) so I’m guessing he really likes the leg over position to create the one arm in one arm out position too. Off course you can also use the standard power guillotine too if you are forced to play head to head.

https://imgur.com/Pu2KqLf

Prime Rosenthal “if he dies, he dies” reffing there too haha!

What do you think? What's missing?

Overall though, i'm still really unsure and I feel like i'm missing a lot. Any guillotine fiends or people that have trained at Renzo's or an affiliate care to chime in? Anyone got any ideas?

I appreciate the detail you went into in this thread. But to me it just appears they are just good at snatching up arm in guillotines. I don't see anything here that's revolutionary or something that isn't taught. It's standard arm in guillotine attacks

Had a seminar with Oliver Taza, where he showed the arm in guillotine from a basic setup, when somebody uses underhook escape from side control.

What they do is put their elbow of the squeezing arm inside their knee and then help finishing by squeezing the legs together.

Arm in guillotines are one arm chokes, you use your arm on one side and your chest/ribs on the other to stop their head from getting away (pretty much exactly how a x choke works - one choking one blocking). And like with any choke, the deeper it is, the better. It's just an arm in guillotine, it doesn't need a clever name.

I'm honestly not seeing the mystery.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoIo3D2uHu4#t=11m48s

If you watch Gordon Ryan's match at the last EBI he did he had a match where he did the same one armed arm-in guillotine that Nate Diaz loves to use. There's a good amount of footage of Tonon doing it in sparring, and I'm not sure if that's the grip that Gordon had on Keenan on the finish, but it's absolutely something unique that they are doing. I'm sure there are various finishes but at some point there is a deep V with the choking arm and then the free arm wraps their arm.

EDIT: You can see the grip well at 11:48 -

Nate Diaz using it (a couple of many):

Keep on going guys, never ever give in to the thing we dread most. It's just not worth it with what it comes.

Day in and day out many of us fail to beat this addiction once and for all. But someday just someday we will all be with the infinity number and acting as if this all never happened. But it comes through hard work and dedication, always getting back up when we're on the low and never ever giving up. I'm a young guy and I'm thankful to have a community like you guys. I too have big dreams someday but must work very hard towards them.

All the best to you bros, just know that the reward of being yourself is far more greater then anything you could ever wish for in the world we live in, and who doesn't want their future self thanking you for all that you've done.

Side note if you start today, you'll be at 98 days going into 2018. Just imagine that.

ADIOSSSSS!

Edit: Sorry if you were on computer, just saw that I had indented my paragraphs and it was a pain reading it on computer.

Good luck bro

fuck man. this year can not go unaccounted.

Buckle up, bros. We've got a world to reclaim.

Wish you much luck ! :)
